Very busy around Minakshi temple.
Very busy around Minakshi temple. We visited during late March 2024 and day time temperatures were around 35°-39° C , the Thirumalai Nayak Palace was going through massive renovation and so 75% of the area was not accessible. Ghandhi Memorial was also being renovated. So was the area near Vandiyur lake and gardens, So in 2024 avoid these places.

I booked 5 nights but 3 was enough to visit local sights.
I booked 5 nights but 3 was enough to visit local sights. I stayed at a hotel walking distance from the station and it also proved walking distance from the meenakshi temple (west gate). Check out the Jain temple on the approach to the west gate. I’d recommend taking socks for the temple visit as shoes are not allowed and the stone floors can get quite hot. Highly recommend touring the outside of the temple for great photos as not cameras are allowed inside, but some shops will allow photos from their rooftops in the hope of a purchase. Beggars are persistent as are street sellers. Thirumalai nayakkar Mahal is well worth a visit - I used google maps to get around and on route to this beautiful building I came across a super shop (AK. Ahamed) for clothes etc - something I would have missed had I taken a ride. I found clothes, food and local travel cheaper than many other cities. I viewed other recommendations for places to eat but I did find it difficult to get the message across about “non-spicy” as it seems many of the sauces come pre-prepped.

Disappointed by our time here: temples are great, but Madurai let down in comparison to other cities in Tamil Nadu by dirty streets and poor roads, overly greedy auto drivers (again far worse than in other Indian cities!). Would not choose to visit again

If you are a person with faith , must visit place only for temple . City like many other cities in India are chaotic and disorderly. Not a customer service oriented atmosphere . Stick with the objective of faith relevant places , don't let people behavior concern you too much .

Maduraï is a big, busy, noisy, polluted city, as it is I guess, everywhere in India, now that people can afford motorbikes and cars.
But the Temple and the Palace too, are worth seing, and, moroever, they are quiet places. I would advise to find a good hotel a bit off town, to rest peacefully.

Madurai is a great place to visit the divine Meenakshi Temple. You can also visit Madurai to shop the Madurai Silk/ handloom sarees/ handicrafts. Madurai also has some great food options for Veg and non-veg lovers. Madurai is also a great Enroute destination for Rameshwaram.
The room was booked and confirmed but then on the day of booking the room was canceled. I was on the way with my family, I called the hotel to see if everything is ready, but at that time they mentioned that room is not available. It was at night 10:30 pm, I was standing at Madurai Station with my family without any place to go. There was no room available on any of the online websites and no one was helping. The language was also a barrier.

I will 100% Going to consumer Court Against this hotel sorry to say that Booking.com Also party for court case
The staff waited up until 2am to let us check-in after a long train, this was really great.
The hotel is incredibly well located. Less than 5 minutes walk from the train station, and right in the centre of Madurai so you can walk to the main attractions in just a few minutes.
If you're having a quick stop in Madurai and just need somewhere to sleep, this is a great spot.
The property is new and clean. The shower works very well. Probably the best thing about the hotel is the way the staff is willing to help and communicate. They made sure a taxi to airport was there on the right time, and they We were allowed to leave out bags in the room after checkout time so we could freshen up before our flight and after sightseeing in madurai.
Love this colonial, yet modern hotel. Dining room staff, are attentive with good memories of personal preferences. The food is very good. The room located with a decent view of the pool, was well stocked with amenities. Morning room service coffee was timely and tasty. A wonderful stay as usual. Thank you. The peacocks even performed in all their glory.
The room was perfectly sized for a solo traveller, very clean, safe and nicely equipped with all necessities. The staff was very polite and helpful, alsogave me good suggestions on how to go about sightseeing in Madurai. Location is the key here, walking distance from station, Meenakshi Temple and the best shopping lanes. Would totally recommend this stay :)
The people in hotel are very friendly and welcoming. They make you feel like family and are very helpful with any needs. They also suggested amazing restaurants in a walkable distance. And sweetly offered and bought the famous Madurai Jigarthanda for my mother.
Lovely place for a quick stay. Definitely recommended
The hotel is unlike any other. It is a fine blend of nature and good facilities. My family liked it very much. The peacocks, trees, well maintained garden and spacious rooms were the highlights. Staff led by Mr. Siddharth was extremely courteous and helpful. Definitely a great choice at Madurai.
Location was convenient as it was close to the city centre and the best part was, we booked their hotel taxi to the airport for a fixed steep rate of 1350! But the driver and car were both excellent and we reached the airport in little time with ease!!
location of hotel is very near to all tourist places in Madurai . Room is very neat and clean. Breakfast is very good with lot of verities. Hotel staffs are doing their best in every aspect . Overall a very good hotel and value for money
Just ok. Budget hotel. Small rooms for family; we could barely accommodate 2 adults and 2 kids. Good for youngsters. I am sure there are places in Madurai similar to this with lower rates; explore those. Tea was excellent.
Welcome and departure services were excellent
Very Friendly staff- special thanks to Mr. John and Miss Monika at the restaurant. Ms. Mahalaxmi made the best coffee and tea - we enjoyed our stay at the hotel.
The hotel is situated close to the Meenakshi Amma Temple and the main market of Madurai city. The hotel staff was friendly during our stay, but one of the managers overcharged us for in-room services.
Service is very good. Room (not dorm) is clean and comfortable. Hotel helps me arrange a car to Madurai airport at early morning. And you can meet other backpackers here.
Staffs are very friendly and attentive. Food is excellent well presented. Now we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere other than Hotel Courtyard Marriott Madurai.
