A Charming Crossroads of Civilisations
Situated on the west part of Crete, the city of Chania is the second largest in this beautiful Greek island. Featuring rich history, breathtaking architecture and pristine beaches, Chania will take you to a fascinating journey through time.
Get your camera and wander around the narrow alleys of the old town or walk on the romantic promenade area of the old harbour with the iconic lighthouse. Set on a small hill, the central part of the town is called Kastelli and is populated since the Neolithic period.
A crossroads of civilisations, the city of Chania offers a harmonic combination of Venetian, Turkish and traditional Greek architecture. Do not miss the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Church of Chania, the Mosque of the Janissaries and the Venetian Fortification Walls.
The vibrant area of the new and old town has local taverns serving delicious regional specialties and tsikoudia. If you are lucky you might hear a Cretan mantinada, an improvised folk song about the everyday life.
Located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, the Chania International Airport is about 17 km from the city centre and offers year-round and seasonal flights to London, Brussels, Athens and Thessaloniki. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Chania.

The old town and harbour area are both beautiful and very interesting. There are lots of tiny streets with unusual different shops, museums and plenty of Minoan relics, all easy to see. Also some excellent tavernas and coffee shops.

I was in Chania for 4 days and it wasn’t enough for me.
I was in Chania for 4 days and it wasn’t enough for me. I’d recommend At least 5. The medieval town is breathtaking, you can walk through time travel on cobblestone streets that narrow and get a half liter of wine for 5 euros each and have dinner made my locals family for 5 euro. I ate a gourmet dinner on the boardwalk with a carafe of wine dinner for 2 only 65 euros and it was the most amazing food I have ate in my life. I highly recommend.

Stunning place, wonderful people and delicious food.
Stunning place, wonderful people and delicious food. Nea Chora beach is fantastic and there are many restaurants and cafés to choose from. I love to go before and after the high season. Easy to rent a car and drive around, the driving experience was fantastic, good roads and signals. People drive sensibly and there is free parking all over the island with no tolls at all.

The old town is lovely full of independent stores selling leather goods, clothes etc. Eat at one of the restaurants overlooking the port and lighthouse for fantastic views. Loved the backdrop of the snow covered mountains while basking in the 26 degrees sun despite it still being March.

We loved the Venetian port and the Old Town.
We loved the Venetian port and the Old Town. One of our favourite places was a restaurant called Paradisiaco in the upper part of the port on Theotokopoulou Street. It is a very interesting neighbourhood. A beautiful art shop with a friendly owner is in the same area. Another good restaurant is Maridaki in Maridaki Steet.

