its a wicked place as my daughter moved there with her partner and the grandchildren a few years ago the scenery is out of the world there is mountain bike tracks to use and lots of walking tracks to. you don't have to travel far from chesterfield itself to be in the countryside even travelling to chesterfield the scenery was breath taking its a must visit place

Brilliant location for visiting Chatsworth House and Bolsover Castle. Loved the market town vibe and the twisted spire on the church was fascinating. No climbs inside, til the spring and summer though. Some fascinating architecture to see and a brilliantly helpful Tourist Information Office where we got a couple of town walk maps.

Second only visit to the city of the "Twisted Spire" even though only for a brief stay over pleasant enough. Have to add the young lady who booked us in at the Spread Eagle was absolutely charming and a credit...will surely have no hesitation in re-booking...so it's a Ten! from Len :)

Interesting town, very nice old buildings, varied town centre architecture What attracted me was the proximity to Chatsworth and the Peak District. Quick drive to and from Baslow. Did not eat in Chesterfield but in the "Il Lupo" in Baslow (excellent Italian restaurant)

The outdoor market...what a joke, only a handful of stalls! Not worth a trip. No disrespect to those who work there but the place was empty!!! We spent more money on parking!!! Nice meat purchased at the indoor market and theres a well stocked cheese shop. The council need to update their website and let travellers know what to expect from the town centre. Can't think of any reason to return.

Have stayed previously and will stay again. We stayed in a slightly smaller room than normal but the facilities are just the same. All the meals were perfect. The four of us each had a different main course, as we always do, and everyone one of them was beautifully prepared. Would seriously recommend the chicken dinner. Breakfast was served in the “pub” and was similarly substantial with extra teas and coffee brought to us on request. Some hotels we frequent are not so generous. Will return in near future and looking forward to it.

Excellent location. Very friendly staff. Room was beautiful with everything you could possibly need. Bed and pillows were very comfortable and the shower room was exceptional. There was no cooked food options on the premises but a well stocked breakfast basket was provided and recommendations for places to eat in the evening. We went to the recommended Galleon steak house and can fully endorse the recommendation. We enjoyed our visit to the Spread Eagle and Chesterfield so much we're returning in a few days!!

The restaurants are very good, including the breakfast and bar, and there is very friendly staff at restaurants and reception. The gym is very small but good for all basic needs (It cannot occupy more than two simultaneously if you are in strength training).
