We were really grateful for the customer service and support we received. The team's performance ( in-front house and catering, housekeeping) is absolutely of a 5 star hotel. Isaman, Dila, Rohitha, Sunil, Prince, were exceptional. We never felt our requests weren't accommodated, even more astonishing that there were times the service preceeded our requests.

The Falstaff in Canterbury, hotel in Canterbury

Just meters from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403.

We went to Canterbury to visit an animal park nearby. Due to mobility issues I was worried about driving there and back (to Brighton) in one day so we decided to make a little trip of it for my birthday. My sister had arranged the room to be decorated, she lives in LA so this was a big surprise and the hotel staff did a great job, I've never had that experience so although it felt surreal it was also very special! The bath was amazing for my muscles after the trip to the animal park, and we found a cat cafe not far from the hotel so managed to fit that in as well as a little wander. The bed was so comfortable with really soft sheets, we were both actually quite sad to have to leave it behind! The staff were all friendly, and breakfast was really good. I don't normally bother but due to the day trip I didn't want to be really hungry and there were sweet touches like mini jam jars and mini croissants (I'm a sucker for a miniature!)

Thomas Ingoldsby Wetherspoon, hotel in Canterbury

Located in Canterbury, within a few steps of Canterbury Cathedral and 4.1 km of University of Kent, Thomas Ingoldsby Wetherspoon provides accommodation with a restaurant and a bar, and free WiFi...

-Great location -Helpful staffs -The fact that you can see the cathedral from your window -When the fire alarm went off at 1 am, a staff came upstair to wake everybody up, explain the situation, and apologized right away when it was turned out to be a false alarm. After few hours, a letter delivered to the room apologizing for the fire alarm going off falsely, explaining the reason why it was triggered, and offering a free breakfast as a compensation. The problem-solving process was very swift and transparent, and I was not even annoyed that much because I would rather wake up to the false alarm than die in my sleep because of the fire. Thank you to all the staff members who were working that day.

FAQs about hotels in Canterbury

Heavenly Heritage and Literary Legend

Canterbury’s religious and historic significance has inspired literary greatness. Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ were based on pilgrimages to the bygone shrine of Thomas A Becket, who was murdered here. The Marlowe Theatre is named after the 16th-century playwright born here, and the Canterbury Museum has an exhibit on Rupert Bear, whose author lived in this River Stour city.

River cruises and punting provide fantastic views of the striking weavers’ houses right on the water, and of Westgate - the UK’s largest city gate. Other sections of the city walls remain, and there are also ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey, named after the 6th-century saint who brought Christianity to England. He was the first Archbishop of Canterbury, but the modern-day seat is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral, dating to the 12th century.

From the same period are the Norman castle ruins, occupying the site of a wooden fort constructed by William the Conqueror. The mound they sit on in Dane John Gardens is thought to be a Roman cemetery, and an original mosaic is visible in the Roman Museum.

In the Buttermarket half-timbered houses and historic inns are interspersed with shops, and big name brands line the Whitefriars Shopping Centre. The Canterbury accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap hostels and city centre B&Bs.

Beautiful with loads of independent shops. Really beautiful gems around the cathedral. Difficult to find decent parking in town. Public car parks not cheap and can’t vouch for their safety. Most city centre hotels don’t have their own car parks…which is a big problem.

I know Canterbury well as parents have lived in many locations surrounding the area including Reculver, Herne Bay, Seasalter, Whitstable. Not easy to get around from area to close area outside Canterbury using taxis. No taxis from various train stations to various surrounding areas. When travelling with friend in wheel chair it was a nightmare. Could not get any taxis. Luckily we were able to rely on relatively good bus services using disabled free bus passes.

The cathedral was beautiful ! The neighborhood has a lot of walkable streets wear tennis shoes though uneven pavements , very unsafe feeling environment where cycles park. There is limited parking there so you have to park blocks away and pay a premium.

We only stayed one night and saw everything we wanted to around the city; had we come by car we would have gone further afield and I am sure there were buses but this was deliberately a one night city break and we covered everything by walking. Local independent shops were good, Corkk for English wines and good coffee shop opposite Burgate Coffee Shop with fantastic cakes. The Parrot and The Dolphin served good food and drinks.

What a treasure! This is a brilliant small hotel, just a few minutes walk from the City centre. The room was so clean and cozy. I was staying in the annexe room, which was great as I could come and go through a separate entrance. There is a min i fridge with water and fresh milk, and breakfast is brought to the room on a tray. Breakfast, although continental was really good - fresh yogurt/granola, juice, hot toast and jam, fresh fruit and patisserie. Its really well thought out. I would definitely stay again.

The hotel was on a pedestrian precinct, which I would describe as central to Canterbury. It had cafes, bars and shops/boutiques there. Further up on the High Street, we did witness a few homeless people begging on the street. But we engaged and said hello not just ignored them and they were polite back, so I didn't feel uncomfortable, and it didn't detract from how I felt about the area.

Continental breakfast was very good with excellent choice of food available. Staff very friendly and helpful. Loved the city centre location so close to the many attractions Canterbury has to offer, and literally right opposite the Marlowe Theatre which couldn't be more convenient when seeing a show there. My second stay at the Pilgrim Hotel and will definitely be back!

We were allowed to park before our check-in so that we could explore Canterbury centre, which is a 15 minute walk away. Both check-in and staff were great, the hotel grounds are fantastic and the bar area is a bonus. Lovely choice of food for breakfast. Howletts Animal Park is only a 10 minute drive away, Ebury is perfect for exploring the area.

A very nice stylish hotel in a green and quiet environment, a bit out of city centre, but only 7 minutes away by car. I liked the old-style interiors of the manor house, even the squeaky floors, it all had a nice flair to it. Very polite staff and the best cooked breakfast I have ever had in a hotel of this category.

I couldn't have been closer to the entrance to Canterbury Cathedral, my main attraction. The breakfast was excellent. I DO like a real English breakfast. The room was larger than the average British hotel room--meaning that I could leave my suitcases flat on the floor and still walk around.
