We were very happy with our choice the Hakuba Gateway Hotel. It represents very good value for money. The room was very clean and quiet. The beds especially were extremely comfy! Wifi was good also. The included breakfast was simple but plentiful and the staff were invariably helpful and friendly. The location of the hotel is really handy, just 5 minutes' walk to the closest chairlift, from which you can then access the whole Happo-One mountain. It is also 10 minutes' walk to the Happo Bus Terminal, from which you can easily travel to other resorts and go on tours. And what a wonderful surprise to discover the hidden gem of the forest Shinto temple just a few meters away from the hotel! For nightlife, it was great to be able to step out and have a choice of dining venues, from the yummy food truck fare just across the road to the upmarket The Grill (The Happo Hotel). In between those two, don't miss the quaint Ohyokkuri restaurant just round the corner, which has people queuing before opening time for traditional Japanese food! So, all in all, we highly recommend this hotel for price, quality and convenience.

I love the place with convenience of short drive to Happo-One, even within walking distance. The room was spacious and free breakfast was great! The free drying room and onsen made it even better. The location at outskirt of town made it quiet and not as busy as it gets in town center.

Good skiing with everything you need within close proximity.
Good skiing with everything you need within close proximity. However, if you are looking for an authentic Japanese exeprience, you are not going to find it in Hakuba. There are a lot of foreigners and many of the establishment workers are foreigners as well.

The buses to get to other ski fields and around Happo One...
The buses to get to other ski fields and around Happo One are somewhat confusing but it seems that there are more buses than on the timetables so that is a bonus. Many lifts start at 8am, so ideally one would have breakfast at 6:30 so one could get an early bus, but may be a challenge finding accommodation that does this.

It’s a ski and snow lover paradise. A small town with not so much city vibe, but best for snow or ski experience. It’s the idyllic charm that stands out for me. Everything u need for snow and ski experience is available there, for rent or to buy.

Snow was great, the town was very cute. Most of all, it wasn't that busy and lift have good space. Plenty of slops to choose from, and great restaurants, shops to go around after ski. Especially onsen was one of the great thing to add after the ski!

