Trier is an interesting town, however be aware all the facilities & services you might be familiar with & expecting, may not be available. Such as; taxi, Uber, restaurants open outside of regular hours - these may all be an issue, according to what we experienced.
Some of this was due to Christmas & New Years limited hours and services. Taxis and Uber-type services are an issue, and appear unreliable.

I love Roman history so Trier was a must-see for me.
I love Roman history so Trier was a must-see for me. The main tourist attractions are easily searchable online but the city is small enough to be completely walkable. I was there at the end of November and there were already Christmas markets set up which was fun to walk around - buy the Glühwein (mulled wine) if you're there at that time.
You have to eat at Weinstube Zum Domstein! They have traditional Roman food offerings which were delicious. I loved the meal so much, especially sitting in the Roman Basement (Römer Keller) where they have displayed Roman artifacts. Such a cool dining experience.

Trier is quaint and manageable for a small city.
Trier is quaint and manageable for a small city. Friendly and hospitable locals. There were enough English-speaking workers in various establishments. I enjoyed the walking trails. The city has a lot to offer for Roman history enthusiasts. It has a far reaching and interesting history as a city in its own right.
The hotel is located just in the old town, within a hundred yards or so of the Black Gate.
The rooms are clean and comfortable and the hotel offers a good breakfast.
The staff are also extremely pleasant and helpful and in our case they needed to be.
We had booked for one night, but due to a motorcycle breakdown we were stuck in Trier for over three weeks and they managed to provide accommodation, extended almost on a daily basis, for the full time.
For any other bikers out there, there is a motorcycle parking area right in front of reception.
This hotel provided modern amenities with a local feel in an excellent location. This is a fairly new facility and is located right in front of the Kornmarkt (which is a gorgeous plaza near the center of town). The rooms were spacious and everything you need is within a short walking distance. We didn't try the breakfast at the hotel (if they had one), but there were greeat restaurants and shops a plenty nearby. We visited 8 different countries and cities/towns during this trip and this area was one of the most pleasantly surprising.
This place is outstanding! Communication with the host was easy, and she was so helpful. The apartment has everything you could want and more. The welcome gifts were a very lovely touch. I loved the decor. The owner has done an amazing job of making the most out of the space. We walked to everything and easily saw everything there was to see in the historic town of Trier in two days. A third day was spent indoors due to weather, but the apartment was so cozy, it did not matter.
Friendly reception and staff. They allowed us to store some of our stuff in their fridge. We were able to park onsite for a little extra. Breakfast is optional, but a no-brainer as it is very good with a lot of choice. The hotel is near Porta Negra and from there you walk straight into the city center of Trier. If you take the (a bit steep) walk up to the Maria statue you get a wonderful view over the city which is absolutely worth it.
I have to admit that I booked this hotel by accident, as I was trying to book the Mercure Hotel Porta Nigra, because that one is on my company's approved hotel list. It turned up to be better than the one I thought I was booking, and at a lower price. So next time I will stay there again. :)
I especially liked the touch-less access to the main entrance and the room: no key, no card, just codes.
Nice hotel overlooking the river, although the rooms don't offer river view. There is a small balcony facing a courtyard. Good beds and plenty of space, also in the bathroom.
We were very happy to be able to check in early! The walk from the train station took about 30 minutes, 20 to Trier city center. The beautiful view of the Moselle when crossing the bridge is a bonus :)
Good design hotel at the bank of the Moselle. Closeby the center of Trier (15 minutes walk). Nicely decorated rooms (not all apparently are renovated already I read) and breakfast room with view on the river. Excellent shower. Good fresh breakfast. Friendly staff. Free WiFi in breakfast room and lobby. Dedicated hotel parking at the other side of the street.
We enjoyed the hotel accommodations, the friendly staff and the quality and quantity of food provided for both dinner and breakfast. We didn't use the pool or sauna but we did tour the facilities and found them to be very nice. We liked the quiet location away from central Trier but yet still found it easy to get downtown by car.
It was pleasant room, nicely furnished. The location is perfect, only few minutes from the city center pedestrian zone and Porta Nigra. There was coffee and tea available in the small kitchen. The landlady was nice and recommended good restaurants near hotel. We would definitely use it again, should be travel to Trier in future.
Everything was so superlux!! I really-really love Hotel Villa Hügel - it is so pretty, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was sooo good and there was lots of food options, staff is so friendly and helpful all the time! And the view - there is no enough words to describe how beautiful it is!!! Cannot wait to come back soon! :) (L)
The apartment is few metres away from the city centre and many shops within close vicinity. The apartment was very compact and had the basic things needed to stay comforatbly. It felt like staying in a hotel but with self catering. We enjoyed our stay in Trier. Thanks to the host who always respond to my questions on time.
The hotel is situated just on the south side of the old city of Trier, and everything in the old city is easily within walking distance. The room was very nicely arranged, and the staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, and well worth the cost. Hotel room was very clean and quiet.
A very fair priced, small boutique hotel,at the center of the city of Trier, clean, warm, with very good and polite personnel and room service the only negative point is that has no parking space .A must for young people couples or small budget travellers .Wish to come back soon.wir werden wieder sehen.
The location was amazing. Everything super close by to city center. Hotel reception closes 19:30 PM but staff was nice to accommodate late self check in and made all the arrangements beforehand. Onsite parking was decently priced.
This is an amazing hotel offering great value for money! Free bikes to hire which means you can whizz all over Trier. The hotel also offers free darts, table football and pool. Cheap and convenient parking. Would 10/10 recommend.
We enjoyed our stay in Trier very much, and the comfortable hotel, with excellent facilities and close to the Old Town and train station, contributed greatly to this.
Good location, helpful staff and very clean room. Just few minutes walk to Porta Nigra and Trier’s Dom.
Good breakfast with reasonable price. Absolutely recommend.
The breakfast served was good: there was sufficient variety of food. The rooms had plenty of space. It was a 10 minute walk to the center of Trier, which was nice.
