Lots to do particularly if you want to scuba or snorkel.
Lots to do particularly if you want to scuba or snorkel. In my opinion it's more an adult destination as lots of bars and people openly smoke cannabis. Lots of mopeds racing around small streets. The food is great and value for money. If you enjoy travelling, take a boat taxi to other beaches or book a tour. There is plenty to do and see.

Travelling to Samui I was really disappointed with the snorkelling, luckily I had spare time at the end of the holiday where I hadn't booked & we took a 3 night trip to Koh Tao. It had the best beaches in Thailand in my opinion. Sairee beach had great restauarants, the Thai people were amazing (although this is the same wherever you go in Thailand). Getting around you really need a moped, which might put some people off.

A few days is nice here as it is a small island.
A few days is nice here as it is a small island. Great for diving and snorkling. However:
- The coral is dead unfortunately, the few turtles are harrassed by tourists and are not treated nicely, Shark bay is owned by a resort and they profit from the tourism to the sharks. I advice to stay away from this part.
- The island is not genuine Thai culture experience anymore but overrun by tourists unfortunately (March 2024). In the town there is not a spot without a scooter and party places. Weed places and stores everywhere and Western food. I would not recommend the town to people looking for culture, for genuine Thai experiences (except some restaurants) or for a quiet holiday if you stay close to town. Go look for accomodations far from the town centre and you will have an amazing time though (Jungle, freedom beach etc.)
- Scooters are for experienced people only, we saw too many crashes/falls and people with severe injuries. It is really not worth it to rent a scooter if you do not know how to drive uphill/mountains and on the left side. If you go for it, wear at least a helmet and your children too. So many people with babies? and little kids? without a helmet, like are you really risking that?
- Most of it you can just walk, walk or take a taxi if you are unknown with scooters

Our villa with own pool was the best.
Our villa with own pool was the best. If you dive and you are in your 20s you enjoy the place a lot. If you are older, it’s quickly seen.
Sairee beach area is not my place . Other parts of the island I did not see; difficult to go around.
I missed vegetables to eat on this island but fresh fruit shakes, I loved. Local food was cheap but delicious especially seafood.

Koh Tao isn't the biggest of islands, you can hire scooters but some of the island is different to access via scooter.
We stayed in Mae Haad and there are plenty of restaurants/bars to choose from some of them being beachfront.

The roads to many places are insanely steep.
The roads to many places are insanely steep. Two people on a rental motorbike could not make it up some hills. We are not heavy people and a couple times one had to get off and walk. Alternatively if you think your going to taxi everywhere bring a large stack of cash. 300-400 THB each way, everywhere you go and that''s an 8 min drive. Islands pretty small. Best to have a rental motorbike for each person but even that was to scary for my partner. Also this island is really all about diving and partying. Excellent if that's you jam.
Probably one of the best accommodation I have ever had in Thailand.
Super nice and clean, super comfortable bed, super friendly staff.
Location far enough to be quiete, but near enough to the bars in sairee beach for an easy 10 min walk along the beach and walking street.
Scooter and snorkel rental for cheap money right next to the hotel.
Laundry service offered.
Free water every day.
Towels included.
Several dive schools in walking distance.
I had an awsome stay. Thanks Jen 😊
Full Recommendation 100% 🫶👍
Firstly, I’d like to say how nice and helpful the staff were. They picked us up from the pier and when leaving arranged a car for us, whenever we had problems with our scooter they helped us and they were extremely nice throughout our stay!
The room was great, bigger than what we originally had in mind, and very comfortable. just 3 minutes by scooter from Sairee beach, and we got it cleaned every day while we were gone exploring the island. We will definitely come back here again 😌 best stay I ever had.
It’s well positioned in between the pier and Sairee Beach, and arranged around two pools that lead down to ocean. No beach, but easy access into the ocean and great snorkelling. I saw three octopuses right in front of the hotel (night snorkel). There’s no restaurant or bar in the hotel, but so many nearby that it doesn’t matter. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bed was super comfy and the room large. I had an upstairs room and the balcony is large and affords a great view.
Great location! Before arriving I was a little worried that it was too far away from Sairee Beach/town area but, walking along the beach from accommodation, there was a nice spread of bars, restaurants (& great massage place) leading up to the more lively area. Definitely enjoyed being that little bit out. We did rent a motorbike to get around other parts of the island during the day. Room was spacious and clean with a great balcony.
very clean, quiet and well kept hotel. The room was well equipped, beds were comfy and we were able to have a good nights sleep. the location was ideal - a few minutes walk from the main bars/restaurants on Sairee beach, but far enough away to not hear any loud music. We were doing a diving course, and this was the perfect place to stay.
The hosts were also very welcoming and helpful with any questions we had.
The location is simply amazing. In the middle between Mae Haad Pier and Sairee beach, so almost everything on the west side of the island is within walking distance.
The room was comfy and the best thing is the view. Sitting in front of the room, you have a clear view over the ocean that is just below. You can enjoy beautiful sunsets.
The staff is lovely, nice and very helpful.
Location was great, central but quiet and in front of a great beach!! Room was cleaned daily and we were given two bottles of water and coffee everyday. Balcony was the best with an amazing view. Bed was super comfortable. All around great stay - we kept saying to ourselves that we got so lucky because it’s the best hotel for a reasonable price. We would stay there again.
Fresh and spacious rooms in cool and unique design. Staff was very kind and helpful with everything.
Hotel is located on best possible site right on Sairee Beach with great restaurants everywhere.
Easy to rent a bike and get around the small island to visit the most beautiful places we have ever been to.
We extended our stay with one night due to all things above!
Best View from Koh Tao, situated directly across from Nang Yuan Island. You can kayak from the hotel to the sandy beach daily, immersing yourself in the tranquil surroundings. The hotel provides spacious rooms (though, in my opinion, they could use a bit more furniture to enhance cosiness) and an infinity pool, both of which offer breathtaking views of the sunset.
The hotel is super clean and tidy, staff is very sweet and helpful. The room was equipped with anything, including umbrellas, a beach bag, and two sarong (I ended up purchasing one!). I also used the laundry service which was great and super fast. The pool is beautiful and relaxing although not sure how the bar service worked.
This place feels like home! Absolutely the nicest hotel in Koh Tao for the money. The people who work here couldn’t be sweeter or more helpful and the restaurant downstairs has delicious food. Do yourself a favor and just book here! Close to everything good near Sairee beach, including 7 eleven ;) I can’t wait to go back.
Amazing views from the hotel, which is a nice short distance from the busy area of Sairee Beach. Lovely pool, and one of the few places where it doesn’t feel like they’ve cramped as much accommodation as they can into small spaces. One of the best breakfasts of our month in SE Asia.
The host was super friendly, always smiling and nice. He made our stay perfect. The accommodation is very nice, rooms are clean and really good, nice location next to the beach and close to a lot of diving businesses. Best stay we had in Thailand. ;)
The staffs are super nice and helpful. The room is big and clean. Also the hotel is very close to Sairee beach, there are lots of restaurants and shops not so far from the hotel. Definitely worth the money!
The room was clean, location was nice- fairly close to the main road, but far enough from the noise. No swimming pool though, and a few minutes walk from the beach.
Nice hotel overall and reasonable price.
Nice view on the bay, very good location on one of the best beaches of the island. Good the partnership with diving school and very tasty breakfast. All the personal was always smiling and nice.
a unique hotel, completely wooden, you begin to understand all the charm when you see other hotels, sun loungers on the beach, few people, which is a huge advantage, well-groomed hotel area.