Its a quiet, mountainside/seaside town with amazing food.
Its a quiet, mountainside/seaside town with amazing food. I dont think I had one bad meal there. The beaches are amazing and the water is a crystal clear green/blue. I'm sure there are lots of activities and things to do involving hiking and snorkeling. If you're looking for lots of shopping from big retail, I dont think this is the place for you. A lot of the shops are local businesses.
The Pandora Suites was the perfect stay for our first trip to Crete. The accommodations were lovely. We had a two bedroom suite which was just the right size for our group of four. The location of the hotel is right in the heart of the old town. The best restaurants, shops, cafes and pubs are all within walking distance. We also greatly enjoyed the rooftop breakfasts each morning which overlook the harbor and the old town. it was a wonderful four day visit. We would highly recommend this property to anyone planning a visit to Chania.
Helena Hotel is the best experience we had on Crete. The room was super clean and well equipped, but what the most important – is the view of the city center from your window. I found extremely satisfying just watching the city living, and our room was the best spot for it. Great thanks to the guy from the reception (I am so sorry not remembering your name!) who recommended many delicious places to visit. We covered several of them and every time it was something worthy.
Will return to spend more time there.
Highly recommended
Cozy Corner was a perfect place to stay in Chania. It's only a 15 minute walk into the Old Town, but tucked away enough from the hustle and bustle. We rented a car and were a bit worried about parking, but we always managed to find a spot on the block. The aesthetic was very crisp and clean and had very modern fixtures. The balcony was also a lovely spot to have a Mythos in the evening. Very close to a 24hr mini market, other amenities, and lots of local eateries! It was a wonderful home base to explore Western Crete from.
We loved our comfortable room, beautiful view and awesome AC. The three sisters who run the hotel with their father make it feel like home! They helped us plan our day excursions, ordered Dominos to our room when we were too tired to move after hiking the Samaria Gorge, and even offered a laundry service for free. It was a lovely 20 minute walk into the old town along the coast, but there were also plenty of amazing seafood restaurants right outside the door. One of our favorite stays in Greece!
Don’t think I’ve ever stayed in such a good 4 star hotel. v traveller friendly in terms of commodities and comfort. Great location if travelling by car, but also for access to old town.
We had a lovely, spotlessly clean room with face cloths ( a rarity in 4 & even 5 star hotels). Breakfast was delicious with fresh orange juice. Staff delightful. In all, one of those rare 4 star experiences. Currently in 5 star in Heraklion which is not a patch on Samaria.
The apartment is modern and super well projected and furnitured. It is well equipped with everything you need.
The position is great and the host is super kind. He sent us useful suggestions about supermarkets and restaurants. Our experience with Urban Loft was superb and we recommend to everyone who wants to visit the city of Chania or Crete in general.
P.S The design of the apartment is beautiful and 5 stars. I especially enjoyed the huge bathtub.
The location of the apartment in old town is really convenient. Everything was in walking distance and we loved how quiet it was in the mornings. Its a nice touch to have the table outside the front door so you can sit with a drink and do some people watching :) MUST visit the Maritime Museum of Crete which is 2min away. I have never seen so many ship models in one place, exciting find. Restaurant tip: TAMAM - we ate there 3 times - very nice food.
This was in a small “boutique hotel” as we would refer to it as in the States. The staff went above and beyond for us, and were helpful during our stay. We had breakfast every morning, and one morning when we were going to be leaving early for a tour we had scheduled, they provided it the day before in our fridge so we would have it before we left. Short walk to all the shops and restaurants in the Old Town, and fantastic views off the balcony.
We stayed in three different hotels in Crete during our two weeks visit. Palazzo Duca was the best. It is located right in the center of the old town harbor. The room is beautiful and spacious. The staff was fantastic. Everyone of them was kind and helpful. The breakfast at the next door restaurant was delicious. They do prepare takeaway breakfast in case you need go out early.
We had a pleasant stay and will come back again.
This is an amazing property with clean modern facilities. the staff is really kind and helpful for all things. if and small. It feels like this area is on the cusp of changing and this hotel and a few other restaurants and cafes are the first of shops and boutiques and cafes to come. it’s a special location with magical sunsets and an removed feel. great jumping off point for Old Town and other Cretan explorations.
This property is incredible! Book it immediately! We stayed for 5 days while in Crete. The whole hotel is modern, new and spotlessly clean. The service is impeccable. Crisoula gave us the most amazing recommendations and made all our bookings for us. This hotel experience really made our entire stay at Chania unforgettable. The breakfast and views from the pool were some of the best my eyes have ever witnessed.
Rena has created a beautiful living space with cactus gardens and lovely outdoor seating areas. Everything is clean and there is so much room for a family of 4. We loved being able to walk to the best beach in Crete (Stavros) and eat at local tavernas. She had some wine and even cake waiting for us for our anniversary!
This was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in Greece! Our first time in Chania, the location was excellent walking distance to all the shops and restaurants! The hotel staff is top notch they go over and beyond . Roula , Andreas, Mira, and Ioulia are the best bartenders and staff there! I give it 5 stars
Everything about Alcanea Boutique Resort. We had a lovely one night stay and wished we could have stayed longer.
Check in by reception was easy and we were given a lot of helpful information to make our stay in Chania enjoyable. We recommend this hotel and will stay there again if we return to Crete.
This place was lovely. Our last night in Crete and a beautiful, boutique, bohemian upstairs room with a roof terrace overlooking the harbour. The owner was lovely and we could have stayed there forever. Absolutely gorgeous part of Chania's Old Town a stone throw from the water.
super central location inside the old town and 50 meters from the port. Nasos is the best host ever, super kind, helpful and with lot of suggestions for your trip. he also gave us typical products as a present. I’ll recommend him to all my friends traveling tu Crete.
Fantastic location 10mins from the old town if you are staying crete I suggest having a car or a bike.
This place was cute great views of the sunset staff are friendly and helpful.
Amazing breakfast buffet and I would highly suggest having dinner here aswell.
We had beautiful stay at this hotel. It is perfectly located, very clean and comfortable and the staff, especially Maria, is the most welcoming staff we encountered on our 2 weeks trip in Crete. Book this hotel. You won't regret it.
In the heart of Chania old town, this is a stylish and tranquil hotel with a lovely staff. This is one of our favorite places we stayed throughout a long trip through Greece! Would recommend to anyone.
Very modest hotel. It is clean and quiet, but other than that it has nothing that makes it shine. Next time in Crete I would definitely try to find another location/hotel.
