FAQs about hotels in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Spirit of the North

A former Industrial Revolution hub, Newcastle has reinvented itself into a vibrant, forward-thinking city. Although no longer brewed here, Newcastle Brown Ale, or Newkie Brown, is synonymous with the city, so it’s no surprise that the nightlife is fantastic.

From the O2 Academy to the Sage Music Centre, the Newcastle music venues are among the best in England. The city also has a thriving arts scene, including The Biscuit Factory – Britain’s largest original art store.

Equally as good is the Newcastle shopping. The Central Arcade is in an attractive Victorian building, and across the River Tyne in Gateshead is the Metro Centre, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex. Indeed, these 2 cities have a healthy rivalry that plays out in sport, architecture and, sometimes, the bizarre.

Gateshead boasts the Angel of The North, a huge statue that is already its most recognised (and controversial) symbol. While in Newcastle the Vampire Rabbit sits above a door near St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Newcastle United Football Club has the most prestigious record, but Gateshead Stadium has seen many a star compete at its international athletics meets.

To the west of the city are some remains of Hadrian’s Wall and further north is Newcastle Airport. See Booking.com for a range of accommodation all over this happening city.

    Train station was very central.

Train station was very central. Newcastle also has a good bus service and we used it to go to the Beamish Museum. Unfortunately, we were in Newcastle Monday to Thursday and many of the places of interest were not open on the Monday or Tuesday which was quite disappointing. This may have been due to the fact it was March so still out of season. There was also no tourist information points or anywhere to get a street map of the city. Thankfully, the city streets are well sign posted or we would have been totally lost. There is lots to see and do in Newcastle including museums and shopping.

The shops around Eldon Square are good and varied. There are plenty of Cinemas and the nightlife is excellent. We usually eat at The French Quarter as their cooking is superb. There are also plenty of places outside Newcastle to visit. We went to Hexham, which is only 30 minutes away by train., to go to Hexham Abbey which well worth visiting. As we drive an EV were are interested in finding Charging Points and there are a number in Newcastle and Gateshead

An hotel with the adjoining Three Mile complex of restaurants and pub. Location near Metro Regent Centre and busy bus routes on the former Great North Road. Car not necessary - easy to get into and out of Newcastle and cover most of the regional attractions using buses, Metro and trains. Excellent welcome and freely offered advice. Comfortable rooms, great breakfast and many good restaurants nearby including the on-site Dough House. Ptice for accommodation far lower than city centre chain hotels.

The staff were all brilliant - so friendly and helpful. Other than the overlooked hairs in the bathroom, the room was nice and clean. The breakfast was excellent, with lots of choice. The bed was extremely comfortable, and probably one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept in. The location was ideal for my conference in Sage, and also great to enjoy the amazing views across the river, and the Quayside area. It was also a very short Uber to all the attractions in Newcastle city centre.

The staff were all super friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived through until checkout. We loved the decor and our room was extremely comfortable with an amazing view along the river. Gym was excellent for a hotel gym. We were lucky to get one of the few parking spots available, but the location of the hotel is excellent near lots of bars and restaurants and a fairly short (but steep) walk in to town.

A good alternative to a Premier Inn-style of hotel. I needed somewhere close to Newcastle Centre but with a private car park, as the trains were on strike. The bus link was from a stop right outside the hotel, and just a five-minute ride right to the City Centre, with a ten-minute frequency until mid-evening, then still a less-frequent service until late. So this hotel was ideal for my needs.

When I arrived there were three people in reception and all eager to help me. There are five floors to the hotel and a very fast lift is available. I did not have the hotel breakfast, although my friend did and he thought that the buffet breakfast was very good and not expensive. I was also impressed with the bedroom and the comfortable bed. There was a safe underneath the bed !
