The pool is great fun - especially when the weather isn't good. It stays open until 9pm. Towels for the pool are available from reception. The facilities and grounds are well kept and there is lots to keep kids busy. Rooms are well equipped and clean. Beds and pillows are comfy.

The town has a number of interesting shops for homeware, clothing and home-produced preserves and food stuffs. There is a good range of restaurants and we enjoyed our meals at Clementine's, Gosto and the Clarens Brewery. Most places are to be found around the central grassy square and they are very easy to access..

Clarens is over commercialised.
Clarens is over commercialised. It mostly consists of numerous shops consisting of items you can find in many other places. The Emporium was a favourite. Excellent owner with a lot of details on the figuribes sold there. I thoroughly enjoyed buying my Burmese figure there. The art galleries are a must. Personally Clarens for me is more of a stop to go hiking and go to Golden Gate. It is too busy, bad roads - and I am used to potholes. The Protea hotel in the middle of town was a let down. Such a big hotel in nature was unnecessary. If you want to walk and just look at shops the town will work for you. Personally for me this is a good area to stop and go hiking and take a break from the city but other than that not somewhere I will visit frequently.

The hiking trails around Clarens are very well worth while doing and are not too strenuous, provided that you keep to the ones lower down the mountainside.
The town square is where it all happens and is a lovely buzz. Food outlets are good and plentiful.

The Clarens Conservancy is well looked after.
The Clarens Conservancy is well looked after. We paid R40 for a map and R30 each for a 7-day ticket and the money is well used to maintain a wonderful network of walks along the river and the side of the mountains. For us this was the highlight, although we also enjoyed visiting the shops on the central common. Our only disappointment was that the drought meant that the waterfalls were dry!
Based on our culinary experience, at the to-rated restaurant, I suggest you stick to the traditional "country" favourites and resist the tempation to try the more "gourmet" dishes
Clarens is a great place for combining activity with relaxation and it still suprises me how close it is to Joburg (less than 3,5 hours) on decent roads and that having been in South Africa for almost 30 years, this was our first visit. Btw we did not even get to the Golden Gate National Park this time but will do that at our next visit.
GPS coordinates only take you to the Clarens golf estate gate when you should actually drive another 14 km on the R 712 if not mistaken to see the farm board on your right hand side coming from Clarens towards Golden gate. Within 2 hours off reaching this destination I KNEW that I KNEW I am on HOLIDAY. I did not want to leave the lodge, all was great for body, mind and soul and spirit. Thank you for sharing this fully equipped property with your guest.
Saints Rest is well equipped holiday home within close proximity to Clarens. The house is situated in tranquil surroundings in a golf estate and has a nice view of the mountains. The 4 bedrooms are all en suite which ensures privacy when travelling in a large group. I highly recommend Saints Rest to a large group of travellers.
Everything was PERFECTO!! Warm and cozy. Expect for my drive to my destination, it felt like I did not even left my home. free fresh farm milk, home made biscotti and rusks ON THE HOUSE, a first for me in our sunny South Africa.
will definitely return to this second home of mine when I'm visiting Clarens again.
Location next to the Ash River was amasing!!!! Great getaway for couples to blow off steam and experience a romantic time. PODS have been equipped with such style and comfort. Cleanliness is impeccable. This is truly a HOME away frome HOME!!!!!
Will certainly make this an annual trip.
The Farm is absolutely amazing and is a stunning place to stay at.
Not far from Clarens at all, very close.
The bedding is so crisp and fresh and the views are stunning, the best is when the stars come out at night.
The people are so welcoming and friendly.
The owner greeted us warmly. She fulfilled our request for a bowl of berries and non-alcoholic champagne and added extra brownies! The farm is a lovely weekend break and there is much to see and do in the town nearby, Clarens.
Knowing Clarens as a tourists attraction place,it was very easy to enjoy the place as it is a Jewel of the Free State. We enjoyed the morning breeze;shopping and walking as well as other places of fun in the area.
Great option for a quick stay in Clarence. Centrally located and very fair price. We arrived late and even though the restaurant (which forms part of the hotel) was closed the chef whipped us up some spaghetti!
The Hotel is new. It is exceptional with its design, art and decoration. Relaxed atmosphere. Very helpful staff. Not in the busy center of Clarens, but in walking distance. Close access to hiking trails.
We really enjoyed the lodge. It was nice and private. The room was wonderful, I really enjoyed waking up to the beesbok running around. Very close to Clarens and a short drive to Golden Gate.
- The property was really clean and neat for pet friendly
- Kitchen had all utilities and dinning dishes needed
- Great location in Clarens, walking distance to the town
It is in the most beautiful location in Clarens, not are you just surrounded by the most beautiful garden, mountains and stream it feels like a little piece of Heaven.
the staff is always great, friendly and professional, the location of the hotel is excellent, we go there anually just because we like the town and hotel
