Like Dubrovnik, Split and other settlements along Croatia's Dalmatian coast, the medieval town of Trogir makes a film-worthy backdrop. Set on its own island just off the mainland, Trogir features a smattering of Venetian Renaissance and Romanesque buildings inside its 15th-century walls as well as a picturesque, buzzy promenade overlooking a yacht-filled Adriatic Sea. Whether you visit for the day or a week, this seaside destination charms in more ways than one.
Trogir's UNESCO-listed historic centre offers an atmospheric look at the city's rich cultural heritage. Peruse labyrinthine stone streets and squares and you'll eventually find yourself face-to-face with St Lawrence's Cathedral – a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture completed in 1250. After taking in the great door carved by Master Radovan, head inside to view priceless paintings in the Chapel of St John Orsini and climb the bell tower for views of the old town's rooftops. Just across from the cathedral sits Cipiko Palace, the former home of an affluent family during the 15th century. Here, you can take in more artistic works including Venetian Gothic windows and carved wooden statues.
Although you won't find a beach in central Trogir, you need only head just outside it to enjoy Dalmatia's famed waters. Ciovo Island, a bridge crossing away, features multiple beaches including Okrug Gornji, whose pebbled shore is lined with cafés, bars and even a floating adventure park. For an even bigger adventure, set aside a day to explore the surrounding archipelago, which includes Hvar island and the region's famous Blue Cave.

Trogir centre is a classic old Mediterranean town with well preserved architecture which in my view rises well above its modern touristification. It is also a big marine centre. In summer though it gets choked with traffic, come by bus (or ferry from Split in summer only) if you can. There is a frequent bus service from Split and Split airport every day.

Trogir is a small town with a couple of things to see in the very center - the old town. It's small enough that you can just walk around and see everything. We ate burgers at Big Mom's - they were good.

Trogir is a gorgeous historic town and we enjoyed every minute of our too brief stay. would seriously consider using it as a base for our next trip to Croatia. Lots of lovely restaurants and bars, and stunning historical buildings

Our stay this time was very short but we liked the atmosphere of the old town. Lots of tourists still but quieter in the evening. walking inside the old town is easy, it is so small that one cannot get totally lost, the sea always lurks at the end of some street. The main road outside the old town is now under repairs, that a litte bit cursed difficulties for walking - but a passing problem! Maybe the walking bridge - which was not in use now - will also be repaired.
I love Trogir, it was my second visit.

I love Trogir, it was my second visit. The city has all these little streets and historical buildings that are very cool to see. The town gets a bit crowded in the evenings, if you want to explore, it's better to do during the day time. There is a number of small museums but they aren't very informative or interesting, I planned two days for the sightseeing and museums but that was too much time. That said, it's a magical experience walking those cobblestone streets having the city's long history in mind. It's obviously not at the scale of Dubrovnik or Split but it's a lot less crowded.

Old town trogir is a beautiful place. It's quite small so you can easily walk through it in few hours. Bars and restaurants are abundant. We visited in October which I guess is not high season. The temperarture was perfect, 25 C during the day and still pleasent in the evening. A very relaxing stay. We visited the castle and the museum. Neither of them was very impressive. The castle should only be visited for the view. There is not much to see inside.
