The staff are absolutely spot on, couldn’t be more helpful and such nice people.
The food… is absolutely amazing pub grub done to a top standard and the portions are huge! I’d say they won’t sell many puddings!
Breakfast was the same… 100% fresh local produce and service with a smile.
A table of Germans at breakfast asked for some cheese and a platter came out that would put most cheese boards I’ve seen to shame!

This BnB is a one off. It has its own door from a delightful courtyard with chairs and table and a small sitting room. The bedroom is a very good size.
Breakfast is left in a fridge and is generous. A microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine are available. The bottle of wine was a real treat. The property is just off the A6 between Carlisle and Penrith - an excellent location if travelling to or from Scotland. It is opposite the church/war memorial in the centre of High Hesket. There is parking on site. It is also a good location to explore the north Lakes and a bus service to Carlisle/Penrith runs past the door

It is a really good area to stay as it is close to so many attractions. On the River Eden with beautiful walks and views. Excellent places to eat in Armathwaite and nearby. (highly recommend Fox and Pheasant). You need your own transport to get around. We have not found anything to avoid in the 4 years we have been coming here and come at least twice yearly.

There is so much to explore in the area as it is close to Scottish border and 'The Lakes'. There is something to see and somewhere to go in every direction.
I ate at several local places. The Fox and Pheasant do really good meals/snacks and I had a lovely Sunday Lunch with relations at 'The Heather Glen country house'.
You really need to have your own transport for this area to be able to explore.
I don't think I have found anything to avoid yet in 4 years of coming here.

Great base for exploring the Lakes.
Great base for exploring the Lakes. Armathwaite is very scenic and a good walking area. Also situated on the Settle to Carlisle railway.
We had all of our meals at the Fox and Pheasant. The food was excellent. We did call for a coffee at the other pub in the village, The Dukes Head, this was also very nice and friendly.

We enjoyed the simplicity and effortless hospitality of our hosts. After we enquired about local walks one member of the team came back to us with a hand written guide to take us through the local woodland and beauty spots and described a whole variety of other short walks that we might enjoy.
