Machu pichu is quite spectacular and set in an equally spectacular natural setting.
However the queues for the train, the bus going up, the entry, the toilets, the cafe, and the 800 metre queue for the bus back, together with the precipitous stairs and the congested trails through the site, greatly diminished the enjoyment of the experience . Waiting times amounted to several hours, often in the sun. And this was with pre-purchased tickets.
Weigh up a visit carefully. We enjoyed our stay at Ollantaytambo much more - a nice little rural town with fabulous archeology and Peruvian culture

It was a childhood dream for me. I had a foggy day when was my ticket. It was a mystery. Maybe it'll be better if it was sunny. The prise was very high, but when you have a dream, you should do it.

Machu Picchu was completely abandoned for nearly 400 years.
Machu Picchu was completely abandoned for nearly 400 years. There are no know written records of who built it, what it was used for or the part it played in Inca history. The guides are totally speculative. They have good stories..... but completely from their imagination. Do your homework and prepare for the visit.
They do pick you up at the train station when you arrive to help you with luggage. Walking distance to the hotel. Very quite at night even when it is right downtown. The bus that goes up Machu Picchu is right outside our hotel. Breakfast is good on the 6th flood with a great view of the whole town. Surrounded by lots of restaurant and massage places. Good reception who help me with printing out the ticket up Machu Picchu and also where to get the bus tickets. Free hot water and coco tea leaves. GReat view from our room.
The building backs onto the orchid preserve so it was in a quiet neighborhood. The top floor of the hotel has a patio with kitchen overlooking a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains and city with the sound of the town's creek cascading through - the most spectacular view I've seen. The room was spacious with all conveniences. Because Aguas Calientes is a 'pedestrian-only' city, walking through the neighborhoods was very tranquil. Manager Carlos, a former guide, was very helpful and informative.
The hotel is Spotless and new. Hotel is owned by a European and was built in 2019. It's simple but certainly up to US/European standards. Comfortable bed, great breakfast, staff was very helpful & friendly. It’s in a Quiet location. They offered a secure day storage. I was met at the train station with my name on a sign, which made it easy to find. Some reviews complain about hot water but if you let the faucet run for a few minutes, it’s plenty hot, the shower head and pressure are both great.
Well… I can’t seriously evaluate this particular hotel. Inkaterra has 2 hotels in the town. This one and the high-end Inkaterra Pueblo. Considering Machu Picchu just reopened after the protests in Peru and there were very few tourists just yet, it didn’t make sense for them to have both hotels open. We have booked this hotel, but they put us in their main hotel. That one was still maybe at 10-20% of its capacity.
That being said, the stay was amazing.
The walls of the room were a bit dirty and the door was very thin which means we could listen to the reception and all new guests that were checking in. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was nice. We really enjoyed the view from the room and the breakfast room and the location of the hotel was very good. In general and considering the Monday we payed it’s a Great Option if you want to stay in Aguas Calientes to see Machu Picchu.
A small hotel right in the centre of the town, a short walk to the train station and bus to Machu Picchu. A staff member waited for us at the station which was very kind and the train was an hour late, to show us to the hotel. At $40 USD per night this hotel is excellent value with a good bed and bathroom. Breakfast starts at 4.30am which is outstanding and helpful if you are on the 6am entry to Machu Picchu.
The rooms were fantastic and breakfast was delicious. Communication was first class and Jhoan organised our trip to Machu Picchu. Everything was first class from meeting us at our hotel in Cusco, to greeting us on our return and organising a taxi back to our hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and I can't thank him enough for his excellent service.
We stayed 3 days in aguas calientes town, it was a family trip. The host was kindly, he helped us with all our questions about trips and good restaurants near the hotel. Futhermore, the rooms were clean and very comfortable. The location is excellent, it's 6 min from train station on feet. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Machu Picchu.
The staff are very helpful and go as far as going to pick you up from the train station. They are very communicative and go out of their way to help you ease into your stay.
The hotel is very central to restaurants and the bus to Machu Picchu.
location of the property is really convenient to take train or to take a bus.
lots of restaurants are around. staff is polite snd helpful.
Room with the mountain view is impeccable. breakfast is good too. overall best hotel in aguas calientes.
The people were nice and prepared us a breakfast bag for our early departure to Machu Picchu. The hotel room was generally good. It was a pity that we arrived late and left early and didn't have the chance to enjoy the view outside the window.
Excellent location. For the train station to Cusco and the buses that go for Machupicchu. All within a minute of walking distance.
Well maintained hotel.
Everything is at your grip.
Free storage of luggages when you travel to Machupicchu.
Beautiful hotel located right near the train station and across the bus pick up for Machu Picchu. The staff were attentive and held our bags after check out. Nice breakfast buffet was provided. Nice views of the river from the rooms.
It was quiet and cozy - we guess compared to the other hotels closer to the center / train station / etc. it is great to get good rest before or after Machu Picchu! Also it was clean and comfortable for 1-2 nights!
The hotel was comfortable and the staff was excellent. The staff took care of all our needs and the facilities were great. Also, good location in the middle of Aguas Calientes, just across from the train station.
This was a comfy hotel in a fairly quiet place in Aguas Calientes where everything is within 3 mins walk. Rooms were big, clean and relatively modern. It felt like we generally got our money's worth.
It’s a beautiful place, great rooms, exceptional service, you can make free tours inside the hotel, the pools were amazing and the food is incredible!! I loved everything!
