The room was comfortable, the microwave was on the blink, no utensils to butter toast, no spoon for coffee. It did the job, had a comfy bed and cold air-conditioning

The 2 bedrooms were great and exactly what we were after.
Great place to stay.
Not far from our accomadation we had great restaurants. Vietnamese/ Thai/Greek/ Italian and Indian all on one intersection and a German Bavarian 500 mtr walk as well.
The river walk is great and we bicycled the 20km bike track along main beach and the river.

We didn’t stay in Mackay, but chose to stay at the Dolphin Heads Resort about 10kms out of Mackay. A very picturesque beach, there is an amazing old pub on the headland with the most beautiful view. We had dinner at the Resort Restaurant, and a very comfortable, quiet and enjoyable one night stay at the Resort. Well priced and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We will indeed stay there again and recommend this place to all.

We didn't plan to stay at Mackay, it was the final stop of our road trip and that's where the airport was. Airport only 10 minutes' drive from centre of Mackay, where we stayed in a motel. Plenty of restaurants nearby. The Lagoon area is lovely and very quiet on a weekday when we were there. We walked the Lagoon trail which was pleasant but much longer than anticipated as not very clear signing after you had reached the bridge over the Pioneer River. We should have just taken Sydney Rd back to town but ended up along the river and at the ocean at Iluka Park. Then another 2km into town. Great shopping centre in middle of town. We visited Cape Hillsborough and stayed three nights as it was so awesome. Trails to walk, great beach, wildlife. We saw a goanna, lots of birds, smaller skinks and of course the kangaroos at dawn. Visited Sarina Sugar Shed, which was very interesting after passing all the cane fields.

On checking in, we were given a room on level 1, with no view. The street noise was almost unbearable. We requested a change and the staff kindly moved us to a river facing room. The view was lovely, but to be honest this accommodation is sold as river frontage. It is in actual fact a block away from the River with large buildings obscuring the view. The location is perfectly central though with great accessibility to shopping. We recommend that upon booking your accommodation, to ensure what type of room you will be placed into.

I did visit a beach don't know it's name.
I did visit a beach don't know it's name. Very clean and appealing lots of trees and some birds. It was low tide and sand which I walked out on right out into the ocean. The place was busy for a city but you can get around reasonably easy. Been here before. Marina great to see. Biotanic gardens worth seeing. City centre nice to walk around. Worth coming here for a look.

Beautiful city it would be a must to have a car to get around as it very spread out or be comfortable on public transport however then you would miss out on some great beaches or lookouts a car is highly recommended.
The location is literally across from the airport (closer than the airport car park). Despite this, it was very quiet with no noise from planes leaving/arriving. The room was small but new/renovated with most amenities required - bed/ high and low pillows/ extra blanket/ ironing board/ closet/ standard pot and coffee/tea. Bathroom was small but clean with towels/ shampoo/ body wash. Parking is not covered but free and secure behind boom gates (open with hotel card key).
The location was incredibly convenient, from Mackay CBD to my bed within 5 minutes, no mucking around with elevators. The beds were fantastic. The fridge was a great size. and stocked with water and soda water. The coffee machine... WOW. Such a good coffee from that little machine. The supplies for breakfast were pretty good... but that coffee!
Rooms were large enough for a family traveling with four young kids.
Staff were friendly, and welcoming. Great advice for the Thai food, Ban Na was a great restaurant, and would highly recommend this.
Location of the hotel was great and had easy to see and recognise signage.
The pressure of the hot water and shower was perfect in our room.
absolutely love this property. the owners are so nice, welcoming you to the hotel, remembering your name and having a chat. we have stayed here 4 times now and will always stay here when we are travelling through Mackay. clean rooms, quiet, breakfast included is great. such a wonderful place to stay, great value.
Due to a change of plans we needed accommodation in Mackay at short notice.
Really appreciate how helpful and welcoming the manager was and the lovely cooled room we were given. The room was clean, it had everything we needed and was very comfortable.
Clean, large room in a good location close to Mackay City. Ideal for a few days stay. Handy to have a washing machine in the room. Large bathroom and comfy beds. Meals available at the pub next door. Even though was busy it was not noisy.
The Alara is my favourite place to stay in Mackay. The rooms are always clean, neat and tidy. The staff at the front desk are always so welcoming. And the restaurant attached to the hotel is amazing! Cannot recommend this hotel enough
Don’t expect a lot, but it IS cheap and great value for money. Basic hotel. No A/c in room - fan only, but adequate. Fridge/TV/toaster/coffee making provided. Old style pub with broad verandahs. Reasonable location near city centre.
Property is clean and comfortable, good air condition. Has large tvs with Netflix capabilities. Great location as well close to service station and shamrock hotel. Always a first choice for us when we travel through Mackay
The continental breakfast supplied at reception was above anything I was expecting, especially due to the very reasonable price. I will definitely be staying here again when I visit Mackay.
I stay here regularly, it is the best value for money hotel I have found in Mackay. Rooms are always clean & fairly modern, parking is easy & it’s in close proximity to town etc
Was pleasantly surprised have never stayed there before but will definitely be staying there next time need to stay in Mackay. So easy to access as is on left side Nebo Road
