Kapaa is often overlooked for the northshore and Poipu.
Kapaa is often overlooked for the northshore and Poipu. It is actually the pulse of the island and you will run into more locals here. Restaurants are conveniently located and a wide variety at decent prices.

Kapaa is a great central location.
Kapaa is a great central location. The traffic is bad, but most people drive with the Aloha spirit and let you merge in front of them. I would stay there again but definitely avoid booking anything through Booking.com! Finding a reasonably-priced place to eat is a real challenge, not only in Kapaa but everywhere on the island. I spent almost $100 for two of us to eat at a Mexican restaurant.

We chose Kapaa because of it's proximity to the beach and to the Hindu Monastery which we visited multiple times. Turned out to be a great choice because it also seemed quieter compared to the beach crowds we saw in Poipu or Hanalei/Princeville. There's a grocery in walking distance to the hotel, small stores as well in a strip mall, great restaurants (the top rated Mexican restos are in Kapaa) all at fairly reasonable prices compared to what we saw in other parts of the island.

Was only there for 2 nights to attend a family wedding.
Was only there for 2 nights to attend a family wedding. Stayed there many years ago for a week. Handy location and if you're staying longer or with a family it is very comfortable with plenty of space for 4 people.
Decent location, clean, overall good enough as just a place to stay and sleep. Nice little lawn with games etc. convenient to the coconut marketplace and lava lava beach club. Not that full when we went so we didn’t have trouble parking. Giving us a plant at check in was a nice touch. Live entertainment by the beach/pool was also really lovey. Overall despite the negatives I would recommend this as a “budget” option in Kauai (budget in quotes because it’s still quite expensive for what you get… but that’s Hawaii for you)
The best thing about this hotel is the location. Its right on a beach and a walking trail. It's also within walking distance to town. The front desk staff were very friendly, and the banana bread was a plus. There is no breakfast, but there is banana bread many mornings. It looks nice from the outside. There are chickens and roosters wandering around the property, that was pretty cool. The pool was nice.
It is a very nice property with all the basic things that you would need during your stay. The property looks over the pool and the ocean. It is very quiet during the night. You can enjoy a glass on the balcony. It is very close to Coconut Marketplace where you can find different shops and restaurants. You would need a car for Kapaa town centre. The best restaurant in the area is Lava Lava Beach Club.
The hosts, Carol and Les, were wonderful. We couldn't find a cab or Uber to take us to the car rental facility (by the way, don't even think of not having a car in Kauai). They took the time to drive us there. They gave us a tour of the garden which is beautiful, made us aware of the local places to visits and eat and were generally very friendly and pleasant. You could not ask for better hosts.
We had a great stay at Kauai Coast Resort! Our departing flight got cancelled and they were able to accommodate us for an extra night. The staff was very helpful with everything. We had a great room with plenty of space for our family of four. Our boys loved the pool as well. The coconut marketplace was right across the street and had several souvenir shops, restaurants and an ABC store.
I liked the large room with high ceilings, the king bed, the little lanai and the ocean view. The service was very friendly with lots of Aloha. I loved the great price we got booking on Priceline. I also loved the convenience of the open parking lot, with parking included with our stay, along with the Longs Drugs right next door and the convenience of the location in Kapaa.
We had an oceanfront room, which I would highly recommend. There is no air conditioning so an oceanfront room is a good choice for that reason as well. I have been to Kauai 14 times and have stayed at Kaha Lani every time but one. The view is amazing. Centrally located. You do not hear the traffic (just the ocean and the roosters :)
Excellent location right on the beachfront. Lovely well kept tropical gardens in the hotel grounds. Plenty of parking. The room was spacious and clean. Hotel was right opposite a shopping village for dining options and a short walk to other shopping options. Fabulous restaurant, delicious food, friendly waiter.
I have stayed in your hotel many times back when I came to Kauai more regularly! I like how central it seems. Although I rarely go south, I like being able to if I want~easily. And it's proximity to Hanalei is great for me and my needs!
Cosiest room on our entire stay on the vacation. We had a full garden to ourselves which lit up at night and a pond with large fishes. This was the best and most genuine room on our entire stay in Hawaii.
Kitchen was good the pool area was okay with the hot tub. Room had a nice living room and the beds were okay but small. Staff was very friendly. Market with shopps and restaurants next to the hotel.
Did not have breakfast there. Location of Pono Kai was perfect for traveling to sites North and South Kauai....also convenient to shop and dine in neighborhood (Kapaa, Waipole, Lihue, Nawiliwili).
Location on the beach. Close to many nice restaurants. Kauai is very beautiful and I highly recommend a visit to the island. Islander Resort Oceanfront #149 is a good base for exploring the island.
Perfectly located in the lovely town of Kapaa, ideal for day-trips.
Hotel is just in front of the ocean and you can simply fall asleep with the sound of the waves...
Room is spacious, bathroom too.
Despite our room had a street view, the isolation seemed to be good, so no noise.
The room was spacious.
We were offered a banana bread by the madam who used to run the hotel, very kind of them.