Hakuba is great and very welcoming.
Hakuba is great and very welcoming. The people and food are amazing. The skiing was great given the snow levels were lower than normal. The only thing to keep in mind is the bus service, while convenient can get crowded and does not run as much as it maybe should. A car would definitely be a great asset to have.
This property was in a good location as it is a short walk to Hakuba bus terminal where you catch all the ski shuttles and Echoland restaurants etc. Not ideal if carrying rental skis etc and you don’t have a car but we hired and left our skis at the resorts we skied at. The cost was fair and the accomodation reflected that. Breakfast was provided but it was the same every morning. I would recommend Mountside Jodel as a Japanese style budget accomodation and our family with two teenage kids enjoyed the experience of staying there.
The place is amazing - it's basically brand new. There is heaps of space, things are well thought out.
The beds are very comfortable, and the bathrooms were luxurious. Showers are amazing!
The place is a short walk to all the amenities in Echoland, as well as the shuttle buses to Hakuba ski resorts.
Taki as a host was incredible - he made sure he looked after us from day 1 to the end. Super friendly and helpful. He even sent our skis to the airport a few after we left so we could collect them when departing Tokyo.
Hakuba Landmark Happo Lodge was the BEST find. The staff are so lovely and helped us with everything - from directions to dinner reservations. The accommodation was very clean, with great facilities including a drying room (for snow gear) right at the front of the hotel. Heating in the bedrooms was fantastic, and the rooms were spacious. Breakfast was also incredible! Location is perfect to access Happo One - not even a 5 minute walk. Many restaurants around within walking distance. Also close to ski rentals.
Great location for skiers! The hotel is located between the two biggest ski resorts in the area, Happo-One and Hakuba 47/Goryu, which can be easily accessed via free public shuttles. Further, Happo-One is a 25-minute walk from the hotel. The room was spacious, cozy and clean. We enjoyed breakfast (they serve a Western-style one) and it was nice to have the shuttle service which picked us up and brought us back to the station.
Great value villa with everything you could want as a sole traveller. Spacious and warm with good ensuite facilities. The inclusion of a western-style bed in a more traditional Japanese villa was a nice touch and ensured I remained well rested throughout my week long stay.
Lodge Villa Happo is well located with Happo Bus Terminal, Lawson Convenience Store, Happo-one Ski Resort and Hakuba village all a short distance away.
amazing place- we were there in April and it snowed our first night!
we managed to get half a day on Happo when it opened (it shuts due to wind a lot) and then a day on 47 which was incredible.
Not a lot of restaurants open as it’s end of season, and a lot seemed to be booked out (small local Happo ones). We always managed to find somewhere though although would have preferred more Japanese options!
My partner and I stayed in the Japanese style room. It was very spacious and welcoming. It’s a great hotel to stay at if you’re snowboarding skiing as they have storage facilities. We loved the private onsen and booked it most nights. The view of the mountains from our window was particularly magical. The staff were very helpful and attentive. We were sad to leave. Thank you Hakuba Hotel Ougiya!
This hotel is bigger than a family-run hotel but feels Japanese hospitality . Big room with the Japanese decor and surprisingly comfy futon atop tatami mats. They have dry room underground floor. Medium size bathroom (onsen) in hotel. Located in the heart of Hakuba city near bus stop to many ski fields. "Woody" Equipment rental shop is only 20 steps away, and there's a discount available.
Our host Chris was the most helpful host we ever had. He assisted us if we had any problems, showed us the best onsens, helped us to get around Hakuba whatever the time, fixed us the necessary equipment to go backcountry skiing and so on... He even took us for a morning ride in the backcountry of Happo One.
Definitely THE most helpful host and person!!
It was conveniently located to Tokyu Hotel where we caught all our shuttles to the ski resorts, and also only a few minutes walk to F&B and gear rentals. The space we had was also great for our family of 4, allowing us to dine around a table and play games each night. Having a washing machine, cooking facilities and a strong heater was super handy.
Decent Japanese breakfast, quite a short window though, so make sure you get there on time. It's an old 80's/90's hotel, lots of wood panelling, but clean and convenient. Daily shuttles to and from the slopes, good ski drying room. No complaints. Nice in house onsen for hotel guests, wonderful way to end the day.
Our stay at Hotel Soyokaze was one of the best parts of our trip to Japan. Takao was very friendly and helpful. The private onsen each night after skiing was amazing and something we looked forward to every day. The location was also perfect to get the shuttle buses to the ski resorts and near a convience store.
They provide hotel pick up and drop off from/to hakuba station if given notice in advance which helped us lots. Their breakfast is especially egg Benedicts were very delicious. Room is spacious with strong heater. location of hotel is really convenient for skiers to get about to imori, 47, goryu and happo.
Cozy efficiently planned cottage perfect for our young family. Kids loved sleeping on futons in the attic. All the basic cooking tools and kitchenware available.
5-7 minute drive to Hakuba 47 & Goryu ski slopes, and restaurant area and supermarket. You will need a rental car for the stay to be practical.
Log cabin with 5 beds, fireplace (with plenty of firewood) and able to rent private onsen for reasonable price. Nearby Happo One, ~15 minute walk to resort downtown area or requires a shuttle ride from host or taxi to most places. Also can walk to the nearby hotel for shuttle to other ski resorts.
Amazing location, in the heart of Echoland near restaurants and rentals, free shuttles to ski resorts right outside. Convenient heated gear room for storing skis, board, and wet gear. Friendly staff. Was able to send equipment ahead via Yamato, very convenient
The location is good because we can take that shuttle bus from the parking parking lot number three to go to Goryu and Happo One resort. Walking to the bus terminal is not far. And we can also walk to Nakiyama lift station in 5 minutes. Onsen is also good.
Spacious, clean, comfortable space. Walking distance to Happo one lifts and gondola. Nice view of the Happo one ski runs. Walking distance to coffee shops and some restaurants.
Very friendly staff, clean rooms with all necessities, Onsen available at property and best of all - location! 5 min walk to Happo One Bus stop and ca 10 mins walk to Ski lift!
