Beautiful place with a breathtaking view. Very pretty garden. The house is absolutely gorgeous, very spacious, comfortable furniture everything super clean and brand new. Jan and Colin are the nicest people on earth rescuing us from the back of beyond with two flat tires. I want to come again and stay much longer.

We called in to a few pubs and the locals were all very friendly and chatty even to us English ha ha. The town was clean and we had a nice walk across the river along a park then back again. There was plenty of places to have a drink. We only went for the football at Queen of the South and I would go there again given the chance.

I visited with my young grandchildren to attend the Wigtonshire Book Festival which was a great success, as was the accommodation. However on the Sunday evening, after the Book Festival, There was nowhere suitable available in Dumfries to take three children for an evening meal before travelling home to Stirling. Quite disappointing.

I was only there for 2 days, for a Watercolour workshop, so unfortunately didn’t have much time for sightseeing, but it seems a very historic and interesting town Ate in the Bistro restaurant at Crichton

Dumfries is a mecca for all things Rabbie Burns; it boasts the site of his original grave, a Burns museum, the house where he last resided, his local pub and more besides. The people of Dumfries are exceptionally friendly and the town is steeped in history. The River Nith provides a romantic backdrop which is very atmospheric at night. Dumfries is easily accessible by road and rail and easy to get around. There are some very characterful places to visit and with more visitors, the variety of places to eat and drink will surely increase.

The location was near the train station and 5 minutes walk from the town centre. A lovely river walk took you into town if you wanted a longer walk along the river into town. Free parking was available at the side of the hotel, Lovely bedrooms, clean, well equipped with TV, tea and coffee machine etc. with a large ensuite shower room. Breakfast was excellent in both quality and value and the staff were happy to give information, and recommendations of places to see and visit.

Sally and Ian were lovely hosts; very welcoming and attentive, and had great tips for things to do in Dumfries and the wider region. My room was large and very comfortable. The location is great; only a five-minute stroll from the town centre and just off the main road for driving anywhere, but in a very quiet street. Breakfast was delicious too. I will definitely be back when I next visit Dumfries and Galloway.

Euan Maxwell runs an outstanding B&B to rival most hotels and nothing is too much trouble. Room and en-suite bathroom were spacious and immaculate in all respects. Bed was clean and comfortable. We made use of the guest kitchen which is very fully equipped. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast. We will certainly use Southpark House again when we need to stay in the Dumfries area in the future.

Comfortable accommodation, breakfast set up very good, with optional porridge (which was delicious) followed by a buffet style Scottish breakfast, plus toast, cereals, fruit, yogurt etc. Lovely building and in accesssible area for access to Dumfries or to explore Dumfries and Galloway further. The staff we met were very helpful and friendly and there was plenty of parking on site.

I recently reviewed a hotel in Portpatrick and did not rate it well. Everything that Portpatrick did wrong, Best Western Station Hotel did right. The staff were incredibly friendly, professional and accommodating. Despite the building itself being old it was well maintained and my room was very spacious and comfortable. I don't have a single complaint about my stay here.

Dumfries is in a beautiful area although the town itself is in a bit of a slump. Aberdour house was clean and in a good location with an accommodating host. As in keeping with it's setting, there were no amenities (except soap and towels) and the plumbing was "quirky".
