Great peaceful location. Beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Exactly as described. Would have liked longer, but we only had one night booked. Close to Hobbiton (20 mins drive). We plan to return for longer. Guest suite is wonderful. Tea, coffee, cereal. Juice and snacks left. Nice views and very relaxing, very clean and very comfortable.

We booked due to the proximity for the Hobbiton Tour. The Chalet was really close and enabled us to not have to rush in the morning to make our scheduled tour.

Centrally located town of the North Island worth an overnight stop for lots of sightseeing spots nearby and good eateries. We recommend Hobbiton to anyone, even if you are not a fan of the movie series. It is a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. Also do not miss the unique Blue Spring in Putaruru.
The township of Matamata has many drinking and eating options for all budgets and some really nice places are reasonably priced.

We visited specifically to visit Hobbiton, this was a perfect stay for this purpose. We had a great meal at The Redoubt, although if eating on a Wednesday evening it helps if you enjoy Country and Western music. Pretty much everything was in walking distance. The area is really well looked after

Great place to unwind and just chill.
Great place to unwind and just chill. Handy to Rotorua and Tauranga too. If you want somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities but with all the essentials, Matamara is the place to be.

We loved our stay at A Place In the Paddock.
We loved our stay at A Place In the Paddock. It was just what it says. A beautifully appointed 3 bedroom house with room for family and friends right in the middle of a working dairy farm. We all enjoyed our stay. We visited the nearby Okoroire Hot Springs in Tirau close by. The are beautiful natural thermal pools in the bush. A must do.
The Walnut Lodge B&B was amazing! The hosts were extremely nice and helpful! They baked fresh bread for us everyday for breakfast, and even offered archery lessons! The rooms were spacious, clean, and the beds were very comfortable. It’s location is great for visiting Hobbiton, going out to eat in Matamata, and venturing to Auckland or Rotorua. We booked both rooms offered at this location, which provided us with a private experience with our group of people! It was perfect for our stay.
It was perfect for what we needed. It was very straightforward. We flew into Auckland that morning and drove to Hobbiton. After our tour we drove to Matamata, grabbed food at DK's Burger place on the main Street and then found Denchy's. It was easy to get into and when we went in we were very pleased. It was nicely decorated, had a comfortable bed, a counter, small fridge, sink, cutlery, dishes, etc. The bathroom is very adequate. Everything was spotless.
Gerda & Twan’s place is amazing! we felt so comfortable there. It was immaculately clean and had everything we needed. The breakfast was wonderful! It is such a peaceful setting…waking up and seeing adorable goats grazing outside your window is just so special. And we were so happy we got to meet the sweet cats! We would absolutely stay here again if we are ever back in New Zealand and will recommend it to our friends and family. Thank you Gerda & Twan!!!
Excellent detail to the little things when added up make this stay a delightful and top drawer experience. Glenn and Mark are fabulous hosts who are easy to connect with and provided us with several ideas for places to see. I highly recommend a stay there to experience first hand the amenities that await you.
The drive into Matamata takes five minutes with only two turns, one of which is out the driveway, for you drivers used to right hand driving.
We really enjoyed the quiet and peaceful location of Jen and Dowie’s Airbnb. The story of how they built the house without nails is amazing and we appreciated the craftsmanship and how homey and comfortable the barn is. They are wonderful hosts and provide amazing food and conversation. We also really appreciated Jen making calls for us and recommending restaurants. We will hoped be able to go back to one of our favorite Airbnbs.
The location is close to the town centre of Matamata. Whilst it is an old style motel on the outside, inside it has been modernised and has everything a traveller needs, especially the large and comfortable beds and excellent showers. There is also no doubt that old style block walls do a great job as far as sound proofing is concerned. And, most importantly, the manager/owner was very welcoming, helpful and pleasant.

The hosts, Glenn and Mark, were amazing! They made us a lovely dinner and homemade breakfast which was phenomenal. The studio itself is decorated so nicely and cleverly, e.g. with USB sockets near the bed which is a rarity in places we stayed in New Zealand. They have a picnic table on their fields where you can enjoy a nice glass of wine with a truly beautiful and peaceful setting.
We loved our stay at Broadway in Matamata! We probably only needed the apartment behind the house as it was just the two, I craved a full house to fill all the rooms. It was a lovely cosey stay after a big day at Hobbiton. Great town with lots to see and places to eat. Easy to access and great communication with staff.
The location worked very well for us. The hostess gave us some good recommendations for hikes nearby. This was a very good location for our visit to the Hobbiton Set nearby. The downtown is charming, and the hostess gave us great recommendations for places to dine out.
good accommodation, described exactly as it is, easy to find, good proximity to matamata cbd and hobbiton, has laundry facilities on site, good partnership with local businesses that gave us good deals with meals (Osteria restaurant was amazing), very accommodating host
Everything. The friendliness of our host, the beauty of the garden, the goats' antics, the beautiful poplar trees, the stream near by.... the accommodation was really good... everything you needed was there. Thank you.
A place in the Paddock is a lovely space on a farm just outside of Matamata- there is a small museum on property- the space is clean, quiet and just lovely!
