Doornbosch Estate, hotel in Elim

Doornbosch Country Cottages is set on a 5000 ha working farm surrounded by a tranquil mountain scenery.

The house is beautiful and as one of our overseas friends said "rather like Scottish castle on the moors" It is well supplied and very spacious and comfortable. And it is only a short distance to villages, a good pub and amenities and more important,, excellent wine farms.

It's small enough to be insignificant which was the stated aim of the trip. Wine and scenery to enjoy, in an unspoilt environment - we did not spend time in town, which is tiny, and only visited surrounding national parks, and local haunts for wine and food. There really isn't too much to do, but the wine in the region is excellent, and with a good book and a fire, you'll only be enriched for it. Check out the Wetlands tour, and Black Oystercatcher as well as Strandveld Winery.
