We were only there for one night, but we’re recommended the Globe for a meal, and it didn’t disappoint, on the way we dropped in at the Annan distillery well worth the £25 tour and the driver gets his or her tasting pack to take away with them.

Lots to see and do all around ; mountain biking in the forests ( recommend Ae forest with bike hire and cafe) Lots of local history from gunpowder to Robert Burns . Drumlanrig castle near Thornhill well worth a visit . The surrounding hills are beautiful ( get up into the local hills and villages) Nature reserves around the Solway estuary .Easily spend one to two weeks in a 15 mile radius of Dumfries I’m

Beautiful place with a breathtaking view. Very pretty garden. The house is absolutely gorgeous, very spacious, comfortable furniture everything super clean and brand new. Jan and Colin are the nicest people on earth rescuing us from the back of beyond with two flat tires. I want to come again and stay much longer.

We called in to a few pubs and the locals were all very friendly and chatty even to us English ha ha. The town was clean and we had a nice walk across the river along a park then back again. There was plenty of places to have a drink. We only went for the football at Queen of the South and I would go there again given the chance.

However on the Sunday evening, after the Book Festival, There was nowhere suitable available in Dumfries to take three children for an evening meal before travelling home to Stirling. The breakfast was delicious and the dining facilities were warm and welcoming. Hamilton House is close to the train station and not far from the town center so it's ideal for anyone whos' never visited/stayed in Dumfries before. I am really looking forward to going back again soon.
