It’s a unique experience, away from the usual hotel. This brings you closer to nature, a place to reflect and chill. Most have a little space in front or behind the unit to just sit around with a cuppa and enjoy the environment. Had the chance to stay at the chapel which was the largest unit and was an awesome experience.
I can see this as a place for you to hold your wedding vows and bring your whole clan to join you staying there.
All the units were built by the owners who have thought of everything you need, including shoe dryers and leg massagers etc. They stay on site and every nice folks too!
Newly opened in February 2014, Guest House Yakushima is located in the southern part of Yakushima. It offers free Wi-Fi throughout the property, free parking and a luggage storage service.

Location was amazing and wild on a far quiet side of the island.
Situated in Yakushima and only 12 km from Shiratani Unsuikyo, Minnsyuku Yakushimaya features accommodation with sea views, free WiFi and free private parking.
Yakushima is a beautiful island with amazing views.
Yakushima is a beautiful island with amazing views. The island is quiet and not touristy at all. Most things are closed on Sundays and don’t chose Yakushima if you want to go shopping or night life (it doesn’t exist). If you want great hiking, beautiful views and a touch of peace and quiet it’s a great place to go. Rent a car. Definitely worth it to tour the island and some of the inland roads (be warned they are very narrow and slow moving in many places, and you will need to reverse a lot for others to pass) It was a great way to see the island all its beauty and tons of monkeys.

Shiratani Unsuikyo was breathtaking.
Shiratani Unsuikyo was breathtaking. Jumonsugi Cedar trail was an adventure but not as pretty as Shiratani Unsuikyo. I am glad I did it but would not do it again. I will remember Shiratani Unsuikyo for the rest of my life as one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and I have travelled a lot. Words cannot describe how beautiful it was. I wish I had 4 nights here. I needed one more day to explore the island. People should think twice about doing Jumonsugi trail. It is a lot and quite hard. Do it for the adventure but not for the views.

Incredible island full of wonderful nature toe explore, I could have spent 5 days here probably, although a car rental would be really helpful. The buses and taxis are relatively expensive and not always available or convenient.

You have to hike on Yakushima to really appreciate it.
You have to hike on Yakushima to really appreciate it. The drive into the hills to get to these walks is incredible. The walks through moss and forests of ancient trees is brillant. It is like stepping into another world on Yakushima. If not into hiking, then the waterfalls and beaches and tide pools are also great.

It is an amazing island with beautiful nature and scenery...
It is an amazing island with beautiful nature and scenery but not well developed infrastructure and scarce public transport system. Best to rent a car, otherweise it limits activity on the other side of the island. Realisticly speaking the one destination visit per day is maximum with public transport. It is also necessary to begin early, as there are not really activities just for a half day (due to bus schedules). Therefore a 3 days stay may be a bit too short considering travel time with a ferry. It is good idea to shop before reaching island as there is limited supermarket choice.

Very wild Island.
Very wild Island. Good for people liking forest and trails, not good for people liking beaches. Not touristic Island. Organic Island, locals people are nice and helping. No shops. 7 days is enough to stay and visit.
We loved everything!
The cottage is really great, the hot tub on the balcony is soo nice and the staff is awesome! They went beyond and above and we felt really welcome here! We even got a daily local surprise which was really great and delicious!
The location was perfect for us, not in the city and you could enjoy the island and the quiet surrounding. I would recommend to go by car as we felt this make it more convenient (but maybe only personal preference).
All in all, we can only recommend staying here when visiting Yakushima.
I slept on an extremely comfortable futon, and was given everything needed to recharge at the end of a long day exploring Yakushima and be prepared for the next one. The staff were incredibly fun and welcoming, and did an excellent job of checking in on every guests itinerary for the day to make sure they had what they needed/knew how to get there and back in one piece. The breakfast bentos and optional lunch bentos were a convenient and filling way to feed an all-day hike. Everything was exceptional.
Everything was perfect. The food was absolutely delicious, and exceeded all expectations-- after every meal, I was left craving more. In addition, the hosts were very accommodating and informative. They made sure we had the best experience in Yakushima, recommending and scheduling tours for us, especially during the rainy days when we were not able to do much. They also packed lunches for our hikes. Despite the weather, just meeting them was an absolute pleasure, and I hope to return soon.
The cottage is simple but elegant, decorated with attention to detail but without being tacky. The owner is nice and helpfull. The surrounding area is well-kept and quiet, despite being close to the airport (literally a few minutes by car, maybe 15 or so by foot). Many of the attractions of Yakushima are reachable by car in 30 minutes, making this a perfect base from
which to explore the island.
It was very clean and quiet and comfortable. Our host Barbara was amazing. she was very hospitable and very friendly. We had a cracking view over the river. It’s close to a couple of beaches so you can find one for swimming and snorkelling. There are lots of cool fish! Will definitely stay again if we return to Yakushima.
An absolutely amazing place to stay in Miyanoura area. The room was very spacious and had everything you might need, and the traditional bath elevated the experience even further. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We hope to come back to Yakushima and to Sen-no-Ie in particular (¬‿¬)
I really enjoyed the privacy of a stand-alone cottage in the middle of the forest. Since there were only a couple of other guests in the hotel, we could also enjoy the bath fully privately. The location is perfect as a base to hike Shiratani Unsuikyo: a short car ride to the trail head.
The cottage is clean and well organised. And the owner helped us with driving us to the entrance point for the local peak. You cannot be sure if the taxi is available from nine pm to five am in Yakushima. He is very kind and helpful for such moment hikers.
Spacious room, great shower, functional kitchen and most importantly the bus stop is right in front, so convenient. Also there is supermarket walking 10mins very chill. And the bridge has the best view to look over the mountains, oh Yakushima!
Amazing option in Yakushima. Very nice hosts in Hitomi and Shigeru who will help you with your planning or even to rent a car. Best food with homestyle japanese cooking for breakfast and dinner. Thank you for the experience!!!
Friendly and warm host. Ready to provide you with local information, help make reservations, and share Yakushima's beauty. The space felt more homey as the owner was very warm and inviting. Thank you very much!
You can't beat the location of this little guesthouse, just two minutes walk from the ferry. Very helfpul host. Comfortable rooms, more like a youth hostel than a hotel but very nice nonetheless.
Beautiful hotel surrounded by stunning scenery. They gave the most impeccable service from start to finish. Great amenities and an incredible restaurant! Our stay was perfection!
The Umi no Cottage Tida was absolutely gorgeous - in all regards!! Alone that is reason enough to come back to Yakushima! Thank you so much Yuko San and Nerone San!
literally close to toppy boat in Miyanoura. staffs were so helpful as well
it is on the luxury side of hotel, but the big room and ocean view is really worth it
