Malaga Centro
In the city centre
Centuries of malagueño passion gives the town centre its heart. Relive Roman theatricality in the amphitheatre, and celebrate Málaga’s most famous son at Museo Picasso, all under the ramparts of the Alcazaba. Join locals on teeming terraces, sip sweet wine at Antigua Casa de Guardia and drink in the sunset from lofty Gibralfaro Castle.

Carretera de Cadiz
1.9 miles from city centre
Málaga’s roots as an industrial port are on show in Carretera de Cádiz. Now-dormant chimneys preside over the beachfront, where malagueños stroll, exercise and sip beer at beach bars. Packed with locals, this area is home to alternative art spaces La Cochera Cabaret and La Térmica. It’s also home to some of Málaga’s quietest beaches.

Puerto de la Torre
3.7 miles from city centre
A different kind of air blows through Puerto de la Torre. Perched on a hillside above Málaga’s city centre, its snaking mass of quiet residential streets envelop the slopes, where rows of low-rise houses are peppered with swimming pools. Beyond the town, the roads leading to Antequera and Granada roll northwards through the mountains.
Places to stay from £30 per night
Soho
0.4 miles from city centre
Graffiti: art or vandalism? A community project has allowed Soho to bloom into an urban art scape where images of crows, chameleons and mind-bending robots vie for wall space. Among the paint, you’ll find modern art at the Contemporary Art Museum (CAC) and shops that sell hipster staples like vintage clothes and organic food.
Places to stay from £18 per night
Málaga has reinvented itself in remarkable fashion. Previously, most holidays here entailed a direct transfer from Málaga airport to one of the surrounding resorts on the Costa del Sol – but not anymore.
Today, you can’t turn a corner without finding a museum or art gallery. Among the best are the Museo Picasso Málaga, which houses over 200 works by Spain’s most famous modern creator, and the Centre Pompidou Málaga, a contemporary art museum crowned by a giant, multi-coloured cube.
You can find the Pompidou and other modern attractions at Muelle Uno, an open-air shopping centre and collection of restaurants, next to the Port of Málaga. Do like the Malagueños do and treat yourself to a plate heaped with ‘boquerones’ (fried anchovies), or head to a back-street tapas bar in the centre and fill up on cheese, chorizo and Iberian ham. Then, walk it off with a stroll through the gardens of the Alcazaba – a crumbling Moorish fortress that has stood since the 11th century.
Málaga’s position between the mountains and the sea offers a pleasant microclimate which keeps beaches busy until well after the summer months. Malagueta Beach is the most popular, boasting top facilities and plenty of beachside restaurants.

A very beautiful tourist town, full of life, clean, with many places to walk, many terraces, many sights to visit. A city that offers good prices for both food and services Also, a city optimally located by other very interesting tourist attractions - Gibraltar, Caminito del Rey, Ronda - which can be easily reached
It is a very nice city.

It is a very nice city. The city town center is just amazing. A lot of activities for everyone : the youngest as the oldest. We enjoy the cycle tour we did with MAlaga tour bike. It is easy to get around the city by bus or on foot.
Fantastic weather in April.

Fantastic weather in April. Warm, but not too warm for sight-seeing. Walked up to the castillo de Gilbralfaro where you have fantastic views of the bullring and the port and we visited the Alcazaba. The ticket is valid for 48 hours, so can be done over 2 days. We went to Malagueta beach and the casa natal de Picasso. There were lots of restaurants to eat out in in the area around the Picasso museum and the plaza de la merced. It was easy to get around The bus from the airport takes you directly to the cathedral. The centre pompidou is also an interesting building and the harbour area is interesting to explore.

There is a lot to do in Malaga - recommend the Picasso museum, the Centro Pompidou, but not necessarily the Alegria flamenco show which is purely for tourists and found the room a bit oppressive, difficult to see the dancing. Restaurants: book ahead for El Meson de Cervantes, best tapas in town, and Pampa Grill - great Argentinian style cooking, top quality, fab cocktail and wine. Walking around the city itself is easy and interesting. The cathedral is also well worth a look, even if you're not into churches. Also visit the Alcazar.

Food was excellent wherever we dined - from moroccan to spanish, jamon to gelato, fine dining modern to traditional rustic, cuisine was exactly what we came for, and we weren't disappointed. Historic district is extremely walkable, clean and charming. Buy your tickets in advance if you plan to visit Picasso Museum. Centre Pompidou is a fabulous modern art museum by the marina, Malaga Catedral architecture is impressive, and Museum of Music were all just stumbled upon on our walkabouts - we got tickets at the door to all/no line. Latter was a fascinating walk-thru with historical instruments displayed and a few basic ones you can play - kids loved it
This is a great city.

This is a great city. It's vibrant, but has tranquil parts, has loads of things to do, whether you like art or clubs and fabulous bars and restaurants. The people are welcoming and helpful and the historic part of Malaga is beautiful. Most people land in Malaga airport and drive out to the beaches elsewhere. Wrong! No matter what age you are, the city has lots to offer. It's full of life and we really enjoy it.
