Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.
The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.
Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.
Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.
As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

Oban is an absolutely beautiful coastal town with great access to the rest of the Highlands. The ferries were very easy to use and we had a wonderful time exploring the Isle of Mull and travelling past the Isle of Kerrera on the way. Also make sure to head towards Dunollie Castle and take the tour round - a great time if you enjoy history or stories of the clans.
All of the food establishments that we went to were delicious and had great options. Highly recommend the ceilidh dancing on a Monday and Thursday night as it was a cracking time.

Oban is on a very pretty bay.
Oban is on a very pretty bay. It was really busy on a beautiful Saturday and the people were friendly and helpful. Coasters and EE-usk accepted us for food/drinks with no reservations!
We did not get there early enough to explore the attractions.
The train station and ferry terminal were very efficient and helpful.
We discovered a choir and orchestra concert which was a real treat!

Oban is a delightful seaside town that offers very good restaurants, shopping (small shops with nice merchandise) and the ability to enjoy the beauty of the bay and all of its activity. Oban makes a great base for exploring the area of walks/hikes, going out on small boat short duration trips to see wildlife, lots of castles to visit or to take the ferry out to the islands. Taxi service is plentiful as are private tour guides.
This is a very nice family style hotel with great views of the water. Room was comfortable, nice bathroom and a walkout balcony with a table and chairs and a terrific view of the water and bridge. Very quiet. They are located about 12 min. from Oban and an ideal location for us. Oban can be a bit hectic. Breakfasts were absolutely wonderful with a wide variety of choices and fixed to order. We ate 2 evening meals in the dinning room and they were delicious. The dinning room looks out over a beautiful lawn and water.
This is a lovely traditional Scottish hotel. The staff were friendly and attentive. A very nice feel. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal and breakfast in the morning couldn't be faulted. A very comfortable room. Would certainly stay again if we visit Oban in the future. There is a great train service with the station just behind the hotel- Conel- Ferry stop on the Glasgow line or an excellent bus service from Conel- village shop into Oban. The taxi was only £15.
The hosts were kind and efficient. We enjoyed the room and the location. The small bar in the hotel was managed by the owner and he offered us a taste of whiskey and recommended local excursions. Breakfast was large and made to order, and tasty. I would say this was the best value and best location of our whole trip in Scotland. Onsite parking and beautiful grounds whit a view of the bay. We felt very well taken care of!
I highly recommend!
Everything!… this hotel is perfect in every way… if you are lucky enough to be near Oban this is the only place you will want to stay!… the hotel is beautifully decorated, the rooms are spacious and the bed was exceptionally comfortable… the bathroom was fabulous… the evening meal and breakfast was delicious and all the staff are super friendly and helpful…
We picked up the keys for the apartment from the main hotel reception desk. The Apartments are just down the road from the hotel next to a fantastic hardware shop. Our apartment was on the top floor with views over Oban. The apartments are extremely well finished, and very well equipped. Parking is in the street, on a meter, its free overnight 6pm-9am.
This hotel was wonderful! We enjoyed it so much. The owners even left a whisky tasting for us from nearby Oban distillery as well as crisps and sodas. The view out the front windows was fantastic. The size of the rooms was very large. We would definitely highly recommend!!!
The best part of this hotel is the amazing restaurant and friendly staff. You can’t find fresher or more beautifully
cooked fish, especially the sea bass. The hotel is located five miles outside of Oban and overlooks beautiful and calming waters, with glorious sunsets.
The hotel is in a good location in Oban - right on the Esplanade - and has parking, although there is a charge. The rooms have superb views of all the ferries coming and going to the islands. Breakfast was very good. Staff were very pleasant.
Location was great..
Very friendly staf.
Went on a Staffa day trip and went out touring Oban so never spent much time in the hotel.
Had a great sleep in the comfy beds.
Fitted in perfectly.
Great value for money.
Loved my stay here 😍
Neat apartment; well designed and equipped Really comfy bed, and kitchen, sitting and dining furniture all very practical.
Easy to check in and out via the nearby Ranald Hotel. Really central; a short walk to the centre of town and the shore.
Lovely hotel, spotless clean. Friendly and helpful staff, especially cleaning ladies. Great location with a big free car park, which is a tremendous bonus as parking in Oban can be difficult. We loved our stay.
The location of the Oban Bay Hotel is excellent, the bed was really comfortable, and the reception staff were professional and friendly, and the food in the restaurant was very good.
This hotel is right in the middle of anything you’d like to do in Oban! The staff are super friendly and the cleaning staff are super nice. The rooms were clean and comfy.
Nice little hotel in the heart of Oban, close to everything but off the main roads. Room was clean and comfortable with lots of amenities, staff was lovely and helpful.
Breakfast was excellent. Chose this hotel because it was dog friendly. Easy check-in. Parking was a big plus as not many hotels in the Oban area provide parking.
