Stunning stalactites and stalagmite formations. A huge cave.

Stunning stalactites and stalagmite formations. A huge cave. The tour guide was well spoken and clear and sung beautifully to demonstrate the acoustics. Very clean and spacious walking areas, well supported stairs. Much bigger than imagined. The glow worms were so pretty it was like a stary night sky in the outback. Priceless experience.

    Glowworms good.

Glowworms good. Cave formations underwhelming compared to Tasmania and not value for money, tour guides were excellent though. Village pub and restaurant food was just average but staff were friendly and professional.

We did the Waitomo Cave boat tour in the evening before...

We did the Waitomo Cave boat tour in the evening before dinner and the Ruakuri Cave tour the next morning. They both were stunning. Guides were friendly and informative. We heard from another couple on the second tour that they had done several other caves and an exciting adventure (the Abyss if I remember correctly). I want to do that next time.

The caves are fantastic and well worth seeing.

The caves are fantastic and well worth seeing. Harrison was a great tour guide (and has a good singing voice too) The pathway through is well paved and there are a few sets of steps, but they do have good handrails. People say that once you've seen glow worms you've seen them all, but you can't quite beat the sheer number of them as you go through the caves on the boat. If you can avoid the noisy people who can't be quiet when they've been asked to and then don't know what comes next because they weren't listening, this will enhance your trip.

We just did the one cave.

We just did the one cave. I would recommend doing the main caves and the Ruatara as well. If you are young and up for it, add the black water rafting. Oh and don’t forget the night time walk of Ruatara - see Lonely Planet.

Everything was wonderful! The view from our cabin was stunning. The cabin had everything we needed, even stocked with supplies for breakfast. Angus was so kind to show us around and give us recommendations. Te Tiro is not just a place to stay, it’s an experience!! We can’t stop raving about how cool it was. If you’re going to Waitomo Caves, staying here is a must!

Great atmosphere, friendly owner always joking around, beautiful surroundings (farm), clean showers and kitchen, option to buy items for dinner/breakfast, and lots of communal space (inside & out!) with couches, benches and games, books... For those arriving with InterCity Bus: they're willing to pick you up, just call ahead if you don't feel like walking.

Angus was exceptional with his customer service ( this even trumped some 5 star hotels in Wellington) the accommodation was amazing with views people pay to see, plus at night the little glow worm hide away was just magic. The breakfast provided was well presented and more than we expected. Thanks for the exectial stay we highly recommend this stay.

Helen and John were such lovely hosts, who made our stay really comfortable. They even let us borrow some towels and shower gel to take for our cave adventure, which was really handy! Location was great for visiting Waitomo Caves, and was a really peaceful spot. Breakfast options were lovely, and we got to sample some jam and honey too.

Location is its main plus, being as close as one can stay to the glow worm caves. Our room was clean and the overall facility is inviting. Our host/hostess were pleasant and the continental breakfast was what one would expect. It was nice to be able to walk out onto a balcony directly from our room.

Fabulous location. Shame we arrived late and left early. Would have been good to arrive Friday in time to see glow worms in the nearby forest. Very comfortable room. Good breakfast. Lots lovely bush walks nearby and of course the caves. Very friendly and helpful hosts.

Inn was very casual. Beautiful views. Ben, the Inn cat, made himself at home in our room. Breakfast was lots of fun with George, the Innkeeper, detailing different honeys and breakfast spreads. Staff was super nice.

Such a beautiful property, woke up for a spectacular sunrise with the farm animals, birds, and landscape. I wish we stayed a couple days longer to enjoy the nearby hikes suggested in the room. Breakfast was awesome!

A novelty experience that's quite unique to be in your very own Hobbit house. As per website photos. Love the concept and would recommend others trying the experience. Waitomo Caves are a short drive away.
