A Capital City with a Small Town Charm
The charming Slovenian capital, Ljubljana is the only large city in the country. Dominated by the Castle Hill with Medieval Ljubljana Castle on top, the city is a picturesque Balkan mix of architectural styles, romantic bridges and scenic views.
Due to two major earthquakes in 1511 and 1895, which destroyed many buildings, the Old Town features a range of styles: from Roman period, through Medieval Baroque to Vienna Secession. Strolling along the Ljubljanica River you will see the Triple Bridge, connecting two parts of the centre and beautifully lit in the evenings. Such a wonderful city. Set on the river with good musical street entertainment in abundance. Europe's 'Green City' lives up to its name.Visited the Modern Art Museum. Also the Tivoli Gardens, although this proved too big to walk around. Some lovely buildings in the old town and great spaces.

Surprised at how much I liked the city, I had no expectations when I took off. I was amazed at the colors, the cleanliness of the city, how lively it was, fresh food, very nice places to visit. Also, you can do some day trips which I highly recommend. They spiced up my stay.

Ljubljana is a nice "old" city, with a lot of beautiful sites to photograph. Take the train ride to see the main sites and then walk around the city. Eat the mushroom's soup, which is a must!! Other places in Slovenia you MUST visit: Postojna caves, Lake Bled, Predjama Castle and Vintgar Gorge. Recommended to book all in advance (several monthes...).LisetePortugal - 10Scored 10

Fantastic place. We especially liked the Food Market on a Friday evening. We did two trips - one to Lake Bled, the other to the caves and castle. Be careful as entry fees are NOT included on both. Ljubljana is a beautiful city with so much to see and do for the few days that we stayed, the people are so friendly and it feels totally safe to walk around, day and night, the food was excellent, so fresh didn’t have a bad meal. Cafe culture is second to none, the ambience and atmosphere makes this city a must see, We walked around the markets, craft and food We visited vintgar Gorge this was truly stunning a lot of walking involved so not good for less able The trail was very well maintained and safe even supplied hard hats Then on to lake Bled, this was stunning, we enjoyed the boat ride across to the island Afterwards we went to lake Bohinj again another beautiful peaceful place to visit. It’s much better than a hotel room when staying a week or more. Air conditioning was a big plus, to keep cool during a heatwave with 35 degrees. Private parking included. Very nice and service minded host. A perfect place to have as a base, to visit the famous lakes and mountains in the north and the caves in south. And only 10 min drive to city centre. We loved it and highly recommend the place.
