Main Street Santander is not ideal, you listen to reggaeton music in many places which is terrible and so disgusting. There are many little restaurants where you can eat for a fair price. The lake view is great but the surroundings are not very nice, the place is not tourist ready, you might go to other little towns like San Pedro, Santa Cruz or San Juan

Like with many places (or even more than most places) depending on your choices Panajachel can be fabulous, beautiful, exhausting, authentic, spiritual, commercial and ……Read about it as much as you can before you go. Endless options here for all kinds of traveler. I found it to be very interesting and would love to be able to come back some day.

Panajachel is paradise. The weather is beautiful.
Panajachel is paradise. The weather is beautiful. Lots of sun, but not too hot most of the time. Lots of great restaurants. There are a lot of markets stalls around with local goods, like hand woven textiles. The lake itself is amazing. Panajachel has access to something for everyone. San Juan for artists, San Pedro for a nice night life, San Antonio for pottery, San Marcos for yoga retreats, etc. All of the towns are just a lancha (ferry) ride away. Be careful during the rainy season, because in the afternoons you can get soaked

This is a very clean and safe place to stay.
This is a very clean and safe place to stay. I felt very safe being out during the day and at night also. It is easy to get a tuk tuk to take you where you want to go. There are plenty of places to eat with a variety of menu choices. Most menus have vegetarian options. I have never had a problem with finding great food and the prices are very reasonable.
If you want to explore the other villages on the lake, it is easy to take a public boat and go anywhere.

This town is so much fun.
This town is so much fun. Definitely has a tourist trap vibe but the activities here are so much fun. We did an ATV tour to see the sunset. We had a blast! The views were breathtaking. There was some road work that cut our planned tour short but the guild we had was amazing and did what he could to make it a full and worth while experience. Simoon tours was who we went with. Yesua was our guild, though I could be butchering his name, sorry if I am. He was amazing! I would absolutely do other tours they offer, especially if he was the guild again. So much fun!
The property is beautiful! All facilities are well kept up with and it give us the Guatemalan Mayan feel we were looking for during our trip. The view was breathtaking, you can walk down from your room to a magical view of the Volcanic lake. They have a small kids that’s my daughter got to enjoy at the end of our day. We didn’t have a chance to try out the restaurant food since we went out to eat but we tried out the small cafe down stairs and it was as expected delicious rich Guatemala coffee.
The rooms are immaculate, just like the whole place. The owner, Kazuomi, has owned Hotel El Sol since 2008. He lives on the property with his beautiful family. The vibe Is Japanese/Guatemalan, the best of both worlds. There’s even a koy fish and the neighborhood is safe and quiet, tucked up against the mountain. Breakfast in their restaurant is always delicious and the staff is top notch. Hotel El Sol is the only place I stay when in Pana. Booked four days, stayed a week. :-)
The view is beautiful, and it was really nice to have the living area and kitchenette. It was great to sit out on the balcony to take in the view in the mornings and evenings, and besides the occasional barking of neighborhood dogs, it was a quiet and restful place. The restaurant in the hotel complex had excellent food. All in all, it was a wonderful stay! We would stay there again.
The view, restaurant, pool, and facilities of the hotel were perfect. There is a lot to do with the game room, pool, kayaks, and dock where you can get a boat to go to the other cities around the lake. The restaurant food is amazing and reasonably priced for the area. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, we just wish that the apartment was cleaner.
Cleanest hotel in Guatemala. Helpful owner available if you need assistance. Best value in panajachel, get a nice hotel room with clean bedding and a private bathroom for the same price as the hostels downtown. Definitely the best value for affordable accommodations with western cleanliness standards.
The hotel was a complete quiet room. It was down an alley quite near the center of activity and the main street in Panajachel. There were also some lovely local stores that I found interesting as well. There was also one shop where Piñatas were made so I got to see that process.
The staff is always friendly. They can help you make arrangements to visit other parts of Guatemala. I like the location because it is a short walk to the local market. If you are going to the lake you can easily catch a tuk tuk at the end of the road.
Room was clean. Breakfast was delicious. Good location and the staff can't do enough for you. Great value for money. We ended up staying an extra night here. The kitchen facilities are basic but cleaner than any we've seen so far in Guatemala or Belize.
The hotel was relatively close to everything in Panajachel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. On-site parking was a bonus. If you are looking to explore Panajachel and be about the town, this hotel is an exceptional value
Loved the location of the hotel right on the main street in Panajachel, walking distance to all restaurants and the beach! Clean and quiet despite being centrally located, with spacious rooms and private bathrooms!
The room was simple but had everything we needed. The breakfast was the traditional Guatemalan breakfast: eggs, black beans, cheese, bread, plantains, and some fruits with coffee.
The hotel is located in a very nice spot in Panajachel. The pool area is lovely and the room has a good size. The food is lovely, I had dinner and it was nice, breakfast too.
Clean place, very warm welcome at reception. Big room with en-suite shower. TV played HBO movies which was great. Good little spot to explore pana / lake Atitlan.
