After a long journey, there was a warm welcome and access was straightforward. The property is newly refurbished so everything was lovely and fresh. Our room was at the front of the building with french windows and you could just see the sea through the trees. The bed was very comfortable. The welcome tray looked lovely with tea/coffee etc in small clip top jars, and a hand written welcome note. Currently the opening hours of the bar/restaurant is 10am-8pm so if you were having an early start you'd have to look elsewhere for breakfast. As we were taking things at a leisurely pace this didn't impact us. The bar/restaurant has been beautifully design by someone who has an eye for detail. There is a large room at the back which sells larder food items and other items. It is also nice to sit outside in the courtyard and have a drink in the fresh air. The staff were very friendly.

The staff were fantastic, we called ahead and asked for an early check in as we were getting ready for a wedding that day and they sorted it all out for us which was such a huge help! Rooms were lovely and parking was very easy.

The room was basic but clean and comfortable, good shower but bathroom very confined, no toiletries provided other than towels and toilet rolls, tea and coffee available, bottom line friendly staff, good value for money in that all I needed was accommodation for the night.
Dating back around 350 years, Yalbury Cottage is situated in the village of Lower Bockhampton, 2 miles from the historic town of Dorchester. It offers a restaurant and free Wi-Fi.
Couldn’t fault the accommodation.
However Dorchester town seemed limited with places for a meal in the town itself. Plenty of places for burgers and snacks etc; but had to drive out for a decent meal.
The Keep was a very interesting place to visit. Other places of interest were either closed, or expensive to visit, or you had to book for an appointment.
Fortunately the buses to Weymouth seemed regular.

Although not a large town, there are a nice selection of shops along the Main Street, 5 museums catering for young and old, historical town walking trails and nature walks and a lovely Victorian park.
The selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants will satisfy any foodie lovers requirements, and on the Sunday that we visited, there was an Artisan street market and a car boot to wander around.
Parking is plentiful and cheap, and free 6pm-8am.

Dorchester has the feel of a small town with many delightful old buildings, cafes, pubs and restaurants, all seemingly selling good food. There are many museums in and around the town centre, often easy to get to on foot. There is Roman history here, medieval too, a long military heritage and of course the dinosaurs of the famous Jurassic coast. Too many things to do in just one weekend, and many more attractions only a short car-drive away. The shops? - Well we never had time to explore them!

The Dorchester Museum is excellent.
The Dorchester Museum is excellent. We called in just to find out about the Iron Age fort and ended up learning so much more. Everything is very clearly displayed and explained in enough detail, but not too much. There are some remarkable Roman mosaics, a good overview of a fascinating history of the area, and an interesting section about Thomas Hardy. We were there in cold, wet February weather, so outdoor activities didn’t suit the weather. At different times of the year the outdoor activities in the area have great promise.

We only went for my cousin wedding at the towns registry office, that was a very good experience. We had intended to look around the town on the following day but the weather was so foul we travelled back home.
The town for what we saw had some wonderful historical building, and we would have liked to explored more
Without doubt this was the best room we have rented. An idyllic location, spotlessly clean with friendly and helpful hosts. We rented for four days and would not hesitate to return or recommend to anyone. Breakfast is tasty and plentiful, the room comfortable and well furnished and the wifi fast. Bear in mind that there is no bath but the shower is large and powerful. The village is extremely pretty too and Dorchester has some great restaurants and beautiful surroundings.
Everything at this hotel was fab! Loved our room (at rear with view of garden), bed was firm and comfy with lovely decor as was the hotel per se. Food, again was excellent with local produce, and extra attention to detail. Host is ultra helpful; parking, local food and tourist recommendations etc. If you are sociable and like good food this is the the hotel for you. If we are visiting Dorchester in the future, we will definitely be staying here again.
Lovely location in pretty Dorset village about 8 miles north of Dorchester. I used as a base for visiting the tank museum at Bovington - about a 35 min journey away.
The accommation is across the car park from the pub which is fine and the double en-suite room was well appointed and comfy. Staff and food at the pub were excellent and it felt really friendly for someone travelling alone.
Hope to return with a friend to show her the area.
Fantastic place, central to many Dorset attractions and Dorchester itself. Superbly spacious rooms with shower and lovely toiletries, plenty of wardrobe space, comfy beds. Room has tea and coffee facilities with coffee machine.
Breakfast was fantastic with endless coffee and tea and a brilliantly cooked full English as well as cereals, juices and toast (with proper butter.)
This was easily the best hotel during our UK trip. The staff was lovely, the food was amazing ( tasty, big portions and fairly priced), the continental breakfast had many options, the rooms were nice and clean.
The position is perfect to visit the Jurassic coast both west and east, it's just 27 minutes from Lulworth cove and Durdle door, and 25 minutes from Waymouth.
Fantastic B&B, the best bed we have ever slept in...
Great position on the outskirts of Dorchester, close to a shop
The hosts are excellent and friendly. A very tasty breakfast and set up in a way you talk to other guests. We slept in one of the lodges to the rear which was exceptional, clean and tidy.
All the best for the future Gary
The food was first-class; the staff were professional, helpful, efficient and cheerful; the room was superb; the facilities in general were very good. This hotel is very historic and it has been refurbished with great taste. It is very nicely located and, at last, Dorchester has a really good hotel for all occasions
We were staying there because my parents were on holiday in Weymouth, my father was taken to hospital in Dorchester so we needed local accommodation. Mark was lovely and bent over backward to accommodate us and help us out especially with my elderly mom.
The proprietor Noorani was so kind, welcoming, and helpful. She is also an amazing cook! So lovely to be right in the heart of Dorchester. I really appreciated Noorani’s knowledge of the history of the town and region, which is fascinating.
Breakfast was really nice, The food for our evening meal was exceptional and very good value for money. The hotel is handily placed for visiting Dorchester, Portland, Tolpuddle, Cerne Abbas, and Weymouth.. A very enjoyable stay.
Our room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was sufficient to set us up for the day. The Inn is in a quiet hamlet outside Dorchester and as such is centrally situated for touring Dorset.
The landlady couldn't do enough for me and my mate who were in dorchester for a army reunion a lot of larger hotels could learn from the landlady customer care
The quality of the room and furnishing was excellent. Like a high class hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was good Gastropub quality.
