The hotel is situated in the very centre of Stone Town, you wouldn‘t wish for a better location. It is not directly on the beach but both walking to the beach and to numerous restaurants and cafes is just matter of couple of minutes. The hotel itself is in oriental style that gives it some special charm. The restaurant is on the roof which is not so high but the views make you feel like in the 18th century, which we found interesting. The staff is very friendly but they do not always address to the mentioned problems. One can feel a bit of lack of professionalism in the sphere but because they are all nice young people, it is not a big problem, one can always improve themselves:) The breakfast was good, not very different from the breakfast in other hotels on the island. As usual you get fruit and then can choose from salty and sweet options of breakfast. The room was very small but in fact there was enough space for our stuff and clothes, and you have everything you usually need in hotels, the bed was big and good but it takes most of the space in the room, so do not expect moving around much in the room because there is not much room:))
The bathroom was not small and I would call it comfortable what refers to the facilities, but we could not get hot water even though we turned the switch on and waited for a really long time, so we had to shower with cold water every day and though we told the staff about it, it was not fixed (either not possible or forgotten). The shower heads (both the big and the small ones) were very old and even rusty, the small hand shower was not functioning at all, so we had to use the big one and make our hair wet even when we did not want it. The shower switch remained in my hand the very first time I tried to turn it on, and I barely touched it.

Navigating Zanzibar City was surprisingly easy, with an array of transportation options available. The compact size of the city made it convenient to explore on foot, with many attractions within walking distance of each other. I would definitely suggest trying the local Swahili food for fresh fish and seafood.
For a visitor from South Africa, I found the price of food and drinks at restaurants relatively expensive.

Paradise Found: Zanzibar's Enchanting Beauty
Zanzibar is simply one of the best places on Earth. Its beaches are nothing short of breathtaking, with pristine sands so fine they feel like silk beneath your toes. The tranquil waters, gentle and calm, create a mesmerizing backdrop that captivates the soul. My love for this place knows no bounds; it's a sanctuary of unparalleled beauty and serenity.

It was lovely and we got to see the history of the slave trade (albeit sadly as it was a horrendous practice). The beaches are also very beautiful (Jambiani Beach was where we mostly went.) The spice farm tour and markets were lovely as we got all kinds of fresh spices.
However, it is very tourist-centric. Payment is in dollars everywhere and people are always trying to sell you something. Feels very commercialised.

Dirty, smelly, full of approaching ~beach boys, sellers and beggars. Much more aggressive than up north. Mostly came for a Nakupenda tour. Nice place but be aware that it’s crowded - by lots of tourists and then of course even the aggressive up in your face wanting to touch you sellers there too.
The more upscaled beach hotels and restaurants are nice though.

Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence.
Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence. It is worth taking the boat to prison island to learn more about the history and see the turtles. 2 days is sufficient. In the evening there is a night market with different food stalls.
I have booked this place only to have a chance to sleep for 5-6 hours. I came to Zanzibar at night around 4am so until I could go and check in to other hotel near the beach I decided to find something cheap and close to airport to get some sleep so I only stayed at this hotel for 5 hours so I cant say much. But the receptionist were nice and room is ok. If its just for 1 night to stay near airport because you need its fine, otherwise for longer stay in too far from city center and there is nothing around that much near hotel.
We absolutely loved our stay at Emerson on Hurumzi. All the staff are so professional and genuinely friendly, the hotel and the rooms are beautifully designed, and the location is great, right in the middle of the city.
We experienced the rooftop dinner on our first night and it was one of the highlights of our holiday. The food was excellent and the atmosphere among the guests, staff, and entertainers was unforgettable.
If you're planning to stay in Stone Town, then Emerson on Hurumzi is your only option!
Large hotel on the beach in Stone Town. You can walk EVERYWHERE! This is a large hotel with many different buildings. The hotel works like a well oiled machine. Staff is friendly and efficient. The GM is always available and goes out of his way to assist. Rooms are large with aircon, fans, fridge, satellite TV, coffee station, hairdryer. Large bathroom.
The swimming pool is the best and cool!! Breakfast is interesting. Pls note this is a dry hotel.
We were looking for a place in Stone Town fairly last-minute, and the Asmini Palace worked out perfectly. The hotel is very nice, and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast on the rooftop was quite enjoyable, with fresh fruit and good variety and portions. There are plenty of restaurants around, and finding good food outside the hotel was not too hard. This was a very good place for our first view of Stone Town.
Look no further in Stone Town, Spice Palace is the best, Perfect choice, everything was super fine, easily accessible from either ferry or airport. The hotel is located few meters from Forodhani Park.
Great and highly skilled staff, great breakfast at the Hotel with varieties of flesh to baked stuffs you can choose from.
I highly recommend this hotel while in Zanzibar city, THE BEST IN STONE TOWN
I was so lucky to trust my gut . I had no expectations but I was blown away by the service , design and staff at Shoki Shoki . the hotel is new furnished with Swahili design . there is free wifi and it’s 2 min walk to all places I wanted to check out in Stone town . the manager was amazing and also offers transport to airport at small fee.

The location is excelent, in front of the see and close to historical area and markets/shops.
The staff is very friendly.
There is a nice roof top to see the sunset.
Although the beach in front of the hotel is not very good to swim the hotel has a nice pool.
The tour in Stone Town and Prison Island/Nakupenda that the hotel organized were very good.
Beautiful hotel in Stone Town, perfectly located to visit the city center walking and to take a boat to Prison Island. The room was comfortable and clean with hot shower. Breakfast is also very nice and served on a beautiful terrace. The owner and the staff were so nice and friendly, really supportive. We would definitely come back!
The personnel was very helpful and available.
They helped us with everything, suggesting to us restaurants, places to visit in Stone Town and storing our luggage after checkout so we could walk around the city luggage-free until the time we had to travel to Nungwi.
To sum up, everything was very very very nice at Rumaisa hotel
Second time during our 4 days in zanzibar and we opted to rebook the hotel for our stay in stone town. .

The location of this hotel is perfect! It is a couple minutes from the Forodhani Market and gave us quick access to anything in Stone Town. The rooms were clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. Tours were easily booked through the hotel.
The hotel is located right on the beach with incredible views of the ocean. The staff are really helpful and polite and there’s a wide variety of choices at breakfast. The rooms are comfortable and there are a few swimming pools to refresh yourself in.
Stay away from the hotel. The bad far outweighs the good. It may have been nice in its glory days.
Breakfast was acceptable. Although the coffee is the worst in Zanzibar. The view from the rooftop is nice. Location in stone town is very central.
The staff made it home
Fauza husna the GM. Peter are always present to welcome you ans make u feel u r important

The owner was very nice to us and offered to help us find the main attractions in Stone Town. We were two girls and we felt really safe there. The hotel has the perfect location downtown!
The restaurant was very good. Also, staffs there were very friendly.
It's not far from the airport and Stone town. The beach is just front of the hotel, however not for swimming.
