The sun always seems to be shining in Eilat, a Red Sea resort town in southern-most Israel. In fact, the city clocks in 360 days of sunshine a year along with some of the nation's highest temperatures, making it a shoe-in for beach holidays away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
There's hardly any culture or historic landmarks to be found in Eilat. Instead, days are spent on the sand and in the Red Sea's calm waters, where pristine coral reefs make for stellar snorkelling and scuba diving conditions. If you'd rather keep your feet on land, the Coral World Underwater Observatory – Israel's largest public aquarium – features a replica of Eilat's reef as well as separate habitats for sharks, stingrays and turtles.
Like a true holiday town, Eilat's downtown is dominated by upscale hotels, shopping malls and a nightlife scene that caters to late-night revelers. The waterfront is also charming, though often busy with shoppers congregating around stores and booths selling souvenirs.
If you need a history fix, the Jordanian border is just a mile away from Eilat's hotel zone. A few hours north of that sits the famous ancient archaeological site of Petra, which features temples and tombs cut straight into sandstone cliffs.

Very nice beach promenade, good for strolling around after dinner. Plenty of very nice hotels and restaurants around. There are a lot of trees and flowers in the city, one of these is the terminal park which is very close to the mall. The underwater observatory is a must-visit. We were blown away by it. You can see the mountains of four different countries from its rooftop. Spending a whole day there is recommended. The botanical garden is also pretty good, can be covered in an hour and a half with lots of nice photo opportunities. There are snorkeling etc. water activities, and a bird-watching park as well, but we did not get to visit those due to time constraints.
Eilat is growing exponentially.

Eilat is growing exponentially. It is located by the Red Sea, with Petra and the Jordan mountains next door. The mountains go from beige to purple and pink at sunset, a stunning view. The sea is warm and full of fish. People like the water sports there, though I like to lie by the pool. The weather is warm most of the year.
Tacky place, full of shops and attractions in bad taste.

Tacky place, full of shops and attractions in bad taste. Despite no VAT prices are high and the assortment in the shops is provincial. For decent beaches go South of Coral Beach or preferably to Taba Heights in Egypt.
Fun fun fun!
28 February 2024
Fun fun fun! Israel's Las Vegas, without the gambling, but with coral reefs. Something for the whole family. The weather is (almost) always great (except in the heat of summer). Otherwise go indoors or into the water.

A great place for a couple, a big plus is that pets are allowed. The studio is small, but has everything you need, clean and comfortable. And a huge bonus is a gorgeous balcony with stunning views of the whole of Eilat, the sea and the mountains. You can fry meat on the balcony. The downside is the uncomfortable shower and poor drainage. But these are small things and do not spoil the overall impression. Excellent value for money. We will definitely come back! Thanks to the owner!

5 October 2023
Eilat was is and will be our 1st choice for a family summer vacation. There are great beaches to spend the day, snorkeling swimming or just hanging around. Eilat has great attractions, great restuarants and great shopping centers. Also, when it's not dead hot, you can base in Eilat to do great hikes in the lower parts of the Negev and Arava
