About Belfast

Including tips for the best time to visit Belfast

Few cities could claim to have undergone a transformation quite so spectacular as Belfast’s. The capital of Northern Ireland remains characterised by old shipyards and elegant Victorian houses, but its world-class museums, modern art galleries and cosy restaurants have given the city a new lease of life.

Points of interest include Titanic Belfast, an award-winning and state-of-the-art museum that tells the story of the world’s most famous ship, and the Botanic Gardens, which houses tropical plants and birds inside its birdcage-like glass dome. Make your way through music-filled ‘trad bars’, take a free tour of Belfast City Hall, or shop for fresh food and local art at St. George’s Market – the oldest and most popular market in the city.

But the appeal of Belfast doesn’t rest solely in its centre. The city is also a great base for visiting various filming locations from 'Game of Thrones'. Immerse yourself in the world of the hit TV series, with guided visits to ‘Winterfell Castle’, ‘the Haunted Forest’ and the ‘Iron Islands' on the country’s craggy northern coastline.

At night, head to the city’s Cathedral Quarter for the trendiest bars in town, and to experience the city's characteristic warm welcome.

Historical city. Museums and pubs and the main city centre are the main attractions. A lot of history to know about northern ireland wars. Amazing night life, never sen like this one before! Food is also cheap. Travel within the city in cabs is also very cheap.

First visit brilliant friendly city and people, plenty to see and do, loads of great bars and restaurants. Did the guided tour bus which was great to learn the history of the city from a local. Was impressed with the amount of singers in bars who were great entertainment, really enjoyed the weekend and would come back without a second thought.

A compact city centre. Lots of interesting history. Great diversity of food outlets. Taxi drivers absolute credit to the city. People never less than friendly and welcoming. Could have stayed longer and would totally recommend.

Visiting Titanic Belfast was a priority this trip, was thrilled to see and go on board SS Nomadic, walk the Titanic slipway and see Thompson Dry Dock---all highlights of my time in Belfast. Took city tourist bus tour and spent a lot of time just walking through the city---also saw Titanic memorial at City Hall--very moving to see all of the names who perished. Found some interesting restaurants to eat in especially Fratelli- Italian. Could have seen a lot more but will have to make another trip again to see Giants Causeway, etc. Lots of places within walking distance.

The hop on-hop off bus tour was excellent, It was the only activity we partook in as I had a medical appointment the morning I arrived in Belfast so didn't have much time for anything else, we also had lunch in Granny Annie's, which I would highly recommend to anybody visiting Belfast
