We know the Isle of Man very well and although Douglas has suffered through the current financial crisis, it is still a good city to visit. The museum is free and very informative. The tour of the government building likewise. It is easy to get around the city and buses to other parts of the island are plentiful. There is a range of restaurants to suit every pocket and we also cane home with Isle of Man kippers. People are friendly, including the lovely staff at the Hydro. I would always encourage visitors to make Douglas a base and travel all over the Island. Peel, Ramsey and Castletown all are worth a visit and offer differing aspects of the Island.

Douglas is a seaside town with most places in close proximity to each other; the ferry terminal and Tourists Information Centre, the shops, cafés, pubs, banks, museum, and the two seafront theatres. The Villa Marina is a large theatre and cinema. The Gaiety Theatre is a smaller and most charming old theatre. Further down the Seafront is The Palace Cinema. I enjoyed a good film there. Comfortable seats. There a nice chippies around the town. The bus route Douglas to Ramsey along the coast road has stunning views. The other main towns are quick and easy to get to on bus, and the airport too. That's just half hour away.

Douglas is lovely, lots or restaurants, bars and shops it is clean and feels safe. The seafront is great lovely view of the harbour and is well maintained. There is a theatre which looked fabulous but we didn't have time to stay for a show.

I lived in Douglas for 3 years, 20 years ago, so I know it well. Although, there has been many changes. Nice city, friendly people, things to see. A city you can relax in as it's not like other cities.

Once we got a parking pass from the ferry terminal it was very easy parking around the island. It made it easier as the hotel didn't have a car park but you could leave the car on the promenade for up to 16 hours in 24.
We went in October but had a good week it never rained all the time we were there. The hotel was brilliant, in the right location and as we took the car we were able to get around. The hotel had a pianist playing in the background so the ambience whilst just chatting was excellent. Food was excellent and plenty of choice, also good value on the bar meals. Thank you Empress hotel for making it a good few days away.

I/we liked the city of Douglas very much, good shopping area, excellent pubs ( the ones l frequently visited) very friendly staff and excellent CASK beers. Food served in the pubs l/we frequentled was first class, and very reasonably priced. Fantastic areas visited out of Douglas, Beautiful sea views and bays. Will definitely visit again.
Nice little hotel just off the promenade, very convenient for public transport and a short walk into Douglas town or an even shorter bus ride, the bus stop is at the bottom of the road. Also a short walk to the Electric Tram station. Our family room was very comfortable and breakfast was good too. We were able to leave our luggage on check out until later in the day.
We arrived by ferry and caught a bus to the property, basically any bus going along the promenade will take you there, get off at the Empress Hotel.
Comfortable, well-adapted house hotel near the waterfront of Douglas, close to bus stops and some good restaurant options. Single room was small but well-organized. Staff was friendly and welcoming, as well as particularly good at communicating when I had a late arrival. Breakfast options were extensive and good-quality. With an early morning departure, staff kindly provided me with a bag of food since I would miss out on breakfast. Lots of tourism information was available in the main hall.
What can I say ….. We were greeted by the owner Kim, what a lovely genuine lady that couldn’t do enough for us, we requested rooms close together as we where travelling with parents which resulted in Kim upgrading one of our rooms to accommodate this request👍🏼
The accommodation was right next to the electric tram and horse tram so easy to explore the wonderful Isle of Man 👍🏼
I don’t normally write reviews unless unhappy however this hotel is a little gem and I would defiantly recommend 😃
Located on the north end of Douglas Promenade. A fair distance from the city centre and shops, however there is a bus stop close by with a regular service. Five minute walk to the Electric Railway Terminus.
The hotel was very clean and looked well maintained. My room no 12 was decorated to contemporary style and was spotless. There was a lift to all floors.
The dining room doubles as a Chinese Restaurant in the evening.
Despite being the ugliest building on Douglas sea front the hotel is fine inside. We had a sea view room which had a small balcony and excellent views. Buffet style breakfast is very good. One night we ate in the restaurant and that was good value. Guest have access to the Health Club which has a decent sized pool. Good sized car park. Intenet worked well. Staff friendly and helpful.
Staff are so nice and helpful. Fabulous breakfast. Nice large, comfortable rooms. Nice bar. Minutes from the beach front. Lovely 10mins walk along the front to the centre of Douglas. 10 mins in the other direction to the electric train service to Laxey, and Ramsey. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Great value and I will absolutely return here next time I am on the Isle of Man.
On the promenade so hotel has fantastic views over Douglas Bay, with beautiful walks and access to the horse tram just across the road. Easy walking distance to the shops and bus stop out the front of the hotel makes travelling around the island easy. The staff went out of their way to accommodate special diet requests
Good location, nice room with sea views. Hotel standards in Douglas aren't great generally, but this is one of the better places. The attached restaurant is run by a separate operator, and serves good food with an old-fashioned menu -- it's popular with local people for special occcasions.
Beds were really comfy and the breakfast in the morning was spot on. Situated on the front of the promenade the location was perfect for shops and bars. When we visit the Isle of Man again the Cubbon House will be top of the list to book with. Hosts were friendly and efficient.
A very clean, fresh comfortable hotel with a tasty breakfast. Room 12 was lovely and we had a separate sitting area to relax in. We enjoyed our stay and was spoiled by Yolandi our Host. I would recommend this Hotel and would stay again.
Obviously the hotel has tried to update accommodation to meet expectations of visitors in the 21st century which for what I needed it did. Choice at breakfast was excellent - hot food was hot! The room was clean and decoration tidy
The hotel is well maintained. Breakfast was good, though the choices did not vary much. The dinner on Friday night was good. Very attentive staff and the entertainment by the piano player during dinner was very much appreciated.
Breakfast was excellent, good choice, cooked to order and staff always pleasant, B&B within walking distance of centre of Douglas and choice of restaurants, hotels for places to eat and drink
