My partner and I stayed at Casa Da Djedja for 3 nights when landing in Sao Vicente and liked it so much that we booked it for another 2 nights when coming back to Mindelo to take our flight as we returned from Santa Antao. The place is an island of paradise in Mindelo, with its elegant architecture, white walls and beautiful little garden in the common area. The staff is absolutely lovely and helped us find our bearings on the island.

The most convenient airport for both domestic and international travellers is Cesária Évora Airport, located approximately 10km from Mindelo. It offers regular flights and is easily accessible, making it the best choice for travellers.

I liked the atmosphere and vibrance of the city.
I liked the atmosphere and vibrance of the city. Everywhere at night is live music. During the day you can walk around town or do an island tour or relax at Laguinha Beach. At night its best you take a taxi everywhere you go, because it can get a little sketchy. The taxi's are 2 euro's per ride.
Don't forget Mindelo is a city with it's own problems. There are a lot of homeless people, junks and other people who want something. Especially when you are a tourist. You have to find your way.
Nice places to eat: Casa Cafe Mindelo, La Pergola, Nautilus (these are all pretty touristic)
Nice cafe: Jazzy Bird
I would say, maximum of 7 days is enough.

Mindelo is a city with a vibe.
Mindelo is a city with a vibe. Its vibrant, full of colours and lovely people. I was there during the annual carnival -- a must see. But Sao Vicente, Mindelo, is a place where you can mingle and jingle at the same time.
I loved the different arts on the streets. And of course Cesera Evoro's house.
Mindelo is full of artists -- musicians most of all.

Mindelo is a place that you can like or not be too sure...
Mindelo is a place that you can like or not be too sure about. I liked it. It was a bit rough edged,, but more interesting and lively than Praia. The exhibit on Cesaria Evora in the museum was interesting. Buy some CDs- you won't regret it! Some of the restaurants are too European and cater to the yachtie crowd- find ones that are more Verdean. The markets are interesting- be sure to go into the fish market. Walk the streets and look at the wall murals and architecture. Go into the artisan area. I wan't there on a weekend- so live music was less easy to find, but in Cafe Mindelo you can listen to it.

It is not too big so it's easy to get around.
It is not too big so it's easy to get around. You have an accessable beach nearby, also great for snorkelling. The best places to eat need some exploring, ask other travellers who have been around for longer. Watch out for pickpockets. Was a major problem now.
The hotel is well-located to many restaurants and the port/terminal where one can take the ferry to the neighboring island. We arrived early (before the check-in time), and Henry offered us free breakfast at the hotel restaurant, located just downstairs. We left for the other island early the next morning, and he made sure that a small snack had been prepared for us. Days later, we were able to keep our bags there as we explored the city. Henry (again) arranged a taxi for our trip to the airport. I would definitely stay here again!
Hands down the best place to stay in Mindelo. Stayed here also 2 or 3 years ago, and will probably come back again. A well equipped 1 room appartment (with an enclosed bathroom) with everything you need for a minimal price. Some of the rooms even have airconditioning and offer a stunning view over the Laginha beach and Mindelo's bay. Very quiet area, though during the day you might hear some heavy machinery due to several buildings being constructed nearby. Very pleasant host Carina.
Position of the hotel to sea. I like that its clean NOT like Praia which has garbage issues and sewage flowing down the main road occasionally in Palmarejo .They take care of their sea life like the turtles, the fishermen were concerned about the plastic, somehow it hasn't occurred to Santiago to take care of their island. The lack of understanding that we are all connected, taking care of the environment is taking care of ourselves has not happened in Santiago.

I was worried that the location would be too far from the center of Mindelo. In fact, it was a short walk both to the center of Mindelo and to the beach, admittedly a walk downhill and then a return uphill. It was even closer to our two favorite music venues: Metalo Fast Good (sic) and Birdie Jazz. Also, Katy and her team were great. Breakfast was an event, eating on a balcony overlooking Mindelo.
Lively restaurant with the hotel above accessed by a separate entrance. The location is great, right in the centre, and within a few minutes flat walk from the ferry terminal. A taxi to the airport cost the equivalent of 12 euros. The rooms are a good size, clean and well decorated, and there are some nice communal areas.
The hotel is a beautiful colonial house with a patio at the center and a small pool.
The staff is welcoming and the kitchen ladies are really nice!
The room was very comfortable and clean.
At the last day, as we were leaving really early they were really kind and prepared us a breakfast sooner than scheduled.
Very quiet and comfortable apartment at short walking distance from the harbour and about anything else in Mindelo. Marvelous terrace with seating and dining area is a great plus. Excellent bedding and well equipped kitchen. Rafael, his mother Rita, and his uncle Alexandre are very helpful and informative.
Modern room, <5 minute walk to nice restaurants in Mindello, or waterfront. Kawinne was outstanding as staff for check in, getting you situated, and guidance on anything Mindelo. The building is cute, looks nicer than Booking pics on inside. They will set you up for airport cab/transport.
Great studio apartment located in a central area of Mindelo. Close to restaurants and bars with live music. Easy check in and check out, and available to leave your bags if your flight is after the check out. The host gave us suggestions and was always easy to communicate. Recommend it.
I like this hotel for so many good reasons, reasons like the hotel is very wide a lot to outdoor spaces the room are big and apart from each others which is good for privacy the food is good drinks and my whole experience here has been great the best in mindelo without a doubt.
Excellent, comfortable and cosy hotel. All major sites and the beach are within walking distance. The staff were very nice and welcoming throughout our stay. The jacuzzi on the rooftop at the bar are a major plus. Nice way to enjoy Mindelo weather in a relaxing way.
Really large with an appealing and genuine aesthetic. We actually liked the location for being just a little out of the way and above things. The roof terrace is great, Getting around was easy enough with Mindelo's cheap taxis up hill, and nice walks downhill.
Nice hotel in historic building on a quiet street between town center and the beach. Owners are wonderful people that will give you useful information on current events in town and more. Nice, helpful staff. Very good breakfast.
Casa Djedja is an excellent lodging option in the heart of Mindelo. The staff are truly wonderful and welcoming. The breakfast was the best in São Vicente. The location allows for ease of walking to all major points in the city.
