A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalised in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.
Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.
Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheatre which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theatre whose remains are partly beneath a house.
The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which offer cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laidback and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.
Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.

A stunning historic city with beautiful piazzas, squares and monuments. Was very crowded in April so I imagine would be hard to navigate in high summer, as a lot of the streets are very narrow. Public transport isn't great, just local buses which are cheap (1.50e a ticket) but difficult to figure out. Castel San Pietro was a highlight, with stunning view across the city and a good value funicular (only 3.00e).
Also, the Arena was only 3.00e to access when we were there because it was partly under renovation. This was excellent value for what is a truly amazing ancient Roman site.

This is a very busy city, a major tourist site, but is absolutely jam packed with history, amazing buildings, fantastic restaurants and as much shopping as you could wish for. Because of the connection to Romeo and Juliet you will find an over abundance of reference and souvenirs but hey ho. A good 3 to 4 day break to get it all in without rushing. One tip, hold on tight if you use a taxi!

If like me , you are covering a number of destinations over a short period of time, then a day in Verona is enough unless you have specific things in mind which require more time. Of course if you just want to just chill out and take it easy, then Verona is your destination! It is a slow and dreamy city and has something to offer everyone, be it sightseeing, food or shopping.
As a vegetarian, my favourite place to eat was Ravioleria Ging Castelvechhio at Corso Castelvecchio 3, Verona. Their vegetarian bao buns were freshly made, piping hot and very delicious! Excellent value for money!

We went to Verona in early March and liked the fact it wasn't crazy crowded. It's a beautiful city with lots of hidden gems. I was only able to spend one night but 2 or 3 would have been better.

Obviously very popular with tourists but for us it was not about doing the usual tourist things but just walking the streets, finding places to eat away from the main tourist hub and just taking in the atmosphere of the place...its really a great place to just hangout!

Verona is a beautiful Italian city.
Verona is a beautiful Italian city. This was my second trip and I fell in love with it all over again. It is quite small, so two to three days would be perfect. We stayed right in the heart of the old town, on Via Leoncino, which is a short walk from the delightful Piazza Bra and the Arena. Almost everything is within walking distance, and I particularly loved sitting at one of the many outdoor cafes in Piazza Bra with my aperitivo, just watching the world go by! The city is full of wonderful cafes and restaurants - the problem is 'which one to choose' but one of our top recommendations is La Taverna Di Via Stella (on Via Stella), a short walk from another delightful square, Piazza delle Erbe, where we had a wonderful meal on our last night in Verona.
Very close to the train station. Well maintained and renovated facilities. Friendly staff. Google Maps might show a long and incorrect walk route from the station. When you get out of the station, just go to the far left of the sidewalks towards the hotel. There are both stairs and wheel chair accessible ramps towards the hotel. The bus station in front of the station is really good for travellers. The 10 Euro day pass covers the whole Verona, Garda Lake and the airport shuttle for the next day (even after the day pass expires at midnight).
Wonderful welcome and hospitality from the general manager, Alessandro. The rooms were beautiful and the views were out of this world! We were very fortunate to stay in the top suite with both bath and balcony overlooking Verona. We could not have found a more romantic hotel. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice and presented beautifully. It is a very small boutique hotel, so it felt like a home rather than a hotel. We had 2 bikes which the manager kindly let us store in his garage.
This boutique hotel room overlooks a major square in Verona called the Piazza delle Erbe. You can lean out the window and feel the vibrant hum of the square, with restaurants, and vendors and people enjoying the evening air. However, the very thick window assures a good quite sleep at night in a comfy bed. I book rooms based on historical quality and location. This was a 10 on both fronts. I would book again.
Everything about this apartment is exceptional! The location could not have been better! The apartment itself was beautiful, spacious and very clean. Our amazing host Elisa made everything so easy! The apartment is definitely the standard of a 5 star hotel. We were so happy we chose to stay here and have recommended it to all our friends that are planning a visit to Verona.
The Palazzo Monga Boutique was an excellent hotel for our wonderful stay in beautiful Verona. It is centrally located with stunning suits and the staff were outstanding with their service and friendliness to any request or advice we required.
Our main point of contact was with Arthur and we were beyond pleased with his assistance.
Thank you.
Very nice, cosy hotel in the heart of Verona. This is small boutique hotel, reception is not available 27/7, so better to contact hotel if you want to check-in after 17:00

Room is new and clean bed and matrass are are comfortable this is seldom in Italy Hotels and special for 3 star hotel , of course great location near by Train Station and Verona Arena , breakfast can be better but is ok f
