We were nicely welcomed to the hotel. There is a parking in the inside court. The location is superb, one can walk to the beach or try the many restaurants around. Breakfast was not included but was not expensive. We ordered a cooked breakfast which was served rapidly from the kitchen.
The bed was comfortable and we had a nice balcony from which we were able to observe a brilliant sunset. There is a lovely bar located directly facing the beach. I would stay there again.

A beautiful and tasteful hotel. The rooms were spacious and in a really nice style. Our balcony was amazing- we had a hammock, chairs and sofa to chill on.
The pool was beautiful.
The rooms/ cabins were in an enclosed area with lovely planting. It was heaven.
The breakfasts were great too and the staff were so kind and generous.

The place is nice and well located. We arrived at around 2.30pm and checked in immediately. The beach is not far from the property, at walking distance. It was safe during the day and night. The staff was informative and didn't intervene at all during our stay, so we could enjoy a nice private stay.

We booked online and when we arrived, the hotel was locked up with chains at the gate, not a soul was there. We waited for 3 hours and finally decided to book somewhere else. I hope the owners are fine, but seriously not impressed. Close you online bookings if you leave...

This is the most peaceful place I have stayed in all my years travelling. It is so tranquil and lovely, right next to the beach. The only sound I could hear was the waves on the shore.
Fly to Guayaquil or Quito, then take a domestic flight to Manta (approx. 1 hour). From Manta, it's a 1.5-hour drive to Puerto López. Alternatively, direct buses from Guayaquil (5 hours) or Quito (10 hours) are available.
The most convenient airport for both domestic and international travellers is José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport in Guayaquil. It's approximately 200km away from Puerto López, offering numerous flight options and good transport links.
In Puerto López, Ecuador, the primary mode of public transport is the tuk-tuk, a small, three-wheeled vehicle. Buses are also available for longer distances. For short trips, walking or cycling is common. Car hire is an option, but be aware of local driving conditions. Always verify routes and fares before travelling.
The best area to stay in Puerto López, Ecuador is the town centre. It's popular for its proximity to the beach, restaurants, and shops. It's also convenient for visiting the Machalilla National Park.
Puerto López, Ecuador, experiences a tropical savannah climate with two distinct seasons: a wet season from December to May and a dry season from June to November. Despite its equatorial location, Puerto López does not have a typical summer or winter season due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean.

PL is a very pleasant fishing village in EC on the Pacific ocean. The beach is fabulous and there are many good places to eat. We recommend eating at Ancora. The owners and staff are great. The chef is from Barcelona and makes some original Spanish dishes.
One bit of advice for all these beach villages is eat early to avoid the loud music that fires up as the evening progresses. For some reason they think this extremely loud music is what everyone wants to hear.

There were lots of things to do outside the beach: whale watching, scuba, seeing the monkeys in the Sendero Bola del Oro, bird watching in Ayampe Reserve. In the community el Pital we used Carlos Manrique and it was a great guide - 0982767109 or on Facebook at sendero bola de oro. We went with the Rosita whale watching and they really tried to make sure you got your money's worth of whales, seals, and boobies! It is fun to get up in the morning and watch the fishing boats come back in with the birds fighting the fishermen for their haul! There were so good restaurants depending on your taste - the Hotel Victor Hugo had lots of variety and good desserts; the Il Capuccino pizzería Ristorante had good options and a friendly staff.

Like most travellers in summer we went to Puerto Lopez for Isla de Plata and the whale watching. It's definitely worth a visit as Isla de Plata, the turtles and humpback whales were magnificent.
Unfortunately in summer you only have a few real sunny days. We had one (when we visited Isla de Plata) but the other days were overcasted with sometimes a fine drizzle. Therefore we did not went to visit/see Parque National Machalilla which should be worth a visit as well.

Small beach town with much to do if you are into wildlife exploration.
Even though accommodation options are limited and fairly pricey (I recommend Casita Madame for the best value-for-money), we have stayed in and around Puerto Lopez for over a week, exploring the beaches, Isla de Plata, nearby villages… we go on tours, snorkeling, diving, swimming, hiking— no reason to get bored!
Restaurants are a bit tricky so we switched to accommodation with kitchen pretty soon, but do try Aloha Cafe, Cappuccino (the Italian) or the Colombian place (around the corner from Cappuccino but I forget the exact name).

Puerto Lopez is a great spot to spend a few days and nights. Don't forget to visit Pacha Chocolates and coffee on the E15 north of town. The owners are there and will give a tour if you have 4 people. The day trip to Isle La Plata is a great trip for $45 each but be prepared to walk and climb.

The problem was that it was supposed to be sunny but it was just pouring rain the whole time. The town is mud bath in bad weather, only marginally set up for this kind of thing. It still represents a much better choice in terms of its range of services compared to the neighboring towns.
The hostel itself was very neat and clean and is perfectly located in the middle of Puerto Lopez.
Quentin, the owner of the hostel had great recommendations for us (he’s fluent in English, Spanish and German) and organised us a trip into the jungle to a local community.
He also had recommendations for snorkel and diving sessions off the beaten track.
We would 100% recommend staying there and catch up with Quentin for a chat and ask him what to do in and around Puerto Lopez!
this is really amazing place in Ecuador. Maybe the best hotel we visited during of our trip ... really very nice garden, bungalovs .. everything was so comfortable and we spend there 3 nights. I have to reccomend this hotel and - ocean and beach in front of the hotel - no big vawes, you can swim there without no problem and hotel lends beach equipment for free. Tasty and big breakfast, excellent jams!!! This place is = MUST BE!!!
Julio and his father were some of the kindest people I've met on my trip around Ecuador. I arrived to the lodge quite ill and Dr Salazar nursed me back to health and they did everything they could to make me comfortable so I could heal. I wish I could give an even higher rating!
The hotel itself is very clean and affordable and even includes breakfast. The pool was very nice as well.
10/10 recommend Tuzco Lodge!
Heidis place is the perfect place to have some calm days in Puerto Lopez. The view from the open kitchen on the sea is amazing and you can buy some fish for your lunch or dinner just on the opposite side of the road. Heidi is super kind and helpful! Another point: Heidi gives shelter to 4 homeless cats which are super cute! <3
The family was nice and always helped by questions. They gave us the room cheaper cause I made a mistake via booking a family room for 4 people.
Free water for drinking and hor water in the shower. Close to the beach and short distance to the main beach street.
We all slept fine but in the beds.
Warm and beautiful place in Puerto Lopez, it is located across from the beach, super close to everything but still far from the noise which makes the location perfect. The owner and the employees are super nice and helpful. Breakfast is amazing and unlike other places, it is different every day.
My experience at Nativa Whale Domes in Puerto Lopez was, unfortunately, the most challenging night of my trip. Despite the potential for a pleasant stay, there's a significant drawback that overshadowed everything else.
very beautiful room in a even more beautiful & relaxing garden with extra area to sit and make coffee/tea (available). Great restaurant on the property with the best coffee of Ecuador (my opinion at least ;-))
The breakfast changes daily and the staff are so nice. Michael was amazingly helpful and always so nice and Mercedez made my time at the hotel feel like home. I would recommend this hotel!
This is Ecuador and I did not expect more than what was delivered. The staff was helpful and tried their best to meet our requirements. The place was clean which is important.
The room, kitchen, pool are clean. it's near to the Pto. López malecon, we took a bus to move the hotel from the malecon in 15 min (aprox.) And we paid $0,75 per person.
