Zell am See is a town on the route of the Transalpin train.
Zell am See is a town on the route of the Transalpin train. We stayed for one night before our journey across the alps to Zurich. If you don't ski, there is little to do in town when it's cold outside besides a stroll along the beautiful lake and a visit to shops and restaurants. One 24-hour period was enough for us to see and do everything. The location of the train station made this a very easy place to visit.

Zell am See didn't have the quaint alps village feel at all, more like a regular large town, the high street was very disappointing.
The scenery of the lake and mountains was breath taking. Simply beautiful.
Snow for skiing in Feb 24 was absolutely awful given the low altitude! A lot of mud patches on the lower runs rendering them unusable. I would consider elsewhere for skiing option tbh. The ski resort was small and good for beginners/families primarily.
I felt very safe walking around the town.

We loved Zell am See.
We loved Zell am See. From the ease of getting here (the train from Salzburg is clean, quick and on time), to the scenery, beautiful town and great people. Everyone was pleasant to deal with, the facilities are excellent (although watch out for the supermarkets closing early compared to the UK) and the skiing is brilliant. Lift queues were generally short. However, as expected, everything is expensive!

What I like the most: Friendly staff, free use of washing machine and dryer at the lobby, underground garage, spacious living room and fully equipped kitchen, near the lake for a leisure walk and near to town and near to a lot of ski lifts and cable car to Schmittenhöhe
What I don like: nothing. Just be sure not to have a late check in so that you can seek for help before the reception close

Zell am See is truly beautiful.
Zell am See is truly beautiful. We had an amazing week of skiing with an excellent ski guide (Thomas Hager, https://www.alpin-guide.com/eng/), who added so much to our ski holiday experience. The town of Zell am See has an array of great restaurants, bars and shops. We travelled over the Christmas period and the place was festive with lots of Christmas spirit in the air! We would highly recommend a trip to Zell am See.

Zell am See is a proper small town with a lovely pedestrian zone and not just a ski resort. It is located on one side of a beautiful lake, surrounded by mountains. There's a good choice of places to eat and drink and I particularly like the Gin House and Steinerwirt. I get the sense it's quite a good place for a mixed group of those who ski/snowboard and those who don't, but it's particularly good for skiers as there are several lift options from and around the town, so wherever you stay you'll probably be close to one of the base lifts. Accommodation on the hill just above the town will have great views and, provided you leave your equipment at a base station or have a car, the walk is quite pleasant.
We had a great break in Zell Am See and the hotel Gruner Baum was the perfect base for us to explore the stunning views of the surrounding area. Everything about the hotel was fantastic, we stayed in room 140 which was modern, clean and extremely comfortable with a great view from the balcony. The breakfast was exceptional and catered for all nationalities, every member of staff was friendly and helpful and the little bar in the 2nd building was a great place for an evening drink with a lively atmosphere and welcoming young barman
Was a proper hotel with all facilities. Cleaning and arranging the room every day. Buffet breakfast and dinner if you choose for it. Good food options for both. Ski rental place included, kids ski school represented next to reception very convenient to arrange it. Located next to gondolas taking you up till 1900m out of max 2000m. Also the ski school taking place in same area even closer to hotel. I consider this a bit better than locations in Zell am See center.
Hotel was warm, very clean, sauna was great, breakfast and dinner offered a decent variety of food, staff at the restaurant were very friendly and welcoming. Supermarket just next door was very convenient. Big advantage was the ski rent facility inside the hotel itself, with very competitive prices and a very friendly, patient and kind mister from Australia managing the facility who is one of the reasons we might consider coming back next year again 🙂
Location was 10 walking minutes from the center, so very quite but still convenient. Breakfast was good. A bit of variation could have improved the quality to excellent. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
What I liked a lot: We went skiing for the entire last day after checking out and were still entitled to use the hotel shuttle service to the lift in the late afternoon to come back, get our luggage and wait in the lobby for a taxi.
-location is really great and near the lake(5 mins) with competitive price especially u will got the Zell Am see card along with ur stay
-room clean and cosy
-staff are so welcoming and cooperative ( Lila and Careen you are the best )
-they welcome you with smile and chocolate present upon arrival
big thanks to Careen and Lila you have shown the value of ur country and hotel
I love the view of the room and have really enjoyed the stay to the max. Suits size are very big and comfortable. You can walk to the down town or you may use the parking public parking near down down Zell am see. Also they have given us a sell am see card which was really helpful with the map. So most of the activity were free to ride.
Perfect location for Ironman Zell am See - maybe the closest 'nice' hotel to the swim start and transition zone. Excellent breakfast buffet loaded for options. Nice and large free parking lot. Very kind hotel staff and reception. You can take your bike up to your room. I cannot say anything negative with the experience.
everything was perfect. staff at the reception, as well as the waiter at the bar. I still have to highlight the relaxation center with sauna. also the price was very friendly. I recommend the quiet hotel to everyone and when I travel to Zell am See again I will see you again.
We loved and enjoyed our stay with our 2 kids. The room was comfy and size ideal for 4 people. Glad we have decided to book your hotel as it made our stay in Zell am See much nicer. The food was nice. I would love to point out the receptionist, super helpful and super nice!
The location was great. Centrally located and we could walk everywhere we needed including the train station, ski rental, lifts, and buses. Had all the ski amenities with a boot room. We luckily were able to check in early after taking a night train to Zell am See.
the staff were super friendly and nice.
there was a bidet water sprayer which is not always available in Europe hotels/apartments.
the apartment is super clean and specious and bed is comfortable.
breakfast was acceptable, more selection will be great.
Amazing location. Very close to CityExpress lift. Our rooms were cleaned every day. Friendly staff. Big ski room. Table tennis. Hint for the visitors: When you come back you can slide down from the slope (#7) right to your the door of your apartments.
"Gaby" the hotel staff is super nice. The room is clean. The breakfast is dillicious. The hotel is in a very good location and have a nice view. Highly recommend to choose this hotel for staying in Zell am see.
