The building is beautiful as you come up the drive and is stunning when you step through the door , the hotel’s history was interesting . The lady at reception was very friendly , polite and helpful . The room was very comfortable. No kitchen/ cooked meals available but was told we could go to the other hotel for our evening meal. We had a lovely nights sleep . We chose to have a continental breakfast and was happy with the selection and quality.

There was a wide choice of continental breakfast with ample fresh fruit etc. No one could complain about the choice and quality . The rooms were excellently appointed and all had free WiFi. We had never stayed on a Guest House before ( always hotels or self catering) and were unexpectedly surprised by the convenience and vfm . If we are in this area again , which we hope to be, we will definitely try to stay here again . Apart from the accommodation it is so excellently situated for touting Northern Scotland .

Great little pine chalet in quiet countryside 10 mins drive from Tain and 15 mins walk from Portmahomock. Cosy bedroom, lounge with tv, bathroom with roomy electric shower and kitchen diner with microwave, fridge, induction hobs, kettle and coffee machine. Everything you need for a self catering break. Ideally placed for Tain or walking the coastal path to Tarbet Ness. Super peaceful at night. Reminded us of a traditional Norwegian hytter.
Quiet area with several options for food and drink.
Quiet area with several options for food and drink. Platform 1867 a fun restaurant with good food, friendly staff and lovely outside area. Plenty of shops and petrol stations. We didnt make it to the beach as travelling each day. Great base for North East and West coast. Good road and rail connections.

I used Tain as a base for a golf holiday in the Highlands.
I used Tain as a base for a golf holiday in the Highlands. Although I did not play Tain Golf Club which is basically next to the hotel, it was convenient for rounds at Brora, Golspie, Royal Dornoch and Fortrose & Rosemarkie, within about a 45 minute drive of all four. Tain itself is a nice village with good restaurants and shopping which I took advantage of when my clubs were not in use. Particularly enjoyed Greens Restaurant within a block of the hotel.

When we travelled north to Thurso, then to Okney, we stopped in Tain at a very nice grocery. After Okney and northern Scotland, we had to head back to Edinburgh. Thurso was too far to drive to Edinburgh, and since we were returning from Orkney by ferry. It was too far to drive down to Inverness. But staying in Tain was just right. We arrived in Edinburgh early in the afternoon, feeling refreshed. The Springfield Guest House, Tain was just down the street from that really good grocery, that is open till 9:00pm.

Tain's location allows ease of access to routes further North (for example to Tongue) or West across to Applecross or South to Inverness. There are lovely beaches close to Tain with good places to eat and drink in the town. It has various supermarkets including Tesco and Lidl and other shops in the town centre.

Pretty small town with nice walks along the coast and also along the John o'Groats Trail which can be accessed from Tain. Transport links are pretty good as both trains and buses are options. Good places to eat out e.g. Platform 1864 and the St Duthus Hotel. The town museum and the old church are both worth a visit. The town is full of flowers and hanging baskets and the small rose garden in the High Street is lovely and very well maintained by a team of volunteers.
It is in a great location that requires a short walk to get to the town centre and it isn't too far away from Tesco or the station. The room was very clean and well-maintained by the staff who made me feel welcome when I left or arrived to go into town. You will only ever see the staff from breakfast till around 1400 ish where they clean the rooms. For the rest of the time, there won't be anyone around and a WhatsApp number is provided in case you need assistance.
Love this hotel! The staff was wonderful and everyone was very gracious during our stay. My brother and his wife loved their room and the furnishings - a step back in time. It was like a honeymoon for them. The food in the dining room was delicious especially the duck breast! My sister and I enjoyed our rooms, very comfortable. Would definitely stay there again . thank you to all the staff. We certainly enjoyed our conversations with all of you.

A classical setting surrounded by a nice park and hosted by a very friendly staff, what else does one need !
From Mansfield Castle there are plenty thing to do in the environment. A two or three day stay easily fills a program for sightseeing, golf and walking tours. Diner facilities in associated Morangie hotel satisfactory too. The hotel runs it own bar with all the whisky brands and a knowledgeable staff to advise.
Edderton Lodge is about 300' away from Balblair Distillery in the village of Edderton. Perfect if you are doing a tour and tasting and then going to the lodge to stay. Across the lane is all open fields and a Pictish column. 10 minutes away in Tain is a supermarket, the Glenmorangie Distillery, and a few restaurants. Breakfast was limited but tasted great. Dinner is available if you tell them in advance.
Excellant hosts and very welcome stay, lovely bar to relax on a night, lovely room with good facilities and very clean, what I will say is we were there for 1 night with a rather loud customer which resulted in a poor nights sleep, but the owners tried to handle the situation as it was not their fault, also due to covid only able to offer a takeaway menu as the evening dining option,
Hospitality was excellent, and staff couldn't do enough to make stay more pleasant.
Breakfast was one of the best I have had had, with great selection, and very good cooked breakfast offered.
Evening meals were of good quality, and generous portions, and attentive staff.
Hotel was centrally located in charming small town.
Hotel was well presented.
This was our 7th night in Scotland. We stayed in 6 B and B’s before the Shandwick house and all were nice places. That said, Dennis’ hospitality was bar none. Not just the nicest host we had but quite possibly the nicest person we met the whole trip. Breakfast was phenomenal, room was phenomenal and location was excellent. Book it.
The property has a lovely feel to it, comfortable and friendly. Great setup for families travelling with children, cot and bedding provided. The food is always served with good portions and tastes lovely, both breakfast and dinner. The rooms are a great size and very comfortable. Good heating throughout the hotel as well.
Food was excellent as was the service. Everyone at the hotel goes above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. All meals are at communal tables. There is no private dining. Common spaces were eclectic but well done. The bedroom decor seems to be 60s / 70s design- a bit unexpected and off.
The apartment is great with plenty of room and perfectly clean. Host had put some essentials in fridge and cupboards which was brilliant touch.
Having hotel below means you can eat on site too if you don’t fancy cooking but nice kitchen in apartment if you do!
A very friendly and welcoming host. A superb room, nicely furnished, with dual aspect windows and great views. A great breakfast selection. Tain and its close surroundings (Portmahomack and Tarbat Ness lighthouse to name 2) are definitely worth a stop.
Great hotel and the staff were friendly and professional. The food was first class and for the quality very reasonable.
A quiet hotel yet within walking distance of the town of Tain.
Overall excellent stay and will return again.
Everything was fine in house , beds comfy kitchen had Everything you would need. The hotel across the road serves lovely food all done by the owners will be back
Lovely quiet self contained apartment, welll set out, comfy bed , sofa and even a coffe machine. Everything you could need and more.
