Starry Nights cabin fever, hotel in Waikino

Situated in the historic village of Waikino, Starry Nights cabin fever boasts rooms with a patio offering mountain and garden views.

Beautiful spot, out of the main town and tucked away so lovely and quiet! The hobbit cabin was gorgeous and very cosy. The host was so friendly and checked in if we needed anything else. Bathroom and shower were outside but very well kept. With a clear night there is an amazing view of the stars as well. Highly recommend staying here!

Favourite place to eat was the Talisman Cafe which is open to all, the gardens are so beautiful. The Waikino Pub has great beers and food suitable for vegetarians and they have takeout too. The Victoria Battery Tramway & Museum is a must if you are into the history of the place, again open to all. At the moment if you are using the Rail Trail, the path between the George swing bridge and the Railway Tunnel bridge is not open to cyclists, so you have to use the tunnel

We enjoyed exploring the natural waterfalls and travelling along the Karangahake Gorge seeing a bit of our local history from mining tunnels to the remains of iron ore factories. Some waterfalls are on your doorstep others require a bit bit of a hike but well worth the effort

    Owharoa Falls - swim here!

Owharoa Falls - swim here! Waikino Station Cafe - nice bacon and egg flan - yum. Came back for another the next day! Lots on offer here t eat and drink - worth a look, even if you don't take the train - you can snack while at a table on the platform! They said they hire bikes out - but we didn't get the chance - it would be something I would like to do. Karanghake Gorge - very worth the longer walk. Do it if you can.
