    Beautiful town and friendly people.

Beautiful town and friendly people. We ate lunch three times (in four days!) at Fresher's Café and really enjoyed the food (obviously). They have their own delicious home-made quiches. I am sure this has to be the friendliest place to eat in the Lake District. Special mention to Michael, who was super helpful and humorous. On the day we did not eat there, we went next door! To the Great North Pie Co and I had the best steak and ale pie I have ever had. It was served on mashed potato, with mushy peas and onion gravy.

Perfect town to stay at if seeking a base in Lake District.

Perfect town to stay at if seeking a base in Lake District. We didn’t have a car and honestly had no need for one as it was easy to reach by train and had plenty of local busses - including hikes that start at centre of town. Enough dining options and overall “village” feeling without it being too busy or too quiet / isolated. Traveled as a couple so cannot comment on appropriateness if a family

Good location, an abundance of shops and restaurants and a choice of 3 cinemas all within easy walking distance. Interesting places to visit. It was our 5th visit to the area and we will certainly be back.

I have been coming here regularly for holidays since 1969 and it is one of the world's most beautiful places. You can walk out in any direction and have a great day in the extraordinary environment, with lakes and the Cumbrian fells all around, to challenge the fittest, with plenty of great pubs, cafes and restaurants to reward your exertions. You are guaranteed to not want your holiday here to come to an end.

Lots of good walks within easy reach of Ambleside.

Lots of good walks within easy reach of Ambleside. Easy to get to places without using your car because of the good transport connections, even out of season. I would recommend Luigi's Italian restaurant between 5.30 and 7 for their happy hour and the very friendly Jintana Thai restaurant.

Great location and great accommodation for the price. We booked last minute and chose Ambleside Central as there wasn't much available unless you wanted to pay an extortionate amount. To be honest we weren't expecting it to be very good but it was perfect for us. It's basic accommodation but very clean and comfortable. Parking was also included. We were really impressed and would definitely stay again.

Great place. Ambleside is a nice balance between quiet and things to do plus good bus connections. Our room was also great with cute design touches and fantastic water pressure. No breakfast, but they told us in advance and we didn't find it to be a problem because numerous cafes and bakeries were just down the street. Also a very nice view of town and the surrounding countryside from the window.

The facility was so dog friendly. Dog bed and biscuits were provided. My dog was also allowed to sit with us while we had breakfast. Breakfast was lovely with very good choices. Idea location for walks in and out of ambleside. The staff were very friendly and the parking was good value for money. Bed was very large and both myself and my partner found it to be very comfortable.

The hotel has been fully refurbished and remodelled since we last stayed here in 2019. It was good before but is great now. The decor and layout downstairs is excellent. Food was excellent quality and good value. Our room was a good size, very well equipped and quiet. The hotel has a great location by the lake and is a 20 minute walk from the centre of Ambleside.

It's a dog friendly hotel, with welcoming staff and I felt comfortable as a solo traveller. A great location for walking to Elterwater and next door to Chester's by the River. We were upgraded to a twin room and my dog got to have a sausage for breakfast. It was good to be able to have a meal in The Talbot Bar on the evening without leaving the hotel.

Beautiful location and amazing views across the lake. Room was clean and comfortable with a good shower. We had a dog friendly room which was perfect. 20 minute walk into Ambleside which we enjoyed. We eat at Lucy on a plate which was fantastic (need to book) and again was dog friendly. Staff were lovely would stay again.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the laundry room was totally free, the room was great and very clean and tidy. We had everything we needed and the location is great: right by the pier and walkable to central Ambleside. And of course there was a jacuzzi.
