About Palma de Mallorca

Including tips for the best time to visit Palma de Mallorca

Mallorca, a Balearic island off Spain's Mediterranean coast, has long been known for its natural beauty – imagine clear blue waters, limestone mountains and sheltered golden beaches. Palma de Mallorca, the island's bayside capital, is urban by comparison, with waterfront hotels, galleries, restaurants and bars spread out between the city's medieval core and more modern districts.

Visits to Palma de Mallorca often begin in its old town. As you stroll the neighbourhood's labyrinthine streets, you'll encounter the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma and the 11th-century Arab Baths – a remnant of the city's Moorish past. The Royal Palace of La Almudaina, which was rebuilt during the 14th century, still hosts the Spanish royal family during the summer.

One of Palma's greatest assets is how accessible it is to the rest of the island. A short drive from the city centre, you'll find Bellver Castle – one of the only circular castles in Europe. Nearby, you'll also find the studio and home of Spanish artist Joan Miró.

No visit to Mallorca is complete without a trip to the beach, and Palma is close to some of the island's best. The six-kilometre-long Playa de Palma is the city's largest, featuring a bike path and plenty of water sports. Down the coast, Playa de Cala Pi sits sandwiched between tall cliffs and hosts a beach shack that serves snacks and drinks. Even beaches on the island's opposite coast, like Playa de Formentor and Cala Mesquida, are less than a two-hour drive away.

Lots of road works along the waterfront.

Lots of road works along the waterfront. Highly recommend the train trip to Soller and pot of Soller. I would say the best visit was our day trip to Valdermosser, neither were expensive quite reasonably priced excellent days out Unfortunately our trip collided with the King's visit a boat fair and a political rally so there was some road closures and restricted visiting around the cathedera but I'd do it all again

Palma Beautiful. I recommend. Cala Deja with its Restaurant. Town Fornalutz is unique, its Patrimonio Nacional de la Unesco. Playa del Muro The trip in wooden old train from Palma to Soller and then Tram from there to Puerto del Soler. Beautiful views. From Puerto del Soller if you go early. Take the ship to Sa Calobra. Beautiful Mallorca. Impressive color of the water in las calas. And impressive Moiuntains.

We love the historic old town and shops, bars and restaurants. The promenade next to the marina and porta Pi shopping centre. the Block house restaurant was excellent here. The went on the scenic train to Soller and then the tram to the coast which were blown away by. We could have stayed there much longer with lots of nice restaurants

We stayed in the old town . Easy walking distance to several other areas . Lovely restaurants close by . Took the train to Soller then the tram to Port de Soller . Both well worth the visit . Seller is very quaint , lots of small independent shops to browse & restaurants around the main square . The port area is beautiful

Palma is lovely for a short break, airport is 15 mins on the bus to the city centre. Where we stayed was about a 12 minute walk in all directions to every landmark and the harbour. Food, drink and transport is a good price. Would recommend Barca Samba boat trip. So many shops to browse and lots of lovely streets for pictures. Beautiful and will be back.

A small town dominated by the spectacular cathedral but lots of interesting things to do. Just walking around the streets you find something to look at , photograph .admire or to enter a shop. It was a wonderful experience in late February - warm but perfect for a city break. So many nice restaurants & the standard of English was amazing. High end shopping & art shops a plenty - between the restaurants & the shopping -your credit card will be hot. A delightful trip & much better than I expected.
