The area is not bad. Beside the neighboring village there are mainly resorts and hotels in this area, so not much population and traffic like in the city. Very peaceful for proper restful vacation.
It’s very easy to get around Pingwe, with rent a car. The road to Pingwe is a little bit with holes but they were fixing them around that time. Things to do is visiting Jozani forest and natural aquarium which is very close, where you can see the monkeys and the turtles as well as the mangrove.
Paje is minutes away, where you can have a cold savana on the rooftop.

Hardly anyone had heard of Pingwe in Stone Town, they all thought I meant Pongwe. This is because it seems Pingwe is more of an up and coming area. The beaches are beautiful, it's lovely and quiet, hassle is at a minimum, there is a lovely breeze and the views are fantastic. I highly recommend Pingwe for your next trip to Zanzibar.

It's lovely on that side of the island, but not exactly a swimming beach as too many rocks and sea urchins. Paje, further down is a lovely swimming beach and popular with kite surfers. Sunset Beach, past Pingwe, is a lovely beach for swimming and watching the sunsets at the beach bar!
The resort is located up on a rock with access to the beach downstairs. Staff is genuinely nice, warm, always ready to help. Premises have been recently renovated, are very clean and well maintained. It smells of new and wood. Zanzibari style of furniture. Each room has its own terrace to enjoy sunrises and the ocean. I liked very much their location on Dongwe beach - not far from the “blue lagoon”. The Rock restaurant can be reached by foot in about 40 minutes if walking along the beach on low tides.
This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. All of the staff are extremely warm and friendly, and they provided services that far exceeded our expectations. Jacqueline at the front desk helped us book all of our activities, gardener Jonny took us on a tour of the gardens, the Chef helped us cook the fish we caught ourselves, and the restaurant servers would open fresh coconuts for us... We will definitely return, for the beautiful and captivating sea of Paje, as well as the lovely Hekaya.
Great location of the hotel near Paje and Pongwe! Breakfast and dinner were both delicious and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The bar staff at the beach were super friendly and made us great cocktails each night! We also learnt Swahili language from the restaurant staff which was great to learn the zanzibar local language! Great excursions can be organised through the reception to see Prison Island giant tortoise, Stone Town culture or snorkelling on one of the many paradise beaches.
- The hotel was not crowded and we could really relax there,
- Hotel Staff, hospitality (manager Ali was great) and general 'Zanzibar' climate,
- Very spacious villa which was perfect for 4 people, each couple had a separate bedroom and bathroom (very rare on Zanzibar),
- Food was tasty and fresh, every dinner was different,
- Great sandy beach. However to fully enjoy it you must get rid off the beach boys first. My suggestion is to take a walk north.
The hotel staff went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and they attended to our needs over and above expectation. The service was very personal and we felt very welcome. Our tours were pre-artanged to the last detail. The food was always fresh and tasty. The service was just exceptional. The hotel location is great.. there were not many people on the beach which made it nice and private..we are definitely coming back.
Very nice place to spend your holidays. It is well maintained, clean, has amaizing views, nice pool. The staff is very friendly. The food was good, very big portions. The hotel has good value for money. We loved the beach - it was clean, you can swim during high and low tides. Perfect place if you don’t want to be in the middle of nowhere but also want quiet holidays. No noisy bars, etc. Also, it felt safe.
i loved everything about this hotel from the staff, to the location, food, garden, decor, amenities & more! felt like a dream & everyone was so nice. the location was perfect, very close to everything but has privacy if you need some peace & quiet. they have a beautiful garden upkept by john & he was so sweet, a thousand thanks to him! definitely stay here if you can, my absolute favorite hotel stay :-)
Beautiful hotel fully integrated in the environment. Staff if extremely gentle. Great customer service always available to satisfy any request. Some of the facility may be renovated but anyway everything is very clean.
Sellers on the beach disturb during the day. Good that there is a limit they cannot go through so they don't come close sunbeds. Anyway there is hotel security to keep them away.
This was a huge property along with their smaller property called Amani Boutique Hotel. Because of their distance from the airport the transportation fees could be a bit higher but this place has it all. From the company that does scuba to all your other tours. Excellent food. Bathrooms could be a better but that’s nothing.
Zanzibar, like Tanzania, has an amazing vibe and people. We have enjoyed every moment there! The Villa was so beautiful, truly like in the photos! Pool was perfect, restaurant bar served delicious food and drinks. Beach is as shown, super close, with white sand, warm water. Everything was as on the photos.
It was a tropical paradise, close to the beach and to the road, but no noise and so beautiful. We had a lovely time talking to Agustin, who was so helpful and interesting! It was a new hotel, so it had no ratings when we booked, so that felt like a risk, but we were so happy we made the jump!
Great service from check in to check out. The rooms were amazing and the entire staff was outstanding. This was the third hotel we stayed at during our vacation and I wish we spent the entire time at the Sands. This will be our first choice when we come back to Zanzibar.
A comfortable home along a coastline that's otherwise entirely hotels. Super generous and helpful staff. Amazing view. Nothing short of five stars for the cost. Would definitely stay again, and I eagerly recommend Bibi Mrembo Guesthouse to anyone.
A jewel in the middle of nature and colors of Zanzibar!!
The huge rooms finely furnished.
Taste in the choice of colors and spaces, an oasis for those who are looking for peace and tranquility.
Excellent food, friendly staff.
Highly recommended!
Hotel Club Dongwe has an excellent location and a beautiful jetty.
We enjoyed swimming and snorkelling.
It also has a magnificent pool.
The staff are very professional and friendly.
We would like to visit Hotel Club Dongwe again in the future.
