About London

Including tips for the best time to visit London

London's inherent uniqueness and mix of cultures have made it one of the most visited cities in the world. Its diverse bundle of boroughs are often like mini cities in their own right, with each one offering something different to the last.

London's iconic skyline is an eclectic combination of instantly recognisable landmarks, from the historic Tower of London to the ultra-modern skyscrapers of The Shard and 20 Fenchurch (better known as 'The Walkie-Talkie'). A walk through the ‘Square Mile’ immerses you in the original Roman settlement, with parts of the ancient defensive wall still visible. You'll also find some of the London's cosiest (and oldest) pubs around there, such as Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, a former haunt of Charles Dickens and Mark Twain.

For lovers of the arts, look no further than the world-class theatres of London's West End and the live music venues of Camden, Soho and Shoreditch. You'll also find endless galleries and museums dotted around, such as the free-to-visit British Museum, Natural History Museum and the National Gallery.

Amongst all the impressive architecture and endless points of interest, it's easy to forget how green London is. 47% of the city is made up of public green space, including 3,000 parks. The most popular spots include Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens and Green Park, but it's worth venturing out to places like Richmond where you can walk amongst roaming wild deer.

London is served by several major airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, City, Stansted, Luton and Southend. Travel is made easy by the extensive public transport links, as well as private coach services.

Loved the theatres and museums.

Loved the theatres and museums. We also loved walking and looking at the buildings and sculptures. Eating on a boat restaurant. Pub food was surprisingly good too! We are not clothes shoppers but there is plenty of choices.

Many of the art museums are free, which is great because you can just pass thru them if you don’t have all day to spend in one place and not feel like you are losing money. Unfortunately I only had an evening and a morning there before my connecting flight, but it seems like there is a lot to enjoy if you have the time

London is the perfect place to be.

19 April 2024

London is the perfect place to be. No doubt about it. Just something , since it was not possible for us to leave a review in booking: DO NOT chose "Central-zone1-Shoreditch-bricklane-LiverpoolStreet" referenced appartment! The landlord is just a dangerous, very dangerous guy who wil threaten your life if you complain about anything of this -despite pictures given- very old and rusty appartment with disgusting terrace full of dirt. It is located above a night club closing at 4 am. You'll enjoy sleepless nights! And this dishonest guy manages, god knows how, to eliminate all negative comments. DO NOT GO THERE. Last, Booking.com support was an absolute disaster. There seems to be no control made from them on the appartment owned by individuals in this city. use booking for hotels, but not for appartments, at least in this city.

Central London has so much to offer ranging from Hyde Park to Southbank to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the London zoo. The vibrant night life near Piccadilly circus, China town Oxford Street reflect how modern London is intertwined with the older infrastructure that has seen events dated several centuries ago. The food here is excellent and can cater for every budget, the tube makes traveling easy and quick. The weather was fantastic in late Jan 20204

What a wonderful city London is.

18 April 2024

What a wonderful city London is. There is so much to explore and not just in the West End, but also the leafy suburbs like Islington, Regents Canal, street art in Brick Lane, the differing architecture in the City of London. So much history to explore, lots to see and do for all ages. Free museums and art galleries, take an uber boat along the Thames. Walk along the Regents Canal.

Definitely visit again.

Definitely visit again. A lot to see and learn and relearn again. Although there is always someone dying to whisper with eyelids moving like an elevator. Overall friendly people, lovely place. Reduced litter on the streets.
