It is fair to say that the north coast of the island will never match the immaculate beauty and authenticity of the south. If you are going to choose the north however, then Tavronitis is probably a better choice than many other towns and villages. It is quiet with a small centre that offers everything you need, and a long beautiful beach that you can enjoy when the sea is not rough. So, unless you prefer the madness of places like Platanias, Tavronitis is probably a good & safe choice for your family holiday.

Don’t even think about booking an apartment on Tavronitis.

Don’t even think about booking an apartment on Tavronitis. Mole on walls, dirty toilet and bathtub, damaged walls, nothing good about this place. Please stay away if you don’t want to ruin your vacation. I left the booked apartment 5 minutes after I checked in loosing almost $400. 00 euros. booking.com and Katerina from Tavronitis didn’t want to refund any money either I show them the pictures of the condition of apartment.

The people, the smell of nature and herbs, the landscapes and seascapes, the buildings and lots of Greek quirketies. The true Greece without embellishments. If you want an authentic Greek holiday, Tavronitis is a good base. There are no nightclubs, it is a really relaxed holiday destination and you will be made welcome.

Tavronitis is a real Greek town (although we would probably view it as a village. The shops have everything you need and there are plenty of tavernas and kafenions 2 being along the beach front making for very relaxed evenings. The locals here are extremely friendly and willing to give advice if you want it. It is the Greece we all dream about. It is also next to the national highways although you do not see or hear the roads. This gives you easy access for touring the length and breadth of Crete easily. There is also a cash machine there which is very useful. Tavronitis is close to Chania but far enough away to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the island.

A town that has everything you need if you want to experience the real Greece. Plenty of bars and Tavernas but on a good bus route if you want to go further afield. The beach is within minutes of the town centre and there are a couple of good tavernas there as well. The locals - greek and ex pats alike welcome tourists and are happy to talk to you about the place and give advice if needed. Nobody is alone here. There are plenty of shops - supermarkets, bakery, butchers, hairdressers etc so if you want a quiet relaxed holiday you don't need to go any further although it would be a shame if you missed the nearby villages and of course the city of Chania.

We had a great stay at the Theros Hotel. Especially in Corona times it was nice to stay at a small and family-owned place close to a small village (5min walk). The room and pool area are nicely equipped and clean and because there aren’t a lot of rooms, we had the pool to ourselves most of the time. The family and staff are super friendly and helped us find a car when everything online was booked. Their restaurant recommendations were very good as well. A car is definitely a must to explore the area and beautiful beaches of the northwest.

The rooms were very comfortable, spacious, and clean. The bed was very comfortable, though the sofa bed was a little hard. There was a safe in the room. We enjoyed the pool and the nearby beach. Breakfast was tasty (with orange juice and coffee, fresh bread, ham, cheese, and a pastry). The staff were very kind and accommodating. The hotel is in a good location - the supermarket is a short drive away and the beach is a 5 minute walk.

The villa is in a great location. You can get easily to all the beaches around! There's not much to do in Tavronitis because is a small village but you can reach Chania in 25 mins. We also enjoyed the view from the balcony and the pool. The host is such a kind and nice person! He recommended us what beaches to visit and he also offered to make breakfast for us. The cleaning lady comes every day except for Sunday, generally all good

The villa is truly amazing! The support provided by the host was top-notch. The rooms are spacious. Sauna, Jacuzzi really added to the sense of luxury. The Tavronitis beach is right in front of the property, a large clean beach with clear water it is great place a for a swim (when we weren't at the pool). Thank you to all the staff for making our stay special!

The property is very spacious and the garden beautifully maintained. It is located only a short drive from local shops and lovely beaches in nearby Tavronitis and Maleme. The rooms offer a fantastic view of the mountains and are very comfortable. The hosts were very kind to us, welcomed us with some local snacks and produce from their farm which was lovely.

The views were outstanding. Perfect evenings watching the sunset from the upstairs terrace. We had absolutely everything we needed for an amazing relaxing week. Short walk to grocery store/bakery etc to stock up, but also a few lovely little taverna's nearby too. A great base to explore Crete, at the same time, away from it all and peaceful to relax.
