About Adelaide

Including tips for the best time to visit Adelaide

Adelaide, South Australia's capital city, is a dynamic cosmopolitan with an exemplary mixture of old world charm and contemporary comforts. This beachside city has top-notch architecture, an excellent collection of wine and a distinct art scene that’s celebrated each year with pomp and show.

If you wish to learn about the history of Adelaide, then definitely try to stop at its museums. The South Australian Maritime Museum traces the naval history of the region and recounts the journey of navigators and seafarers. You'll also find exhibits that provide insights into marine life as well. Ayers House Museum is a fine model of Regency architecture in Adelaide. Previously home to the Ayers family, this building displays the opulence and luxury of 19th-century society. The South Australian Museum will give you a chance to delve deep into the cultures that were already in place before the Europeans came to this continent.

Adelaide is a pioneer in horticulture and its Botanic Garden is an outstanding example of that. Designed to accommodate various species of plants and trees, this garden space has peaceful walking trails, conservatories and glass houses. The Bicentennial Conservatory is located inside the Botanic Gardens and is home to a large number of tropical plants and flowers. Rare and endangered varieties from Northern Australia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia are on display here, including the Corpse Flower that smells like rotten flesh when in bloom.

I loved going to the market .

27 April 2024

I loved going to the market .I just wished they had small compact trolley carrying everything got my tomatoes and mangos squished .and maybe another lot of toilets..Also need more free parking areas it's ridiculous that you have to pay extra at certain hotels the 🏨 hotel we stayed at charged $25 everytime we got our car out and no lift to get up 2 get to Ur car .So it went from being reasonably priced to being a dam rip off raN they don't mention this factor on my booking app they wait until uur ready to to your room.

Adelaide is easy to get around on foot, bicycle, by car or public transport due to its small size. It has a good food culture and good local wines, although we went to a wine bar which sadly had all international white wines! I always enjoy Adelaide

So easy to get around town with free trams and the public transport system is great. Plenty to see, great laneway pop up bars, plenty of cocktails/gin/brewery’s etc and of course Haighs. Great shows at Her Majesty’s Theatre - Elvis was very good.

Drive to Fleurieu Peninsula was wonderful. So much to see and do, especially the d'Arenburg House and Dali exhibition, plus the steam train to Goolwa from Victor Harbour. Also super art gallery at Goolwa, and excellent Trust museum at Victor Harbour. Stay at Alding Eco Village was superb!!

Adelaide is a very well planned city with a very good road network which made it easy to get around. The city is very clean and in particular i did not see any graffiti which is very pleasing. Also the city has a very large area of parkland

Wow, Adelaide shone.

17 April 2024

Wow, Adelaide shone. It was FANTASTIC. Best food, so much choice, the Eberneezer night market and Adelaide Central Markets were great. Seeing the Pandas at the Adelaide Zoo were a dream come true. Swimming at Henley Beach and Port Willunga just stunning. Lunch at Star of Greece was perfection. It is the best restaurant with the best view (Definitely do not miss going here). McLaren Vale turned on the charm at Never Never Distillery and Co and Chalk Hill. Spectacular surroundings and views with live music on weekends.
