Bath City Centre
In the city centre
Bath’s birthplace. Back in Roman times, Bath went by the name of Aquae Sulis, and the town grew up around its thermal springs. Amazingly, the Roman baths are still intact; no trip to Bath is complete without a visit. After the Roman relaxation, pop along to Bath Abbey for an atmospheric evensong, followed by a slap-up meal in Sotto Sotto.

Artisan Quarter
0.3 miles from city centre
Bath’s artisan quarter does exactly what it says on the tin. The city’s most alternative area is infused with an artsy, Bohemian spirit – especially around Walcot Street. Head to Green Stationery for funky, eco-friendly paper and duck into Fine Grime for modern art. On Saturdays, check out the flea market, which does a roaring trade in miscellanea.

Upper Town
0.4 miles from city centre
Upper Town is the essence of novelist Jane Austen’s Bath. Its grand neoclassical façades once looked over the townsfolk that inspired many of her best-loved characters. Adopt a Mr Darcy swagger as you parade round Royal Crescent and The Circus, then retire to the splendid landscape of Royal Victoria Park for a picnic. Jolly good show!

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bath is brimming with history and rooted in ancient Roman culture. True to the city’s name, the Roman Baths are the highlight here, featuring some of the best preserved Roman ruins in the world, hot springs with emerald green water and a museum housing numerous artefacts. Since these historical baths are not open to the public for a swim, you can head to the nearby Thermae Bath Spa for a rejuvenating soak in thermal waters and stunning views from its rooftop pool.
Bath is one of the most-visited destinations in England, drawing fans of architecture and literature from all over. You can step into the romantic world of a famous English novelist at the Jane Austen Centre, and even indulge your British fancies by dressing up in Regency finery or having ‘Tea with Mr. Darcy’ at the museum’s themed tea room.
Boasting some of the finest examples of Georgian architecture, the City of Bath is soaked in hues of honey yellow, with most of its impressive structures crafted from golden Bath stone. You can join a free walking tour covering the city’s top sights, including the terraced townhouses that create the sweeping Royal Crescent and the three sets of houses that form the perfect circle of The Circus. Aside from Georgian marvels, Bath Abbey showcases intricate Gothic stonework and stained-glass windows, while the Palladian-style Pulteney Bridge is one of a handful of bridges in the world with shops on both sides.

Bath is a beautiful historical city.
20 April 2024
Bath is a beautiful historical city. We were very impressed with how clean the streets were and how well maintained the City is. Spoilt for choice for eateries and bars/pubs. A true gem. We didn’t use the public transport as it was so easy to get around walking but buses appeared to be regular and the transport links were good. Our only wish is that national rail offered quicker and better rail links from Bath to the North of the UK.

Bath is a beautiful city situated in a bowl, hence the natural springs. Walking around within the city is good, but if you want to venture out a little it becomes hilly. We love walking / running so any other form of transport is not something we go for. Architecture is stunning
The Roman Baths are a must visit.
17 April 2024
The Roman Baths are a must visit. There is a lot more to see than you think and it takes a good 1.5 hours to appreciate, book in advance and go early. Assembly Rooms very interesting with an extremely knowledgeable guide. Fantastic turkish delight coffee shop. Pulteney Bridge was beautiful and don't forget to watch the gulls playing on the weir! Sally Lunn's eatery was worth the wait. Didn't have time to see Crescent and Circle on this trip. Will visit again.

Difficult to suggest places to visit as I lived in Bath for 4 years during the 80s, so this wasn't a sightseeing visit. Ate at Ponte Vecchio, which was really good if a little pricey. Easy to get around Bath on foot, but leave the car at home if possible.

A delightful City, full of history, beautiful buildings and sights. It is easy to walk around and there are plenty of excellent cafes, restaurants and bars for the weary. Particularly worth a visit are the Baths and the Cathedral. The theatre too is in a historic building and has a good repertoire, giving a pleasant way to spend an evening. The surrounding countryside adds to the attraction of the place. Well worth a visit.

A very beautiful city with lots to do. The Roman Baths are well worth a visit, expensive at first glance but there is much more there that it looks and very interesting too. Sally Lunn's is the place for the Bath Bun if you can get in. Lemon curd may sound weird but it is delicious! Of course the architecture is amazing and it was interesting to see the honesty in the Abbey when it came to reporting on the influence of slavery.
