Icod is an unassuming and charming little town in the north...
Icod is an unassuming and charming little town in the north of Tenerife. It is by no means a tourist resort, but a place where the locals live, work and go to school. Icod has its fair share of attractions - Parque del Drago and Mariposario right in the centre, Cueva del Viento and Playa San Marcos a few kilometres up and downhill respectively - but it is not built around them.
Playa San Marcos is a beautiful spot, a short drive, bus ride or somewhat lengthy walk downhill from the centre of town, but as anywhere on the north coast of Tenerife, be aware that the surf tends to be strong and bathing is not permitted if it gets too strong.
There are many impressive and well-marked hiking routes in the vicinity of Icod, one starting from the plaza of nearby Garachico and going up to and around the Chinyero volcano (you can do it in sections), another from Los Silos to Erjos, to name but a few.
Icod is very well connected to everything along the north coast from Buenavista to Puerto, making it an excellent base from which to explore the north-west of Tenerife. We relied on buses ('guaguas') and sometimes taxis for all our excursions and it worked perfectly.
So, if you are looking for a friendly, relaxed and, shall we say, 'authentic' place to stay in Tenerife, and if you are not fully committed to a beach holiday, then this is the place to go.

We think that the north coast of Tenerife is much more...
We think that the north coast of Tenerife is much more pleasant than the south, it’s much greener, less touristy and there’s some lovely visits to be done. The roads, particularly in the north, are quite hair raising in places, very hilly and twisty, we quite understood by the end of our trip why the car hire company had not bothered to repair all the scrapes! We very much enjoyed the village of Garachico, a few minutes drive from Icod de L’os Vinos, a beautiful little village. Of particular note the restaurant Silogia where we returned for a second visit it was so good, lovely food, beautiful courtyard and friendly efficient hosts. There is also some natural sea water pools which looked wonderful but unfortunately were temporarily closed for some reason. Icod de Los Vinos itself we didn’t visit in depth but we did enjoy the dragon tree and butterfly house. What we did appreciate immensely was all the free on street parking areas everywhere we went in the north and near the beaches.

If you are trekker like us, Icod is a perfect starting point. Climate, closeness to the treks, small playa close by, .... just perfect. Not too big, but big enough with few interesting sights of the town to visit.
Privacy, quite, beautiful view, comfortable house. Owner helpful and friendly. Town is gorgeous, romantic, not expensive, not many tourists. Good restorans, short distance from Loro Parque , Puerto de la Cruise and Siam Park.

We liked the area around Icod.
We liked the area around Icod. The town Garrachico was very nice and we found rough beaches to go swimming. Icod is a friendly town with few tourists when we visited. Lidl as a big shopping center for groceries. The best part is nature around Icod and that it is away from the masses of tourists on the south coast.

Is very good but in one or two years when the Erjos tunnel finish the construction you save twenty minutes in the Teno mountain for the south
and beachs . And then Icod become one of the best place in the midpoint
between north and south

Very nice old house with a terrasse that gives an incredible view of both the Ocean and the Teide Vulcano. The rooms are very cozy, the kitchen is very beautiful, and the bathrooms are clean and comfortable. Mac was very nice and gave us a lot of amazing tips. The house also has a garden full of Mango and Avocado trees. Icod de Los Vinos turned out to be a great location to make trips around the most beautiful places of Tenerife. We stayed seven nights at Casa Antonia and really enjoyed it!
Very nice bungalow, it is not huge but cosy,
Great view spots, owners helpful. Washing machine and dryer available - very helpful.
It was bit tricky to find it, since it is gate by road, but then parking was safe, we got remote control for gate, so easy control.
Dogs and cats around:-) Henry is very friendly.
Really recommend if you want to be in calmer place than in beach hotel, but count with commuting.
Book with local recommendations, very useful.
The place is located uphill of Icod de los Vinos (around 10-15 min drive to the centre), surrounded by forests and with Teide views. Very calm and ideal for relaxing and enjoying nature. We stayed at El Naranjo, one of the old little houses, which was cozy, very clean, and decorated in rural style. The house is well-equipped with all you can need for a stay of a few days, including fast internet connection. The owner was kind and very available.
the hotel is located in the very center of Ico de Los Vinos. There's a banana museum, a church with a Sunday market, a butterfly park, the famous Dragon tree, as well as grocery stores, bars and restaurants right next door. The hotel is very beautiful, ancient, comfortable and tidy. In the hotel's patio and terrace, surrounded by palm trees and banana trees, we exercised in the morning. Great breakfast! Welcome, I recommend it!
The private room felt like a hotel room but the common dormitory was nice too, clean, comfortable, and it seemed to me more spacious than the one at Puerto Nest. The neighbourhood is quiet. The gargantuan buffet breakfast on the roof with a view is a Nest Hostels trademark, this one comes only second to the one at Puerto Nest (but the bar is high). When there is no staff at the hostel, you can speak to someone via Whatsapp.
The rural house is located in a beautiful and peaceful place, 10 min drive up from Icod de Los Vinos.
Mostly we enjoyed beautiful balcony with a very nice ocean and forest view. The rooms are very comfortable and clean as well. We had everything to make our stay pleasant. Nice breakfast, tea, coffee. Good breakfast.
Michele and Debora are attentive and kind hosts. We would like to thank them for this pleasant stay
The setting is amazing, with plenty of terraces and outdoor areas, pools and a well equipped kitchen with a laundry room and spacious lounges. All cleaning products provided including dishwasher tablets and laundry products, plus spices and oil. . Netflix available.. Good location to visit Masca and La Oratova , plenty to see and do in Icod de los Vinos. The hosts were helpful and good communicators.
A very nice, clean, well cared for apartment. Definitely much better than a hotel. A view to kill for and a very good value for money. For those who stay longer (we only stayed one night), there is a small but very well equipped kitchen. The host was easy to communicate with and easily solved our late arrival problem. There is a small beach and a couple of nice restaurants within a walking distance.
Pilar is the most friendly host that will try to make you as comfortable as possible. The apartment is very big and has everything you need (and more!) for a great vacation. There is a free parking spot in a secure underground parking, very close to the apartment. Icod de los vinos is a great small town with multiple restaurants. 100% would recommend this place, it is the best stay we ever had!
Great welcoming touches, a bottle of wine, cold water in the fridge with selection of teas and coffee. Good size for a couple everything we needed to cook etc and chill out. Mercado 4 minutes walk that sells everything you may need. Icod de los Vinos old town 20 minutes walk. A great clean cosy spot with a responsive host available to answer any queries.
Everything was really nice, cozy and good quality. Top breakfast, snacks, coffee and wine in the evening.
The lady from the reception was very friendly and knowledgeable.
This hotel is a must visit, much better than the usual touristy resorts.
Also they offer free private parking, a bit plus for us.
Beautiful old hotel in the centre of the old town. Rooms around a courtyard but quiet. We were there at Christmas and all the local restaurants were closed in the evening, so the hostess prepared sandwiches for the guests and set up tables so we could take out from the nearby Chinese restaurant.
We spent 14 nights in this wonderful hotel. Its a perfect and beautiful "oasis" in Icod de los Vinos and has a perfect location for experiencing the north of Tenerife and Teide National Park. The service and help offered around everything around your trip is outstanding.
Traditional build Canary house / hotel with courtyard in superb condition, despite being in the historical center it is super quiet and simply a perfect gem. Breakfast was amazing, service flexibility of staff were TOP! I be back here for sure.
Beautiful old Tenerife style hotel with lots of wood features. The setting was beautiful with little court yard and outdoor sitting area. Location is good in the heart of the old town.
