The road (4 miles) to Bampton from Shap is extremely narrow with few passing places here and there and has to be driven with great care because you can meet buses, lorries and farm vehicles. Haweswater Hotel is miles from anywhere so a lot of driving...
Haweswater Hotel is miles from anywhere so a lot of driving needed , as for all the Lakes I presume. Perfect if you want peace and quiet, great views and wonderful walks. Bampton village itself is very small with few facilities.

The area is quiet, accessed by narrow lanes all worth exploring . The hamlet of Bampton sold the cheapest petroleum for miles. Locals were delightful. Be prepared to travel for 30-50 minutes to reach other key locations in The Lakes.

If like me you are not a seasoned walker take the lower walk...
If like me you are not a seasoned walker take the lower walk at the bottom of the reservoir which snakes around a peninsula and gives unbelievable views. Eat dinner at the Hotel during your stay the food and services are top quality. Weather permitting take time to have a drink on the seats at the front/side of the Hotel and just enjoy the peace.

The staff were all very friendly especially the ladies at breakfast. The quality of the food was very good. The breakfast catered well for all diets. The location of the hotel is fab and the area is wonderfully peaceful. We did appreciate the hotel moving us to a different room and not charging us for this. The bed was lovely and comfortable.
