The stores and restaurants in the train station were good.
The stores and restaurants in the train station were good. There is the famous Kiriko cut glass factory and gift shop, Senganen Gardens and an excellent restaurant with a view of the volcano, Yamakataya department store, and the people in Kagoshima are very helpful and friendly. Every time I go to Japan I go to Kagoshima now. It also has hot springs. It is easy to catch the bus and tram cars that come often to get around.

We liked the nearby shops, the closeness to ferry and trainstation with Shinkansen accessibility. We found a lot of different style restaurants nearby.
In our experience was 1 Queen-bed too small for 2 european people.
The free space allowed us to only open 1 suitcase at a time.

Fascinating, lively city, interesting surroundings, very approachable people. Good food, too. Public transport is well-organised and affordable, and easy to navigate. Sakurajima's brooding, smoke-spewing presence provides the city with a unique atmosphere. I recommend the Kagoshima Brands store for souvenirs and omiyage (9-1 Meizanchō, Kagoshima). And don't miss Sengenan on any account!

Kagoshima is a city with a large volcano in its back yard.
Kagoshima is a city with a large volcano in its back yard. It make for a different kind of vibe. It is also a port city with many ferries, mostly going south to the little island atchepelago that ends in Okinawa. Warmer weather than most of Japan but still pretty chill in January. Nice people, I found them friendly. I like the place.

Sakurajima ,Senganen, Siroyama, Tenmonkan, and so on. Famous sight seeing spots, I recommend you. And local foods, such as satsumaage, black pig, karukanmanjyu, kibinago, you had better try them.

The rural areas of southern Kagoshima are very different from the rest of Japan, with not so huge mountains and very spacious land. It gives a very nice and different vibe seeing all those flat farmlands spread along the see, with a backdrop of volcanoes and hot springs. There are also some good hiking spots. Especially, Yakushima is a paradise for hikers with its deep, pristine and quite untouched forests and streams.
Excellent location with the airport bus stop right beneath the building and Kagoshimachuo station and city tram stops just across the road. The underground passageway leading to the station had many small eateries and there were many shops in Amu Plaza across the road from the hotel. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was of good size and the facilities were clean. You can see Sakurajima in the lobby.
Room space is just right for a solo traveler. I especially like the large bathroom and enjoyed using its amenities.
The best thing is the hotel's location right next to the Shinkansen gate which was perfect for my early morning travels and late arrival from the airport. It is very close to AMU Plaza for shopping as well as to many restaurants. It is also very convenient for getting on taxis and trams.
The public bath was a great experience (be aware of Japanese bath rules). Room size was ok for Japan, bathroom rather small but also ok. No staff around as checkin is with machines. Area also great, right in the centre of the city, airport bus stop 50m from Hotel. Several convenient stores in the neighborhood and Donki on the other side of the streer
We loved everything about this hotel. Our room was beautiful and we were upgraded to a room with a view of the volcano. The spa was lovely. All the staff were very welcoming and polite. Shuttle bus every half hour to and from Kagoshimachuo train station and conveniently located next to a tram stop.
The customer service was amazing! My son left his wallet in a taxi and the hotel staff hinted it down from the taxi company and mailed it the same day to us in Kyoto. The onsen was very clean and warm. Rooms were large by Japanese standards and beautiful views. Would definitely stay again!
Every room has a nice view of Sakurajima (as does the public bath). This is a great location if you want a nice in-hotel onsen with good views. The bath was especially soothing after active days walking around town. We really enjoyed having hotpot at the hotel's Shichisai restaurant.
Very spacious, modern, clean and comfortable room. Location was good - a short walk from both Kagoshimachuo station and Tenmonkan. The hotel allowed us to store our luggage with them for the 3 days prior to us checking in while we were on Yakushima. Very good value for money.
Big room with a TV, really nice shower and bathroom space. It’s right in the main centre of Kagoshima and near the tram lines so it’s very convenient. The ferry port is also a short walk away. The price is reasonable but more expensive than other Grand Base hotels I’ve used.
Unfortunately I could not make the booking but my friend did. This is his comment on his stay at Hotel Lexton.
Beat all expectations, comfortable bed, great facilities, great staff and located in the centre of Kagoshima.
My friend was very happy with his stay!!
Great location for food choices and scenic walks around town. Kagoshima has a long history which can be enjoyed by walking around and learning about the statues.
Hotel room was decent size w a nice view. Bathroom and tub were a comfortable size.
location and staff are both excellent, the extra mile that staff are willing to do to help me with my luggage makes me give this hotel a 5 star. it is right at the center of Kagoshima Chuo, so easy to access from JR and shopping is so convenient
Our room was much more spacious than other hotels in Japan. The onsen/bath house was amazing with a sauna and cold plunge which we loved. The location was excellent with easy access to the station and everything we wanted to see in Kagoshima.
Location was great for restaurants and sightseeing around Kagoshima. It's convenient location along a streetcar line made it easy to access from Kagoshima-chuo Station. Hotel is also near bus stop for the Kagoshima Airport Limousine, too.
Hotel is recent, located in Tenmonkan district, very close to airport bus and in the middle between central station and Sakurajima ferry pier (both are walking distance - approx 15min).
Fabulous view of Kagoshima city and Sakurajima from the hotel. liked the outdoor Onsen facility. Shuttle bus service between hotel and train station and city centre is convenient.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful - even though there was a communication barrier. Excellent massage. Nice onzen - unusual to find in a budget hotel.
Friendly staff, clean rooms with comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Easy location to walk downtown or catch bus to airport or ferries. Nice top-floor bar.
