Our 2nd stay here and we love it. Food is excellent. We need the accessibility of a garden room, but (in room 28) the hot weather meant the room was very stuffy, and cramped, and as there seemed no ventilation in the bathroom, leaving the door open added to the overall humidity. We were both exhausted, but very content to spend hours in the hotel's lovely private garden overlooking the canal. Everyone most friendly and attentive.
A small family hotel with five rooms with shower, toilet and small kitchen in the picturesque old city of Edam. There is also a studio with two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room.

Kaes and Brian were so lovely. They took care of us very well on our stay.
Hotel Spaander is located in a prime position in Volendam on the banks of the Lake Markermeer. This historical hotel dating back to 1881 has a truly authentic Dutch feel to it.

Edam is a lovely village and great base for visiting Amsterdam, especially for families. There’s not a lot to do in Edam itself, but it’s really pretty and all the people we met were very friendly. There’s a lovely sweet shop too, and the owner gave our kids a free treat each.

Edam is a great little village.
Edam is a great little village. The cheese market is a must see. Get there a little early to get a front row seat, maybe 15 minutes before it opens. The canals are great and I recommend hiring a boat to do a one hour self guided tour. There are only a few restaurants in the town. We went to Volendam for food which was great. It is a bit hard to get to and even harder to get back. No Ubers available in the evening and all the taxi companies were not even picking up the phone. We eventually were able to find a bus to get back.

With bus 314 from Amsterdam central station you’ll get to Edam in 30 minutes which you won’t even notice because you will be so busy looking at the amazing landscape of green grass fields canals farms typical Dutch houses. Edam and Volendam are very small and quiet places but there are lots of nice restaurants/pubs with live music, nice atmosphere, nice food. The shops close at 5 pm, around 6 everyone is having dinner. You get straight away the feeling of the countryside town where everything is more relaxed and people take it easy. If you are into nature you will be taken away by the bike/foot path to Volendam (3/4 km): it’s stunning! In Volendam you will walk the shopping street with amazing souvenirs on sale and at the end of the pedestrian path (marina park) you’ll find the bus stop for the return.
Get a nord Holland map and check out the rest of the region.
It’s unbelievable that these quality towns are just 15 km away from Amsterdam but the scenery changes radically. You get the best of both worlds in less than an hour travel!

Really good musical instrument shop selling hundreds of stringed instruments and accordeons. Excellent food in two very good restaurants - Strandbad and Juliana at reasonable prices. Expected cheese choice. Streets are very narrow and one way system is necessarily intricate because of canals. Cobbles make buggy-pushing hard work. House wines are good, but specialist wines vary expensive.

Edam is a beautiful small village/small city with a very nice view everywhere you go.
We enjoy our walk in the calm streets and beautiful houses around the hotel, not to mention the local cheese shop and other tourists attractions.
A very nice place to visit.
Location was excellent . A good walk (3 km) to the busier Volendam and the walk along the water. Local shops nearby were worth visiting for cheese, chocolate, souvenirs, etc.. Ample outdoor seating adjacent to the canal on the hotel property. Rooms were elaborately decorated in the romantic style. Service was generally good - one waitress was outstanding. Restaurant was good. Beware if you order the appetizer platter - it's huge, plenty for two or three.
Our stay at Suzane's and John's was absolutely amazing. Their home is nestled in the picturesque and peaceful village of Edam, just a short 10-minute walk from the bus station. Upon our arrival, Suzanne and John greeted us with a delicious pumpkin soup. The house was impeccably clean, and the bedrooms provided a cozy and comfortable retreat. Additionally, their home is beautifully decorated, adding a special touch to the overall experience.
The rooms are above a bar/cafe which was very cosy. We arrived on Sunday afternoon when a band was about to play and we enjoyed the concert and had a nice time talking to the band and other guests.
The room has cooking facilities if you want to make a meal. The room was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed breakfast in the bar. The hotel is very close to Edam centre which is lovely.
I have stayed at this hotel many times before to visit family and friends. The decor in the restaurant and rooms is beautiful and the beds extremely comfortable. We ate in the hotel and the food was delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is easily accessible , 20 minutes on the bus from Amsterdam .
The property is beautiful and clean, with a beautiful view and have all necessities you could need during a stay there. The bed is also really comfy, we had a great night sleep there. The hosts are super welcoming and nice! We would definitely come back to explore Edam and surroundings a bit more. :)
Beautiful, spacious and well designed old house in the very heart of old Edam. The place has all of the necessary facilities and the beds are comfortable too. Tge hosts were very friendly. The nearby located cheese store sells very nice authenric cheese. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
we really liked the location, along a canal, close a castle, fishing villages and Amsterdam. Great for day trips. The staff is great, patio fun, food excellent. Great stores and restaurants close by. The building is very, very old, renovated into a hotel and well maintained and decorated.
The bed, the beer, the burger and the breakfast were all great.
This hotel was a delightful surprise.
The rooms are well laid out and every room has a fridge, sink and stove. Helpful staff.
We found parking about a block away on a Friday night.
Highly recommend.
The staff was very friendly. Our return flight was cancelled so we needed to stay an extra night. The hotel allowd us to stay longer in the room we were in, despite they had not accepted any reservations due to Christmas closure.
The view of the hotel and around is very beautiful.
It is convenient to drive from Amsterdam with bus to the hotel.
The price is very fair compared to hotels in Amsterdam.
Room was very clean.
Really nice garden! House is close to Volendam & Edam and the view from the room on the topfloor is amazing. Breakfast was nice and we can choose between several sandwiches
Great, kind and informative people run this B&B. Good breakfast, Dutch style. Good location between Edam and Volendam. Close to great restaurants. Beautiful area.
Great place. Very close to Valendam and Edam- nice walking trip. Silente and calm place near Amsterdam. Rooms clean, and nice. Beautiful house. The owner helpfull.
Perfect find in Edam, 30min by bus to Amsterdam, close to Volendam and Monickendam. Lovely people, very helpful and accommodating :) Breakfast was great too!
Breakfast was plentiful and excellent. Care and attention was given to preparation. The location was very handy for buses and Edam was a 10 minute walk away.
