Loved the Riverside restaurants and playground area.
Loved the Riverside restaurants and playground area. The Hunderwaisser museum was good too. The walk along the river on a good day and arty house and crafts in shops are delightful. Whangarei city is nice to investigate the many stores and restaurants some up little alley ways. Great coffee and breakfasts there too. It's a lovely city I've visited many times.

People/salespersons are usually pleasant and helpful.
People/salespersons are usually pleasant and helpful.
Your ID will probably be checked at least once by police.
Large selection of food places.
Apart from Hundertwasser Art Centre, Whangarei Museum, the alternative Quarry Art Centre and the Waterfalls, check out town has anything else you need or are interested in… a quiet town otherwise!

The place is pretty by the marina with shops and restaurants, but! Due to circumstances missed the lunch/dinner hours for eating out. All (yes all on the waterfront) restaurants only offer bar snacks during other hours. EG fries, squid rings etc. We wanted something more substantial. Many people were walking away when they found that out. This is a tourist spot for pities sake!
We had had a long drive and were starving!
Also no really nice accommodation. Best I found was 3 1/2 star Distinction Hotel which has good bones but was really tired needing a major makeover. Stained carpet, wall paper peeling off. I am a kiwi and embarrassed that this tourist spot has sat on its laurels. I know people struggling with covid etc but wouldn’t you want to do everything in your power to make your place more desirable. My view - if you don’t have to stop don’t 😡

Pembrooke was across the road from a lovely inner city bush. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony and listening to the birdsong. Supermarkets and eats were close enough.
We didn't have enough time to visit places though we know there are great places to visit.

We only stayed for one night so we managed to get down to the marina and see the cool ball-clock and the Hundertwasser (which is amazing) and have an awesome lunch (so many places to pick from!). Next time we go to Whangarei we will be sure to do the loop walk which sounds very interesting indeed!

We went with the kids to aquatic centre, flip out, action zone and the heritage park. Very good family entertainment and easy to drive from place to place. The motel is very close to supermarkets and various eateries. Good location.
This is a lovely house-hotel place. You are sharing this house with other traveling guests, so some socializing would be going on if you stay here for more than one day. The rooms are cozy with comfortable beds. There was a small TV and plug-in electric heater provided. There are a couple of bathrooms to be shared and a homey kitchen. The host was very kind and communicative. The price was very fair as accommodations vary in this northern section of New Zealand.
We picked the Quest due to its central location in Whangarei which made it easy to walk around town. The staff were friendly enough and the room was a decent size and clean.
There is secure on-site car parking under the building for a price, but be aware that spaces are limited and it's quite tight.
There is amazing urban art in Whangerei which was an pleasant surprise and totally unexpected.
Chelsea House is a beautiful property and it was interesting to hear a little of its history. The hosts were very warm and welcoming and it was good to get their dinner suggestions and a little about the points of interest in the area. Our room was very warm and spacious and the bed was super comfortable. A lovely alternative to the usual hotel/motel accommodation.
Because one of us needs a walking frame to get around we have often found staying at motels (even ones that claim to be accessible) quite challenging. But Cheviot Park was great. Plenty of space to get around, great facilities with everything we needed easily on hand, and really friendly staff. Good location too. Can't recommend it enough.
Enjoyed our stay here - comfortable rooms, great service and good location (quick 5 min drive into town centre). Generally well equipped and facilities were clean (some parts were a bit older-looking, but still very much did the job!). Also learnt that this motel is pretty much on the opposite side of the globe from the real Casablanca haha!
Hotel is very well located with view across the Boat Harbour and short walk to the new Hundertwasser Art Centre which was the main reason for our visit to Whangarei. Also close to a number of good restaurants. Room large and comfortable and continental breakfast at Hotel was excellent.
Nancy’s home is lovely! She has though of everything to make travelers feel welcome and comfortable. My spacious room had a view of the garden, a terrace, an ensuite bath with even a towel warmer. And her kitchen was fully supplied! My best stay so far in New Zealand…you won’t be sorry!
Nice large room, friendly staff, good parking and good beds. The location is excellent. The town center (Town Basin) is just a 15 minute walk, and two supermarkets are about next door. Whangarei also turned out to be more interesting than we had expected.
It was lovely for such a cheap price, spa bath was awesome, we recieved a message saying our room was ready with instructions and we drove straight in, very straight forward! Cosy and had Sky TV, would happily stay again.👌
Great outlook to the water (bottom of garden) from the shared lounge. Alice a wonderful host, gave us a lovely breakfast treat. Room with on suite very pleasant. Easy access from Whangarei. Shared kitchen has all you need.
The motel proprietors were very helpful and gave a lift to and from the airport. That was much appreciated.
The motel was a short walk from the Hundertwasser Gallery which was the main point of our visit to Whangarei.
I've been to motel six a few time now, I love that motel key is always ready nd the place is nice ND quite.. As I do book in after work as 2 tired 2 drive home, Motel six is my go 2 when in Whangarei...The stay is good
Nice and handy to town, was cheap as chips so wasn't expecting luxury, staff were super lovely, shower was not as clean as it could be but overall all good for the price
