About Frankfurt/Main

Including tips for the best time to visit Frankfurt/Main

Frankfurt am Main is a lively metropolis in Germany that celebrates a fascinating mix of history and modernity as well as commerce and culture. Situated on the banks of River Main, the city has a striking skyline that you can admire while on a cruise or when visiting exhibitions along Frankfurt’s museum embankment, Museumsufer.

Doused in art and history, this city is home to several museums. On your visit to Frankfurt am Main, you can dive deeper into various aspects of the city’s past by exploring the interactive German Film Museum, the Naturmuseum Senckenberg dedicated to natural history and the Goethe House – birthplace of a renowned German writer.

The architecture of this German city ties contemporary designs together with historical reconstructions from the post-war era. On your Frankfurt trip, you’ll find the Commerzbank Tower standing tall in complete contrast to the half-timbered houses in the old town of Altstadt. The other highlights of the city include the Gothic-style Frankfurt Cathedral and the imposing concert hall of Alte Oper.

The city offers plenty of retail options ranging from international luxury stores to local designer boutiques. You can stroll along the pedestrian promenade of Zeil lined with high-street brands and a shopping centre. For fresh foods, wine and Frankfurt’s famous ‘green sauce’, the market hall of Kleinmarkthalle is worth a visit.

As a city Frankfurt is a nice city.

4 May 2024

As a city Frankfurt is a nice city. I was there for and exhibition called Techtextile and i guess 2 days was good to find the right companies on the Exhibition. I was driving around with my own car and i find the city nice and easy city for divers and car owners because there are many places in the city that you can park the car free of charge which is not the case in my own city of Amsterdam, in Amsterdam we i pay more than 600 euro per year to park my car but even with payment we can not find a place to park the car but in Frankfurt really was very easy to find places to park the car free of charge and people are mostly very friendly in Frankfurt when i was asking do i have to pay if i park my car people are friendly to give honest answer. I would visit Frankfurt again but i will stay in a different plays. To me getting around was easy because i was driving my own car. I use to eat in Messe Frankfurt at exhibition. Next time i will do my reservation far away form center because i travel always with car.

Frankfurt presents a pleasant cityscape, yet my airport...

26 April 2024

Frankfurt presents a pleasant cityscape, yet my airport experience left me with reservations. At Frankfurt Airport, there was a noticeable pattern of the police stopping non-EU passengers for document checks just after deplaning. Despite my frequent travels to Europe and holding a multi-entry Schengen visa, I was detained alongside others for an unnecessary 30-minute document verification. The ordeal extended to passport control, where a lengthy queue awaited us, made worse by a mere three counters being operational. The baggage claim area, situated in a less inviting lower ground space with a low ceiling and an unwelcome odor, further dampened the experience. After a lengthy wait, it turned out not all luggage had arrived, compounding the inconvenience.

Frankfurt is an exciting and cosmopolitan city.

22 April 2024

Frankfurt is an exciting and cosmopolitan city. There are many museums to visit and it is close to the Rhine. There are also many shopping and dining options. The MyZeil Mall on the Zeil (close to the Hauptwache Underground station) is well worth the visit for families who want to shop and dine at an affordable price.

Frankfurt is the only German city to make it into the top-10...

22 March 2024

Frankfurt is the only German city to make it into the top-10 of the World's Most Livable Cities ranking. And, indeed, it is a great place merging historic and modern architecture, excellent shopping, infrastructure and food combined with a global & metropolitan feel.
