About Balneário Camboriú

Including tips for the best time to visit Balneário Camboriú

Some consider Balneário Camboriú, in Brazil's southern state of Santa Catarina, to be a miniature Rio de Janeiro. It's not hard to see the resemblance, what with its boardwalk-lined main beach, rollicking nightlife scene and even its own hilltop statue of Christ overlooking the city. Whether you're in the mood for a sunny coastal holiday or a trip filled with great food and sightseeing opportunities, you'll find it in Balneário Camboriú.

During the summer months, crowds in Balneário Camboriú swell to a breaking point as visitors flock to the area's golden beaches to escape the heat. Praia Balneário Camboriú, the city's main beach, isn't great for swimming, but you'll find plenty of revellers working on their tans and cyclists and strollers making good use of the boardwalk. You'll find cleaner water and a much more secluded atmosphere at Praia do Estaleiro and Praia dos Amores, which are both bordered by a lush forest.

Like Rio, Balneário Camboriú is surrounded by steep hills just waiting to be explored. An extensive cable car network whisks visitors up to various hill stations in Unipraias Park, where you can tackle trails and take in sweeping views of the city and surrounding rainforest. Another lofty landmark is the Cristo Luz Tourist Complex, situated at one of the highest points in the city. Here stands the Cristo Luz, a 33-metre-tall statue of Christ holding a brimmed hat that shines a beam of light over the city come nightfall.

Balneário Camboriú it's a wonderful place .

20 December 2023

Balneário Camboriú it's a wonderful place . A great beach , very nice the brasilian people, they will help you kindly, and friendly. The beach is very large about 5 miles . There is a free bus that goes throughout the beach. The buildings are impressively high. I hope to get back next summer.

Taxis do not cruise to pick up passengers .

22 November 2019

Taxis do not cruise to pick up passengers . If you take a trip to a tourist attraction with a taxi, make arrangement to have you picked up at a later hour. The sand on the beach, below the high water mark, is firm and easy to walk on. The footpath along Atlantic Avenue has a lot of benches and is shaded. Fancy restaurants are mainly on Atlantic avenue while Brazil avenue is mostly shopping. Small bistros are mainly found on the streets connecting Atlantic and Brazil avenues. I recommend Center street. Food and drinks were good and cheap and Caipirinhas, in various flavors, are available everywhere.

Is a very safe place.

9 November 2019

Is a very safe place. Has a lot of good shops. Good food, with a wide variety of prices for all budgets. Beaches are as most of the Balneario, really clean and care. The bad is that starting about 4 P.M. in the most of beaches the huge and close appartments cover the sun.... Is close of several beaches wich can be visited by bus, tours, etc.

Beautiful mix of big city with beach.

15 October 2019

Beautiful mix of big city with beach. I recommend driving to Praia Brava, the beach close to Balneário Camboriú, if you're looking to have more of a beachy experience. And then driving back to the incredible restaurants in the city!
