Niseko is the place you go when you want to travel/ski but want to feel like your still at home with all your comforts. The mountains pretty nice and not as busy as I expected in the late season.
Hirafu is stupidly over priced for accomodation and food. it's the Whistler of Japan. Lift tickets are expensive compared to most other resorts in Japan.
I only came because I had to do some training at Grand Hirafu.
I ended up staying in Kutchan for 5 of my 10 days as its more affordable and has more of an authentic Japanese feel, although you then may have to wait for buses and you'll be sacrificing the night life if thats what you're into.
Overall I would not return to Niseko unless it was a powder day and I was riding with some friends. Theres plenty of other options to choose from in my opinion.

Niseko is great for snowboarding.
Niseko is great for snowboarding. We were here for the powder and didn’t do much else. The mountain is not huge, but it is bigger than any other we have been to in Japan. The price is higher also. But you get some fun runs in and the tree areas are uncrowded. Would be great if there were more restaurants in the area that are halal or vegetarian friendly advertised on google maps. There are seasonal shuttle buses that operate in the area and the online maps and real time display of bus location is pretty good. Afuri has vegan ramen which was pretty good. Home Made Udon Goroku had vegetarian options also pretty delicious.

Hirafu (the main town around Niseko) is a vibrant ski town with lots of restaurants. I loved it. The skiing was great and so was the nightlife. You do not need a car if you stay in Hirafu. The only caution is that the town feels less Japanese and more “western,” with lots of western food and visitors from Australia, US and Europe. It felt less Japanese than I was expecting. For some visitors, that could be a plus. For others, it may be a negative.

Niseko is a very nice ski resort.
Niseko is a very nice ski resort. Everything is very well organised as in most Japanese ski resorts. The size of the ski resort and number of lifts allows to stay for a 2-3 days without feeling you rode this slope 10 times already. Connection with Niseko Village is not very convenient as you have to get quite high to move across. If you get there during peak season, book your restaurants way ahead otherwise, you will end up getting your food from the food trucks and Lawson. A mix of both will allow to manage your budget. Things are globally more expensive here than man other resorts.
We had an excellent stay at Bistare Kana and are very glad we stayed there instead of one of the much more expensive hotels while we were in Niseko. The owner and his family are very friendly and accommodating, and provide an amazing complementary breakfast every morning at 8:00. The rooms are basic, but there are nice shared amenities available, including a coin operated washer and drier. The bathrooms and showers are nice and very clean, it never felt crowded since there are only 5 or 6 guest rooms in the building. Over all excellent week!
I enjoyed my stay at The Green Leaf. Reception staff especially Marla were very helpful and friendly. Ski rental, ski equipment locker, lift tickets and ski school are all housed in an annex attached to the hotel. The hotel is ski out and ski up to the ski locker area. Ski lifts and pistes were easily accessible.
The room was a decent size for a Japanese hotel. My room had a great view of Mount Yotei.
Ski instructors at the Niseko Village were very good. Niseko Village pistes did not seem as busy as adjoining resorts like Hirafu.
The staff are among the best I’ve ever met at any place I’ve stayed at in Niseko. They would all go out of their way and do their best to accommodate you and make you feel welcome. My snowboard bag arrived much later than expected (through no fault of the lodge, it was purely Yamato Transport’s), but the staff did everything they can to get it delivered to me asap. They look after their guests as if it’s a 5-star hotel, and I truly appreciate that. The place isn’t fancy but it has everything you need. Would definitely book again.
Surrounded by awe-inspiring 360-degree views, this haven immerses you in a timeless beauty, where each moment feels frozen in time. Perfectly situated, just 7 to 8 minutes from Annupuri Kokusai Gondola and Niseko Ski Village Higashimaya, 20 minutes from Hirafu Center for dining, and 25 minutes from Kutchan Max Value for both groceries and delectable hot ramen. This winter wonderland beckons with such enchantment that one can't help but yearn to return for more. Enjoyed our conversation with Mr Wataru.
pods were an interesting experience, but very thin walls and creaky. You hear a lot. overall, bathrooms were great, laundry facilities were good, the whole stay was enjoyable. Breakfast was different. like left overs combined with eggs and sausage. coffee was not the best. cereal was available. salad was new to me for breakfast. The area of Moiwa is very far from Hirafu or niseko but if you have a car it is a great place to stay. I would stay there again.
This was my second time staying at Koropokkuru lodge and the facilities are even better than before. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the location is excellent - near Hirafu Welcome Centre, the ski lifts and convenience stores. . Plus, the couple who own the place are very friendly and helpful. I'd definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Niseko, provided they are not already fully booked! :)
Super comfortable bed and ample space for the clothes. Also we liked the communal seating area with large bay windows, we spend a lot of time there. The lodge is located on the outskirts of the village, but we actually preferred that, seeing how crowded Niseko has become. Lawsons is just across the street, and a couple of nice restaurants right next door.
I love the location! It’s walking distance from Grand Hirafu Ski Resort! The staff took care of us… they have a really good breakfast. Baked Pizza and Curry soup are one my favourites :) They have a free coffee vending machine for the guests which includes matcha latte :) We stayed in a family suite and it was big and comfortable :) the view was awesome!
The ski in ski out is definitely a huge plus point. The ski slope was just behind the hotel and we had lots of fun there! The hotel room was also spacious with a washing machine cum dryer which made it very convenient. If you need to rent ski equipments, Rhythm the ski rental company will simply pick up returns from the hotel itself.
It's a very quaint inn. Breakfast was delicious (courtesy of Dave's wife). Location is quiet. Nearest ski location is Niseko Village. There's a hotel car that can pick up at a convenient location when you get down from.the bus. View from.the hotel is beautiful. Owner Dave is responsive and can give some suggestions.
Best location for our group…a 10 minute walk to the Hirafu gondola, Rhythm rental shop, excellent restaurants and convenience stores. The living room area was perfect…comfortable seating with a stunning view. The kitchen area was excellent…large dining table accommodated family breakfasts and a cooking class.
Wonderful lodge in an amazing area, and the staff were very helpful in picking up and dropping us up from the train station, convenience store and snowy mountain. The owner Ayami is fluent in both Japanese and English which helped in doing an important phone call for me.
location for ski rentals and lifts at grand Hirafu. onsen was charming and rooms were spacious and airy. breakfast was fantastic and ski locker super convenient. shuttle bus was helpful in the snow and ice. a few French and American guests
Very central in the heart of Niseko. The building had a nice worn in feel and immediately felt like I was at a family lodge.
The breakfast included was great …..adds to the value. Parking was great as well…nice perk.
private onsen in our room and the tatami flooring design.
ski in ski out entrance with lockers to keep our snow gears was convenient.
location of the hotel is close to many amenities and restaurants
Our stay was incredibly comfortable. It is a welcoming and hospitable environment, great if you want to access niseko village as they run a shuttle there.
